You shouldn't wash kombu. The white stuff is what gives your stock that umami flavour. Use a damp cloth, give it a quick wipe and you're ready to cook with it.

How come this exact same product costs £3.99 at the Japan centre, why do you charge more?!

Some products also imported from high tariff areas so incur other costs that can be restrictive hence some more "Exotic" products are higher charged especially if that product is is not a high volume product such as noodles etc
