Do these caps keep hair dry ??

Hi, the cap goes on really easily and has good coverage of the head. Very comfortable. It keeps my head dry whilst swimming front crawl and breast stroke. It does let water deep in though when I do back stroke. Hope this helps. :)

What is the protective layer made of and what does it do?

The outer layer coating of this swimming cap is made of polyurethane, also known as PU leather. This material itself is waterproof, more comfortable to wear than silicone and ensures a high level of sun protection.

I have a smallish head with short thin hair, will this hat be to big? Also is it waterproof / keep my hair dry?

Regards fitting, I can't comment, however mine is extremely comfortable and easy to get on & off. I have longish, thick hair, which the cap keeps 'dryish'. I have a silicon cap which keeps my hair dryer, but is very tight, quite uncomfortable & difficult to get on & off.

Is this suitable for ladies with long hair?

Being a short-haired bloke, I can't be certain. What I can say is that it is very stretchy and comfortable. Much more comfortable than the rubber hats that seem to scrape the small hairs off the back of your neck and are sometimes tight enough to give you a headache. Something I've never suffered from wearing AqtivAqua cap.
