ZAGG Rugged Book Keyboard Case for iPad Air 11" (M4)/ (M3)/ (M2)

I’ve purchased these multiple times for members of our sales team, and they’ve become my go-to case whenever we issue a new iPad. Our sales reps carry their iPads throughout the workday, so I wanted something that offered substantial protection while still being practical for actually working. The case feels sturdy, and the detachable keyboard makes the iPad much more functional for emails, notes and everyday work without having to carry a laptop. I also like that the keyboard can be removed when they just need the iPad. After buying these for multiple employees, I’ve been happy enough with how they’ve held up that I continue purchasing the same case instead of looking for something different. For anyone outfitting iPads for employees or just wanting more protection than a basic case provides, this has been a solid choice for us.

Update: going on nearly a week of daily use and have had no issues at all! Also, I found a way to avoid putting stress on the hinge and extending it’s life. If you hold the case upright with the hinge edge on a flat surface, and then pull down by the keyboard to lay it flat, this reduces the strain on the magnetic clips so the iPad won’t pop out. Putting a little bit of WD-40 on each metal hinge also helped A LOT. The small ‘globe’ button on the function key row doesn’t seem to do anything on the home-screen of iPadOS. I’m pretty sure it’s supposed to pull up a browser like Safari or Chrome. HOWEVER, I have found that it pulls up the emoji keyboard when typing!! So technically this keyboard does have a dedicated emoji button! I’ve only used it for a week at this point, but I love this thing! I purchased this fully knowing the issues with the hinge breaking after a short amount of time, but at $100, this is fine. I love how sturdy everything is, everything being fully encased in solid rubber. I LOVE the holder for the Apple Pencil being laid into the keyboard itself, although it does rattle around a little bit. Also, when the case is detached from the keyboard, technically you can magnetically attach the Apple Pencil to the case on the bottom side, just like with the 2nd gen Apple Pencil! The keyboard is great, although the keys are a little click-y for my taste. It’s so cool how there are 7 colors to choose from for the keyboard backlight, and 3 levels of brightness. The keyboard doesn’t have the ‘instant-on’ feature like others as it is Bluetooth based which naturally makes it turn on slower, however, I didn’t find the extra 1 to 2 seconds annoying. I have not found the typing experience to be laggy and have not lost connection (yet). I love how the keyboard charges via USB C! I was fully expecting micro USB so that was a happy addition. The only issue I have to complain about is the level of effort to put the iPad itself into the detachable case. There are two extended lips on the case where it attaches to the keyboard that the iPad has to clear for it to snap into, and I honestly thought I was going to crack the screen trying to snap it in. Additionally, the case is so tight around the iPad (not necessarily a bad thing), that a screen protector would probably get messed up when inserting (unless it was one of those softer film-like screen protectors). Also, the headphone jack and lightning cable port covers don’t lock into the case at all, so they will start to poke out of the case after many times pulling them out to charge/use headphones. This case hits 99% of all my requirements for the BEST iPad case ever. The only thing that would make it 100% perfect would be a hinge stand on the back of the detachable case like the Logitech Combo Touch case for watching media or taking notes without the keyboard attached. Also, if they made this exact keyboard case for the 12.9 inch iPad or any of the newer models, I would throw my money at Zagg.

Over a number of years, I have had several Zagg rugged books and have been very satisfied with them, even though if you Google for Best keyboards for iPads, they do not appear in the top products. Because I do a lot of work lying in bed with back problems I use my iPad a lot. I like the Zagg because the hinge can be positioned at any angle whatsoever and will stay put in that position. Several months ago, I acquired a new one, but had to return it because it seemed to have a mind of its own and would place periods in almost every sentence you typed, even though you had not hit the period key. The problem was so bad that I had to return the keyboard. Thinking that this was hopefully just an individual lemon keyboard, I returned it to Amazon and somewhat reluctantly ordered another one, hoping that the second one would be problem-free. Unfortunately, the second one arrived and proved to have the exact same problem… plus even more problems. Needless to say, I had to return this one also. I can only conclude, sorry to say, that this latest generation of Zagg rugged books is simply defective. My new one is a highly rated Logitech and works perfectly, but lacks the adjustable hinge of the Zagg. Hopefully, Zagg will get this problem corrected. After my Logitech eventually wears out I will try a Zagg one more time and hope for the best.

Love this keyboard case/keyboard! I like how durable the case is and that it be a mini laptop or comes apart and just the tablet; and how the keyboard is clicky and responsive it is! I love mechanical keyboards and for being this portable small size keyboard...it's a very pleasant typing experience!

Rugged and well made. Instant blue tooth pairing. Disappointed that it will not hold the iPad vertically. Otherwise, great product.

Have put this thing to extreme use in a high tempo environment for more than enough time; Is Excellent, still in good condition and fully functional. Satisfying keys too.

After looking over all the reviews I decided to purchase this product. It arrived on time and after unboxing the product the product looked to be of good quality. Fit my iPad nicely, connected via blue tooth quickly and worked perfectly, but this product doesn't have an indicator LED on the keyboard to let you know if its on or not and no indication to let you know the blue tooth is on or working... but after talking to customer service, he explained that the keyboard lights up and my contrast was all the way down. It also has a few different colors to choose from. Just after a week of owning this device I was out on my deck early one morning with my iPad, I went inside to get a cup of coffee and it started to rain heavily. By the time I got to my iPad (within a few seconds) the keyboard was soaking wet... I brought my iPad in and tilted it sideways into the sink to drain off the water and there was quite a bit of water in the keyboard. I tried to use keyboard and strange symbols came up. I removed the keyboard from my iPad and used a small shop-vac to suck out the remaining water and stored it in a large zip lock bag with rice and several silicon bags for several days to dry up the keyboard. After 5 days I connected the keyboard again with the iPad and turned it on and tried to connect to blue tooth. I took several tries to connect (error connection failed) and after several tries iPad finally connected to blue tooth. I tested out the keyboard again and some keys would not type and some keys typed funky symbols. I called customer service and explained what had happened and he said my Zagg has a 1 year warranty and they will replace it free of charge. He is shipping a brand new Zagg with a prepaid return label, he said that they will charge my CC until they get the damaged keyboard returned and will credit my CC. Awesome Customer Service....

Updated after 2.5 years: I am actually raising my rating from two stars to three stars because the space bar issue eventually resolved itself, but the battery only recharged for about 2 years and then it completely stopped holding a charge. I use great care when recharging batteries. For the price, I feel like it was a fair enough value to get 2 years out of this - a dollar per week, really - but for the environment, that’s terrible. It feels like a careless flaw or planned obsolescence. Original review: I read the reviews thoroughly before buying this and decided it was worth taking a chance to get a brand-name product. It's pretty rugged, and I feel like my ipad is much safer in this than in the previous case I had, but I've only had it a week, and the space bar is stuck in the down position. I have NOT used it near food or any other substance that might have clogged it. I'm so disappointed. As a side, I have found that opening it carefully mitigates the feeling that it's about to break, and after a week, the case opens much more smoothly. But that's not enough to make an malfunctioning space bar okay.

This is my second one - the first lasted close on 5 years to the day! I use it daily and tend to be a bit rough with stuff and this is brilliant- only reason for one less star is new design is a bit different and I prefer the old one - the keyboard is slightly different so I’m still adjusting. Highly recommend this product.

I'm in love <3 This is THE best case I've ever had. Funny story: I had a Zagg ruggedfolio for my iPad Air 1. It lasted beautifully for about 4 years until I spilled water all over the keys like a dummy. After that I could not afford a new one, so I bought some no-name keyboard case to use. Within 6 months, 3 of the keys had rubbed off, it was skipping numbers and letters and was just generally horrible. So when I got sick of that crap I dished out for a new Rugged Book. Needless to say, I LOVE this case with a passion!!! So durable, heavy but worth it for the amount this keyboard does, and all-around awesome! I like it so much I told my uncle about it and he got one for his iPad too. Love <3 <3 <3
