Excellent light for good illumination of work areas.
Have used this on a few jobs and have to say its invaluable really now. I have a micro fibre sunglass cover which I keep over the head/lens, to stop it getting scrtached etc in the tool box, maybe dewalt should produce a cover? If the lens gets ditched it would loose a lot of its wide output I believe so I am going to keep it covered. However I have used it under a floor pulling cables in, in a cuboard working on a consumer unit, loft obviously, I tend to switch it on half power, its enough to light the same area, but would make the battery last longer. It sits up quite securely on a 4 AH battery and haven't had it run out yet in a day. Update, quite a bit of time in the future. Have to say this is one of the most versatile and useful lights I have Ever had. The broad beam is useful in many situations where you need proper illumination. Used for resent house move when in winter, darkness soon falls. In a garage with no power finding stuff and best of all, caravanning in the middle of winter when arriving in the dark and need a good light to set up and fetch water etc. I really love this light and it is fast becoming the bit of kit I always want around to see in the dark, with a 4Ah battery it does just last forever. Am giving it max stars as haven't really found a disadvantage yet. Head does get warm after being on for an hour or so, but not as much so if it were filament lamp . I like the hook which pulls out the head, but haven't used it yet, has a great spread of light and can easily light a small room, but more useful for lighting your immediate area.

Bright light 💡
A lot of people are buying standing lights due to threats of power cuts this winter. So I decided to buy one too as I had a spare 5amp battery, plus I needed a bright light. It's a bit too heavy to carry to use as a torch, just walking the dog down the road at night to try it out it does illuminate well in front of you, but not as well for example as my smaller DCL040 which is lighter in weight and gives a more direct beam and is better suited to dog walking. Putting this DCL050 (type 2 - 1000 lumens/300 lumens) in a dark room it lights it up like daylight on both settings, absolutely fantastic. Stick it in the hallway and it lights up several rooms if the angle is right. I took it with me last night rescuing an injured badger from a dark garage that was filled with car spares and old oil and paint tins plus an open 5ft deep inspection pit underneath a classic car that couldn't be moved. This light was excellent at lighting up the entire garage, I moved it between shelves, it stood on tool boxes, on the bonnet of the car, hanging from the roof beams, plus under the car trying to find the elusive badger as it moved around. Plus the vet used it in the dark car park before we took the caged badger inside the clinic for treatment. Using a fully charged 5amp battery for around an hour in total on 1000 lumens, the battery dropped by one bar. Using a fully charged 2amp battery just walking around the garden at night and trying it out in different rooms, maybe 5 minutes or so in total, maybe a couple of minutes more, the battery dropped by one bar. Obviously the bigger battery is going to be better. I'd definitely use this on a wildlife rescue again, plus if the power cuts do happen I'm sorted for a very bright light which I'm sure would last the stated run time, that must be on 300 lumens, but this is bright enough! Only downside to it is you have to cycle through the switch. It's off -1000 lumens - 300 lumens - off. As for the weight, it wasn't bought to take the dogs out, it's a standing light so weight is not an issue. Even with the heavy 5amp battery it still wants to tip over if I tilt the head right back, but just gotta be careful where it's placed. It's expensive for what it is, £37.95, but it feels and looks well built, nice ratchet action on the head too. Would I buy it again? Definitely yes. Edited - I went to use it again four days later and the 5ah battery was showing 3 bars (do these batteries recover once taken indoors in the warm?) I then used it in the kitchen on 1000 lumens for around 45 minutes cleaning and fixing inside the extractor fan hood and the battery was still showing 3 bars afterwards. Just put it out in the garden at night up on top of a 6ft fence post and it illuminates the whole garden like daylight. Took it into an abandoned railway tunnel that's about half mile long and it shone the way through, the video and photos don't really show how bright it was in there with it on. I found it easier to walk with by clicking the head right back and using a 5amp battery, it kinda sits nice and balanced as I walked with my hand by my side, but I still prefer the smaller DCL040 for dog walking at night. Still very impressed with it.

Excellent
Typical DeWalt quality. lightweight but well made and solid. Arrives in a thick box, with manual and warranty leaflet. The torch has fittings for a belt hook/magnetic bit holder, but neither of these are supplied. A 1.7AH battery is sufficient to plant the torch on the ground where it remains nice and stable. I found the torch to be far more useful than I thought it would be, in fact I am considering getting a second. I may buy it it's own battery so I don't have to take up one that's being used on my tools. Anyway, it's great. Overpriced, for sure, but I think that's down to the design. It's quite an old design now and I think they could get away without a heatsink in the light which would make it a lot cheaper. It does get quite warm, by the way. Light is reasonable and enough for illuminating most close-up work. Several months in, I find myself using the lamp all the time. I can't imagine how I managed without one. Recommended.

Work light
The light is very bright like the two modes very bright and slightly dimmer build quality is very good had one of these for years without any issues works with all XR batteries and the value was good for a decent work light it does have a hook so you can hang this I am very happy with this product

Good. Not Great.
Like most overgrown boys (I'm now 70) I wanted the brightest, bestest spotlight I could get. Given that I have bought into the DeWalt platform, that would be the DCL043-XJ XR Spotlight of course. Then I read a few reviews and did some thinking. I soon realised that in reality, what I needed was a worklight, not a spotlight. So I bought this. And it is, in the real world, the right tool for the job. So what's not to like? Well, it's not ultra-bright, although it certainly isn't bad. But what has left me less than impressed is the build quality: the clicks between positions on the head rachet system are less than convincing. It's DeWalt, but it's not quite DeWalt build quality. Otherwise, the ergonomics are fine, the pistol grip is lovely, the chrome hook is over-engineered, and it seems to last forever on a 4 Amp Hour battery. Final thought: I suspect that you, like me, require a worklight more than you do a spotlight. If so, you could do a lot worse than this. But it's still not quite worth 5 stars.

If you're on the fence, just try it, you won't regret it if you have 18v batteries already
Never want to pay much for a torch due to there being many cheap alternatives. That being said, if you're on the fence and already have dewalt batteries, these are great units. Last for absolute hours and the hanging hook can be clipped to anything, the hinge is good but can go weak making the top bit ratchet when you move it occasionally. But that's from having about 10 of them at work getting covered in oil, water, brake cleaner and all sorts. Maybe one in 10 does the unintentional movement. Overall, very happy with it. There is another style with the big round glass on it, that's a good one too. Not tried the small one yet.

Excellent product
Very useful work light has a good spread and easily lasts all day with a 4ah. With the adjustable head angle, even past the vertical useful for directing the light up. Self supporting with my 4ah and upwards battery's This is now my work light of choice instead of a head torch.
