Hi I can't work out from the item description... Do I need to buy speakers or will it play my vinyls without adding an external speaker?

There are no speakers in it or with it, if you want any sound you have to have external speakers.

Can you swap out the power source for an Australian plug?

Yes. Mine came with adapters for different plugs.
