STARPLAYER The Theme Hits The Spot
When you go into a board game sometimes you play a game and it is good but the theme is just not there you don't feel like your doing or been put into the theme of the game. In starplayer you do feel like you are building a football team and the enjoyment comes in many ways from collecting players to winning cup matches. The object of the game is to get 11 players of the same colour a manager a stadium and win 5 cup matches followed by the penalty shootout. When building a team you can land on wildcard spaces outside the board you are allowed 3 of these cards which can be any colour you like to make up the colour your going for. In addition to all this referee cards can award or punish you the same with chairman cards if you land on those squares on the outside of the board. Collecting players who's pictures are on the board in the same colour also helps you own the player if someone lands on it or you land on it you get paid. Stadiums you may own only 1 but when you do get one they bring in 2 million everytime you pass them or 2 million if another player lands directly on it.So overall this game is giving you enough to do without it been to taxing. There isn't many downsides to the game I found the way the matches to be conducted unrealistic you roll 2 six sided dice and the highest score of the 2 players wins the match your getting ridiculous scores but that doesn't spoil the fun of the game. Also looking for players if they are not star players when your going for the first 6 bonus can be frustrating but once again a minor flaw. The game adds aspects from other great games like Monopoly and Ticket to Ride.Overall starplayer is a great family game with great replay ability.

Brilliant game. My 9 year son loves football and so loves playing the game where he has to buy his own team, manager and stadium. It takes a bit of time to sort out all the cards and what you have to do but otherwise a great game.

I bought this board game for my 8 year old grandson for Christmas who is football mad, he was eager to play as soon as possible. You don't have to be a keen footie fan to enjoy this game but I suppose the subject is football hence you would'nt be attracted to it. I didn't know what to expect until we sat as a family to play together and it wasn't until we started that I realised how clever it is. It feels inclusive and offers something for a variety of age groups, which makes it a perfect family game. It makes you think strategically and try to work out a game plan, offering the opportunity to use a diverse range of skill sets which could yield rewards & provides twists and turns to benefit and could ultimately be successful and win. This game keeps on giving and I have no doubt my grandson will keep on learning new skills each time he plays over a longer period of time for possibly years, this was just what I was looking for,... a perfect gift. I love it and more importantly he loves it too. EMC

Not A Fan
We were looking for a football game for my son for Christmas, and from the reviews decided that Starplayer seemed ideal. Now, in fairness, my son does like it, but I loathe it! I like football and I like games, but this neither captures a flavour of football in its mechanics nor constitutes a good game in my opinion. We have another card game called Football League which brilliantly simulates a single game with very real flavour. Sadly I believe that game is out of print. Starplayer has a mishmash of mechanics, so many decks of cards for different things, but the mechanics don't interrelate effectively. The players I buy don't have any effect in games for example. The worst indictment, seen again in the game I just played, was that we ended up going round and round the board just waiting for "matches" to randomly occur so we could complete the game. In the end I persuaded my son just to play the games rather than persist in aimlessly trekking around the board mailing for random matches. And those matches are randomly determined by dice. So in summary, my son does like it, but if I don't want to play it, it's playing time is going to be greatly reduced. Maybe my wife will like it....?

Good Game
Bought as a present for our football mad 8 year old grandson. Takes a little time to set up but he absolutely loves it and all the family gets involved. Definitely need to read through the rules first but a good game once you get started. Well made and should last a few years.

... the rules but when we had the whole family enjoyed the game
Took a while to get to grips with the rules but when we had the whole family enjoyed the game. I have seen a poor review stating that they were endlessly trekking round the board waiting to play matches but we concentrated on building our team and played matches along the way saving our match cards for when we were getting close to completing our team etc. Only real problem is that the boys want to play it again and again.
