I set these boots free. They never came back.
A few weeks ago I bought a pair of Irish Setter 83605 (Ashby) boots, which I kinda sorta love. But not exactly. At first they felt a little big. I normally wear a 12.5, except that nobody actually makes shoes in 12.5, so I never really wear it. Instead I buy either a 12 or 13, and they are inevitably either a bit large or a bit small. Sometimes a hair, and sometimes several hairs. But either way, they never fit right.Except for running shoes, which always fit when I buy 13. But I'm a gentleman, and as such I don't wear running shoes while I'm running errands. That's insane. So I wore the boots around the house for a week, and I thought that maybe, just maybe, these would be the ones. I loved the look. They were reminiscent of the Timberlands I owned as a kid, except way more classy and perhaps even more functional.I loved them. But I wasn't convinced. So I ordered another pair of boots from a different brand (I won't mention names here; let's keep things civilized) and those boots did not fit right either. So now I was faced with an impossible decision: keep the boots that don't fit, or the boots that don't fit.I asked for opinions. My wife liked the boots from Brand X. My friend liked the boots from Brand X.But I wasn't sold. In fact, neither was my sister. We were the Rebel Alliance in this story. And like Luke and Leia, we knew that we were right. After buying and returning two more pairs of boots, I decided to keep my Ashby boots. I wore them all around the house, trying them on once I got home from work, taking them off once I had to go outside, and occasionally wearing them in our no-shoes basement because I knew how clean they were. But then I decided to take them outside, because I knew that they were the right boots for me. I held them up towards the light, kissed them, and said "let's go do important stuff."The story turns tragic at this point. If you cry easily, please stop reading here. The boots started to break in. They started coming into their own. They started to take life. And that was the moment they stopped belonging to me.They just don't fit me now. They were slightly too big to begin with, but after adding an additional insole, heavy socks, and new laces, everything seemed to be working between us.And once they stepped out of the house, they never came back. They are still in my closet, mind you. I know where they are. But in spite of how close we are, I have never felt further away.I wish these fit me. I want to love them. Well, honestly, I want to return them for size 12. But I wore them outside, and now I am stuck with boots that don't fit.I tried. I really did. But the boots just don't love me like I love them.

Comfortable after a two week or so break in period
Pretty comfortable. A bit stiff at first. After about a two week break in they softened up a bit and we’re a lot more comfortable. Not a fan of the laces that come in them, they seem like they’re a little brittle and not quite long enough. Overall they’re pretty good boots.

Comfortable work boots
Really like these boots. Lasted over a year so far. The balls of my feet were hurting everyday from being on concrete, but wearing these with some dr. Scholls “men over 200lbs” insoles, it really helped. and I’m 6’4”, 200 lbs. I’ve been trying to order another pair, and I’ve had bad luck, as two pairs in a row had damage to them. I’m hoping the third pair will be the charm. Definitely an item that would be preferable to buy in person, just to make sure all the stitching is good. Also, every couple hundred miles or so, one of the souls will start squeaking with every step. I don’t know if it opens up a small air pocket in the soul? It can be irritating, but with more wear it goes away.

If you only read one review...read this one!
Let me tell you something... if your on here reading reviews. If you only read one reveiw, read this one. Thee best boot you will ever wear and and for the price. I've bought diehards, timberland pros, catarpillars, thorogoods, Wolverines. And with that said... The only reason I am not not happy these boots is that they where not my first pair I had originally bought years ago! I bought but these resentl and they are the only pair that I will happily say "I will only buy these Irish settler ashby boots and will only buy these irish settler boots from now on." For work. I I'm on my feet for at least 8hrs a day usually 6 days a week. They are light. Good looking. Feel great. What else could I say... do not hesitate!
