O'Berry Squeak No More Kit - Stops Floor Squeaks From Above the Floor

I bought this with more than a little doubt about its effectiveness. It’s very expensive to just fix a squeaking floorboard but it just got to me in the end and I couldn’t put up with it any longer. I have a tufted carpet in the room, which made it easier, as there is no risk of pulling a twist or loop. I located the joist with a separate electronic finder and then confirmed it using the special ‘joist finder’ screw. I then followed the clear instructions very carefully. And it works!! Once screwed to the limit of the depth gauge, using the gauge to then flex off the top of the screw, the screw snapped off below the carpet and actually I suspect slightly below the top of the softwood floorboard. The carpet is undamaged and you’d never know it has been touched - except the squeak is gone. Time will tell whether a headless screw can really hold a softwood floorboard right to the joist using the thread alone. But initial response is good.

It's a clever, innovative product that absolutely does the job, but don't leave your brain behind when you start work! I would say that it is essential also to have a battery-operated, hand-held metal detector - to check for metal pipes, electric cables, and nails that lie below the floor. Apart from the vital safety aspect, the detector also helped me to find the joists, because the detected nails told me where the board had been previously hammered (obviously to the joists). I bought a Bosch detector for £40. Bear in mind there could also be plastic central heating pipes under the floor, and these won't be picked up by the metal detector.

Worked well for me as long as you attach the hard wood floor to the joists. It was an expensive operation as I needed to buy 3 packets! But yes it was worth the effort as the creaking has been reduced by 95%. You will always find the plank butt joints hard to suppress any squeaks from but overall a great job. Next problem is filling all the little holes with a colour matched filler. Another story to come !!

Mmmmm, kinda works, but after year squawks started reappearing! Take up carpet & get screwing down properly is my advice.

Don't buy. Absolute rubbish. The screw naps off in wrong place and there's actually no way this will work. Save your money.

When my wife mentioned that there was a product that could fix squeaks without having to raise the carpet / underlay, I didn't believe her. Now I do. This product is brilliant - it really works! Whoever invented the screw (2 different threads and a deliberate weak spot to snap off) is a genius. The hard part is finding the original joist to drill into, but thats a different issue - using the (included) joist finder screw worked best, once I had a rough idea of where to start. Its not the cheapest, but much cheaper than paying a carpet fitter / carpenter etc.

Worked fine when we practiced on a hidden squeaky floor board in my spare room, it stopped the noise and the nail could not be seen or felt through the carpet, which despite being quite thin did not show any sign of damage. However, using it in my lovely, thick carpet in my newly decorated bedroom was less successful and for several seconds I had an indoor water fountain and it rained in my living room for several minutes afterwards! As the carpet had to come up to fix the leak I didn't use the screws to see how well they stopped the squeak there. However the risk is inherent in the product so it is up to you whether to try it. Use at your own risk and make sure that you have located the stopcock, and that it can be shut off in an emergency!

Really pleased to see a product like this on the market as our staircase has become very squeaky and we often hear the kids stir when we go to bed. I really didn't want to take the carpet up and like a lot of houses, the staircase is plastered underneath. I was a bit nervous about making holes in the carpet but there is scarcely any evidence of the screws (which snapped off easily) and the squeaking has been massively reduced. What a brilliant product.

当方、全面カーペット敷きでフローリングでない為、床鳴り止めの商品を 探していてこちらで見つけ購入しました。 踵で床鳴り場所を特定し、テープで目印を付けて補修してみました。 それなりにパワーのあるドリルが必要ですが、説明書のとおりやれば、 コースレッドが床材にねじ込まれていきますので、ＤＩＹ経験者なら問題 なく補修できると思います。床鳴りの場所の特定にコツが必要ですが。 あと、コースレッドを折ったあと、足の裏に刺さらないか心配しましたが、 大丈夫でした。

A great solution for eradicating floorboard squeaks. Really tightened things up between board and joist. Only thing to remember is that once you've screwed and removed the head, you can't then unscrew (if you wanted to). I used this in conjunction with other types of screws according to depth of timber/joist. When there was a metal beam under there wasn't enough room for this length of screw so I resorted to a shorter screw but larger head. I only used it on open timber floors, so I can't comment on how it works with carpet.

That is the squeak I have been living with for the past 10 years. The real annoying part was that it came and went depending on the temperature and humidity, so no one could reliably prepare for the sound that was going to be unleashed by stepping on my own little piece of hell on earth. I would have gladly traded spaces with that family in Poltergeist. Now, however, I will have to cancel my appointment with Ghost Hunters thanks to the exorcism I performed with SQUEEEEEK NO MORE. Although I suspected the supernatural, the real nature of the squeak was mechanical. It was caused by the subfloor rubbing against a metal air duct that runs between our first and second floors in my master bedroom. It was unavoidable. If I tried sneaking to bed after a night at the pub, the squeak would wake my wife and let her know exactly how late I was out. Six years ago we had the carpet replaced and at that time I used a gross of decking screws to secure the subfloor securely to the joists. I thought I beat the squeak. But as I mentioned, conditions changed, the relative humidity in the house caused the subfloor and joists to expand and contract, coupled with the warm air in the duct during the winter and the cool conditioned air in the summer and I got only a couple months respite and the squeak returned with unrelenting furor. With carpet covering the floor, I thought it was time to throw in the towel and just try living with the disembodied voice of Fran Drescher and her demonic bagpipes. Six more years of being jarred awake by the world's worst alarm clock, as my wife would get ready for work an hour before I needed to get up, I decided enough was enough. Mechanical squeaks are hard to fix, and it was then I realized I had been going at it all wrong. I wouldn't be able to fix this just by making sure the joists and subfloor were secured, I had to go right to the heart of the problem. I had to go at the duct work. With my last shred of sanity I scoured the interwebs for a solution that would allow me to get at the squeak without damaging the carpet. Then I found it -- SQUEEEEEK NO MORE. While this product is designed to rid the house of common squeaks, it made no bold claim that it could slay the mechanical archfiend living in between my joists, but for 20 dollars I was willing to try it. Like Jean Chastel's silver bullets, I figured it would be worth a shot. I received the product from Amazon and I took little time to size up the attack. I decided to try place three screws in the same area that subdued the squeak six years ago. As advertised, I was able to sink the screws in and snap them off without harming the carpet, but the squeak persisted. I was not discouraged, I knew there was little hope in that strategy. I then decided to change tactics and go dead center between the joists in the cavity that housed the dreaded duct and its Nazgul-esque wail. I chose the one screw for this task and placed it in the supplied tripod. With no joist to bind against, the screw abruptly passed through the subfloor, and in an instant the squeak was gone. The screw was pinned between the subfloor and the duct restricting the movement between the two parts. Somewhat perplexed, amazed, and fully relieved I stepped back and forth in what once would have been an unholy orchestra of groans and squeaks replaced now with blissful beautiful silence. The silence was only briefly broken as I victoriously snapped the head of the screw off with the tripod tool. On this day, I came as close to feeling what Isilder must have felt as he cut the One Ring from Sauron's hand. Like Isilder, I kept a well deserved war prize -- the head from the screw that silenced the chthonic wailing that I lived with for ten long years. Thank you SQUEEEEEK NO MORE. Thank you.

床が木のでは無く樹脂のシートを貼った感じのフローリングで接着剤が使えないと思い購入しました。 音が鳴る部分にネジを打ちネジの頭を折った。出っ張らずに音が消えた。 良く見れば穴が有るが、音がするより良いかと思います。 ゲージは使えるので、木ネジを単品で売って欲しい思います
