Q: does it include the protractor?

Yes, but it is cheap plastic. I did not realize it came with one when I ordered the Crown-Pro so I ordered the Starret protractor. The Kreg one (at least to me is flimsy and difficult to use), The Starret one is great and is sturdy and easy to read all angles including spring angles.

Q: Has anyone tried to use this with larger crown (6-7”)? Or do you have another one you’d recommend?

If you butt it up against your miter saw fence sloping away from the fence you would not have enough room to lay something wider than 5" on it. but those 2 black stripes you see on the picture are extension pieces that slide out. You could place a spacer block, (something like a a 2x4) between it and a fence to make room for a taller crown.

Q: Can it be used on a vaulted ceiling

Apparently so, but it is not addressed in the instructions. There are u-tube videos showing how, e.g., https://youtu.be/w81H_HmEM3g. I did not use on a vaulted ceiling, but was quite pleased with the jig for my application.

Q: I see comments about the base moving, fingers being too close, etc. Is it possible to clamp the jig or wood to make it safer?

My miter saw has a clamp that can be placed on either side of the blade and screws forward to press the wood against the back fence, I used that to secure the jig
