Cheap key lock , not security lock as in pictures
The item does not have the security lock as shown in the pictures . It’s a simple cheap key lock which could be easily opened with a screwdriver . Am pleased to say Amazon are refunding me , thank you Amazon 5 star return service

Sturdy engine lock. Works well. Easy to use.
Seems sturdy enough. Easy to use. If a thief really wants your engine, he will take it. But it might just be enough to put off an opportunist thief.

What a relief
Engine stolen last year so bought this to fit my 'new' engine and give some peace of mind. Fits my mercury 10HP perfectly. Phew

Needed for insurance
Untested but a good deterrent to thieves

Rusts quickly, making it difficult to open
The lock functions as described, however, the paint is one layer of thin black paint over a non-stainless steel metal body, such that within two months in salt water environment ( dinghy/ outboard on sea) the edges begin to rust which makes the opening and closing sticky and eventually almost impossible, so that the key broke off in the lock when trying to open it. I strongly suggest to get a steel maker to make you something similar in stainless steel, and do NOT buy this product, it is not fit for marine purpose in salt water environment.
