Cultural Geography
Good book for teaching cultural geography to children. This book depicts North Africa and explains why women cover up. It does so with beauty and without getting into religious doctrines.

I was in Mauritania for a year with the Peace Corps (we were evacuated after a year and I moved to the Gambia) and this kid's book brought back so many memories. Beautifully illustrated.

Beautiful
This gorgeous book will make an impression on anyone who reads it. The reader will go on an adventure of discovery following a little girl searching the significance of 'malafa' (hijab).๐She learns that the malafa is not worn for beauty, tradition, or mystery but it is practiced by those with faith. The form of language used to describe the scenery in this book is outstanding. The colourful illustrations really makes this book memorable. This book highlights a religious trait that is set in the country of Mauritania so there is a bit of cultural influence in the story. In the back, a glossary and an author's note is included to explain the inspiration behind it.

Like in south Morocco
I bought this so my daughter could have a story in a environnement similar to her grandmother's one, on the south of Morocco. No regrets at all! The story is still a bit complicated for her but the pictures speak for themselves for now. Very good quality too.
