A nice looking light with good illumination
I bought this to replace a faulty stainless steel up and down light. It's subjective but I think this one looks much better. The light is from a known brand and is very well made. It has a PIR detector so that it only comes on when the ambient light level is low, and it detects movement. It requires a large Edison screw bulb (not supplied) with a maximum wattage of 60 W. I've used a 9 watt LED bulb, which gives plenty of illumination and is a 60 W equivalent. Inserting the bulb simply requires unscrewing two screws to remove the cover. The light fitting is mainly made of die-cast aluminium, painted white, with a clear plastic lens. The part that screws to the wall, the back plate, is plastic with a rubber gasket. This contains the wiring, there's not a lot of room, but more than in other light fittings I've had.The electrical connection is made to an electrical terminal strip and is easy to wire up with clearly marked connections (although the neutral is marked with an 'X'). The instructions are relatively clear but are in the form of pictures rather than words. To fit it I found it was easier to disconnect the existing wiring from the terminal block in order to remove the lamp body (make a note of where the 3 wires are connected to). This is then easier to position where to fix it to the wall without the lamp body hanging down. Also, I taped the back of the two bolts so that they don't fall out.Important: Ensure that the power is turned off. There are no fixing screws, but I had two suitable wall plugs and screws. There are two recessed holes in the back plate, and these need to be drilled for the fixing screws. It is important to ensure that the back plate is truly vertical because there is no adjustment once screwed to the wall. After reconnecting the internal wiring and wiring up to the mains, I tested the light to ensure it came on. I then mounted the light onto the backplate, being careful not to disturb the gasket, which is held by two domed nuts with washers. These are very small and it is a little tricky to screw them on without dropping them, particularly if on a ladder. However, once mounted, the light fitting is secure.I was initially disappointed that the light no longer came on after the fitting was mounted, but decided to leave it until the evening, when it was dark, before checking the wiring. When I tested it then the light came on and everything worked perfectly. There are two adjustments on the side of the detector, one to set at what ambient light level the light will come on at, and I presume the other is to set the period of time that the light stays on for. I may have to fine-tune these settings but the current ones seem to be fine.I'm very pleased with the light, it is superior to the one it replaced and gives out more than adequate illumination. The current Amazon price is very competitive compared to elsewhere.

Very smart!
Really nice lights. The sensor works well to come on and off as needed. Good replacement for the old type. Look very nice!

Good quality light but not able to adjust motion sensor
This is a good quality product, very well made, and looks the part. In all good value for money. It is easy to install and the instructions are good enough even for the a novice DIYer to do themselves.I did look though the questions and reviews before buying, but not deep enough. This light has adjustable sensors for Light/dark - in that when the sensor is active and will light, so you can easily set it to be a dusk to dawn security light. It also has a sensor for the time the ight stats on once he motion sensor is triggered. However it does not have a motion sensor sensitivity adjustment. One question said that they had set it to about 4 metres, however this is not possible. If you live on a busy street this light will come on often as the motion detection is very good. Mine is always coming on. I am slightly disappointed with this as this is not what I wanted. It is a good deterrent through for any would-be burglar. I then went through the reviews and questions again and see that there are more posts that confirm this fact.

Excellent PIR exterior lights
More expensive than some exterior lights, but this one is built to last. Very well made and simple to install.Doesn’t come with a bulb, but thats the only downside side. PIR and ambient light sensitivity can be tuned so that it comes on when your preferred level of darkness and proximity are reached. Well worth the extra money.

Well made and works well. Looks great
I really like these outdoor wall lights and specifically bought Philips as I trust the brand.Installation is a breeze and one thing that worth noting is that they have built in support for pass through which is great. It means I have a motion sensor one and connected to the same switch an non-motion sensor one. Triggering the sensor then switches both lights on which is superb.Build quality is good and mostly metal and to be honest having looked around these came in cheaper than ones at a certain DIY chain and in my opinion are better. They take E27 bulbs and I bought some Philips 1000lm LED bulbs which work really well. What would also look nice in these are the filament style led bulbs. You can control the sensitivity of the air and the duration of the light easily.Overall a superb and reasonably priced outdoor light which looks great.

Nice to look at, not sure how long they will last
These are not bad lamps, but I am not wholly convinced that they offer good value for money. I purchased them at £23.00 each and they have now increased to £24.56 on 19th October 2019. It goes with our question that they will be simple to fit, providing that you have wiring in place, which we did and therefore, apart from drilling two new holes, wiring and fitting was relatively simple. What I have noticed is the quality of the materials used to construct these lamps has fallen, with the alloy becoming lighter and thinner and the glass replaced by perspex; which will cloud over after a couple of years. I really like Philips products, but this item apart from carrying the Philips name does not follow their tradition of Philips quality. The description states that they have undergone rigorous tests to prevent ingress of water. Well no water has got into the two lamps we have installed, but the seals are poor, but perhaps more importantly, the real issue with water and these types of lamps is that you ensure that you use sealant after installation around the edge where the lamp base meets the wall - this is where water tends to enter and affect the connection.I can confirm that you can use standard bulbs or as we have done, LED bulbs, both of which work well.In terms of adjusting the sensitivity of the lamps, this is fairly standard across all of these lights, there is a screw to adjust the sensitivity for movement and one for the length of time that the light stays on. Both controls adjust easily and work well.Overall I have awarded this item 3 stars. They are not bad items, however, I do not feel that the build quality warrants the price, indeed I have reduced the rating from 4 stars simply due to the fact that they have risen in price over 6% in the 5 weeks since I purchased them.

Sturdy lamp with a good quality motion sensor - would recommend.
This lamp has an aluminium frame with clear plastic sides and a plastic wall mount. Don't let the plastic put you off, the lamp is well constructed and sturdy. The motion sensor works well and is not triggered by wind or moving leaves. (I've experienced so many problems with security lights over the years where the sensor stops working or is over sensitive.) Fitting is straight forward, though it can be fiddly trying to hold the lamp body whilst fitting the cable to the terminals on the wall mount. There are 2 adjustments either side of the motion sensor - day/night setting and a time control for how long the lamp stays on.Just to be clear there is no adjustment of the motion sensor sensitivity. I did find that cars on the road (about 12 metres away) triggered the lamp so have resorted to putting white electrical tape over the top half of the sensor - problem solved.I would have given the lamp 5 stars if there had been a means of adjusting the sensitivity and perhaps a male/female wiring connector for plugging the lamp body into the wall mount (making fitting easier). Overall I'm very pleased with my purchase from Big Red Toolbox - at about £25 it has been a good purchase.Update - After nearly five years the wall light is still working without needing any attention. The only slight issue has been the loss of a small area of paint/finish from the frame near the base, exposing the aluminium.
