The perfect companion for my D800
I originally had the Nikon 24-70mm f/2.8 and in the beginning I loved the lens with its large f/2.8 aperture, quick focusing and sharp image results; if only it had VR; but eventually the honeymoon period came to an end when one day the zoom became gritty and unsmooth in operation and started jamming up. I found out that this was a common issue with the 24-70mm lens and sent it off to Nikon for repair. After the repair the lens was never as good as it was originally, especially with regard to edge sharpness and even in the good times using this the lens I found the maximum zoom of 70mm was a bit on the short side and wished for more reach. In the end I sold my 24-70mm f/2.8 and decided to try the Nikon 24-120mm f/4 VRII lens and I’m glad that I did:- Although the 24-120mm only has a maximum aperture of f/4; VRII more than makes up for it; especially at the telephoto end when the light gets low; enabling one to keep the ISO setting down for maximum quality images. The extra zoom reach to 120mm is really welcome and is great for portraits; it makes this lens the ideal lens for walkabouts; on holiday, weddings etc. and professionals do use this lens. Then there’s the price, one can buy two or three of these for the cost of the new 24-70mm VR lens; which makes the 24-120mm VRII lens excellent value for money. What about the performance? On my copy; autofocus is very good and accurate; sharpness is also very good at all zoom settings and I found that the same is true for edge sharpness at all zoom settings (only slight fall off). As far as geometry distortion and vignetting are concern it’s not a issue if use the camera’s distortion and vignetting control and if one is working with RAW images ensure that you have selected the correct lens profile in Lightroom, or Photoshop. Compared to the 24-70mm f/2.8 when it was at its best, the 24-70mm f/2.8 was marginally better in sharpness and autofocus was a bit faster, but then I’m almost splitting hairs here and one is paying a whole lot more for it. I wish I had bought the 24-120mm f/4 VRII first, instead of the 24-70mm f/2.8; it would have saved me a lot of money. This lens for me doesn't disappoint and if you do buy this lens test it thoroughly as soon as you receive it to make that you have a good copy. For me, the Nikon 24-120mm f/4 VRII is the prefect companion for my D800.

perfect every day lens
this lens was renewed, but you would think it was brand-new. I’ve had no problems with it at all and it’s an excellent lens with a great range all at F1.4. Which saves a stack of money on other lenses! Like the F1.4 80 mm! It is now my main lens on my Nikon D850 FX. it’s very quiet and the breathing is quick.

Fantastically versatile little lens
I bought this lens for travel photography so that I could put it on my camera and not worry about taking lots of other lenses around with me. It turned out to be a wonderful little lens that quickly became a firm favourite of mine - it was only until I replaced it with a 24-70 2.8 that I sold it again. The lens delivers crisp sharp images and a wonderful Bokeh at 120mm f/4 with very little fall-off and no sign of aberration. It is wonderfully versatile to the point that I even used it for concert photography because of its fast low-light focus capabilities. It is a wonderful lens that is lighter than the 24-70mm f/2.8 and has greater range. If don't need the extra stop, I would highly recommend it over it's more expensive cousin.

Multi Tasking lens.
Great lens with a really useful focal range. It's pretty sharp, good enough for Press, PR and Wedding work. Not the fastest focussing lens in the world, but again it's workable. Distortion is very noticeable at wide end but can mostly be corrected in Lightroom or similar programmes. So be aware of it. it's light and feels a little plasticky. Apart from that it's probably the only lens I use for about 75% of my work. Recommended.

An excellent all-rounder!
I was lucky enough to find one of these in a sale and, as I'd wanted one for a long time, I snapped it up. It arrived quickly, perfectly packed and complete in its original packaging. Obviously, I couldn't wait to try it out and, barely out of the package, it went straight onto my Nikon D750 for a wide angle shot of my kitchen. The image looked so good on the camera that I had to put it onto my 27-in iMac screen—it was a stunning photo, extremely sharp and with no sign of aberrations. Since then I've taken pictures with it at all the interim settings up to 120mm and I'm delighted with it. It's an ideal lens for walking about, provided you accept that it's no lightweight. However, I've been used to carrying around a 28-300mm, and there's little difference in weight. The extra bit of wide-angle performance is useful and I don't need the longer length very often. It's been a good buy and I'd recommend it as an excellent lens that would cover the bulk of requirements for many photographers.

No disappointment
Firstly the lens arrived in lightning time. Excellent service Amazon. This lens is an excellent addition to any kit and the image quality is outstanding. No lens creep whatsoever and a nice reassuring weight. Perfect for my D300s. Some may say expensive, but in my view worth every penny and it has a very nice firm quality feel. A good investment if you ever want to upgrade to FX but works beautifully on DX and extends the boundaries if you already have a 16-85mm DX and need to start at a longer focal length. Just move your feet. Coupled with a Tokina 12-24mm if carrying two lenses and you've got all you really need.

THINK BEFORE YOU CLICK
I had been looking around to buy this lens and get the best price I could find. I 'clicked' and the lens was delivered on time and the tracking system worked very well. I wanted it for a holiday on which I was shortly about to depart. My suspicions about the purchase were aroused as soon as I opened the Amazon taped and labelled box, I have never seen such a worn Nikon box. It was scratched, rubbed and discoloured. There was a sticker on the top of the box across the fastening stating that if damaged it should be returned. How odd, I thought. Again something never seen on any other Nikon product I have ever purchased. When I opened the box and removed the packaging from around the lens I noticed it was VR lens and not a VR II as advertised on the Amazon website. I was disappointed and inspected the lens very carefully.....fortunately it was sound. I looked in the box and removed the Maual - this was pristine - but there was NO WARRENTY registration certificate. In my opinion the lens is a 'grey' import and the supplier knows this and has removed the WARRENTY documentation as Nikon would not agree to cover any repair, should they be needed, as it was not imported directly into the UK by them. So, I have not been able to register new lens with Nikon. This is a nonsense condition for a global company- but it is as it is and something we camera enthusiasts have to put up with. As I wanted to use this lens on an imminent holiday on which I was due to depart (two days later) I decided to keep the lens and take the risk re warrenty. The lens is lovely and works well - as you will find in other reviews here on this site - but this cannot take away my disappointment at opening the box of this much desired purchase.

Nikon 24-120mm
I recently purchased the Nikon 24-120mm lens, and it has quickly become my go-to lens for almost every situation. The versatility of the zoom range is fantastic, allowing me to capture everything from wide-angle landscapes to detailed portraits without needing to switch lenses. Pros: Excellent Image Quality: The sharpness and clarity of the photos are outstanding, even at the edges of the frame. Versatile Zoom Range: Perfect for a variety of shooting scenarios, from wide-angle to telephoto. Solid Build: The lens feels sturdy and well-constructed, giving me confidence in its durability. Vibration Reduction: The VR feature is a lifesaver, especially in low-light conditions, helping to reduce camera shake and produce crisp images. Cons: Weight: It's a bit on the heavier side, but that's a small trade-off for the quality and versatility it offers. Price: It's a bit pricey, but you definitely get what you pay for in terms of performance and build quality. Overall, I highly recommend the Nikon 24-120mm lens to anyone looking for a reliable, high-quality lens that can handle a wide range of photography needs. It's a fantastic investment for both amateur and professional photographers alike!
