This is made of aluminum. The letters might be steel, but this is not as sturdy as the more pricey full steel wallets. Not sure how this would withstand a fire, but why take the chance to save a few bucks? It also doesn’t stay closed and flops open unless you use the tamper-evident stickers or the Velcro band it comes with. I wouldn’t ever use the tamper seals though. What if you need to transfer wallets to a new cold wallet or hot wallet? You’d have to break the seal anyway. These should be kept in safes, so the seal really isn’t needed. Aside from all that, it just looks low quality and not sturdy compared to the steel ones. That being said it’s not worth returning. I might just use it to back up a hot wallet with low funds inside or something..

Bought this as my first foray into steel seed storage. Initially, I was quite pleased with the device and had a zen time of it putting the letters together to form my phrase. Having done a bit of research on these devices, I figured this one was a suitable concession compared to paying 3x the cost for the brand name versions of the same. My opinion of this one changed when I decided to buy 2 more of them (to shard the seed). These ones were sold out so I tried out SafePal's option on Amazon that was going for a few dollars less. Once those arrived, the flaws of this one were readily apparent. Right from the start, the packaging and weight of the SafePals made this generic one feel cheap by comparison. This one is lighter, flimsier, and larger than the SafePal; the hinge is so loose that they provide a velco strap to keep this one closed. When I tried to adjust this one to remove some of the phrases during sharding, they all just fell out due to the loose tolerances and I had to start over from the pile. Contrast that with SafePal's tight tolerances (almost too tight when closing), heavier metal and slightly more compact size, I'm glad these ones were sold out when I bought more. Might even go so far as to eventually replace this one outright. That said, while I'm mostly ho hum about this one, it will likely do the job it sets out to do; I'm not totally sold on its resilience to environmental harm (namely fire) as it is far lighter than the SafePals, but it'll be in a fire safe anyways and should be fine. It's adequate, but clearly an overseas knockoff and when there are others in this space for the same cost or less that have far better build quality, I'm not sure why you'd bother with this one. Withstood a Fire that’s for sure!

Looks nice, but will it withstand the advertised heat tolerance? It’s aluminum.
