These cartridges look different than the Brother ones - they look like they’d be too small- but they DO fit! I got a misread error the first time I installed but after re-inserting it my printer found it.

I purchased these cartridges some time ago, but only recently got around to using them. Low printing volume meant that the original Brother VAL (Value) cartridges lasted longer than I expected. Per the pics, my device has printed 122 pages in its lifetime.First up, I thought I'd ordered and would receive the "XL" cartridges, which IIRC means the color ones are just standard (750 page) cartridges and the Black cartridge is the larger (3000 page) cartridge. The pics show that these cartridges are basically the same as the factory-supplied Brother VAL cartridges that I replaced.The second, perhaps more serious issue is that the printer and cartridges are not playing well together. The pics show that the color cartridges are almost full, and yet the printer maintains that they're empty = no ink left. Only the new Black cartridge (replaced yesterday) is still showing that there's ink in it - and after printing only two pages, the printer seems destined to replicate the same accelerated ink usage as the color cartridges that were replaced a few weeks ago.Looking at the Brother cartridges it's not immediately clear how the printer measures ink usage and the remaining ink in the cartridge. The chip might be part of the solution, but I was also expecting a "window" through which the printer would light and test an LED or something like that. If that was the case, it should be a simple matter of covering the "window" with electrical tape etc. to fool the printer. However, I don't find such a window on the old or new cartridges.As it is, I don't see how I can use these practically brand-new cartridges if the printer thinks they're empty, and I also fear that the Black cartridge will also be prematurely declared empty of ink in the next few days.Was this purchase a total waste of money?

Work well in Canon printer - only use for letters etc so better value than OEM inks for my application
