if battery dies and key are lost can the batteries simply be replaced? Are the batteries accessible if locked out?

You can only change the battery with the safe door open. Ours did not open when code put in one day it took 3 tries with the code, this is when you should replace the battery. We did not do this and then had to use the key. In future I will replace as soon as the code does not work first time.
