Does this require filters? If not - doesn't that allow for the cold virus to potentially spread to the parent if it hasn't already?

Yes, it comes with 4 in the pack (little blue sponges) and you can buy extra. I've been using it for probably a month or two now and personally haven't changed a filter yet, you can easily wash them .

What age is this suitable for? Is it too big for a newborn nose?

I used it on my two week old baby and it worked brilliantly. First I put some saline drops in her nostrils and after a couple of minutes used the aspirator and it completely unblocked her little nose. She wasn't very happy during the process but could breathe easily straight after! Well worth it.

Can the filters be washed too or do you have to always change them?

I normally wash them and leave it to dry and reuse it... never had a problem

Does this require nasal drops first?

Depending on how blocked the nose is, if it’s very dry put some nose drops and leave for a few minutes and then use Nosefrida. It really works
