!HEY WINDOWS 11 USERS!
So, I almost returned this product because Windows 11 would not pull it up on OBS , Potplayer, VLC, etc.... Even though my computer recognized that there was a USB video device. It would also work just fine on my apple macbook pro, but not in any program on Windows 11. However, after digging a while and trying to nail down the issue, I found what causes this capture card to not work in Windows 11. If you are having this same issue, go into your settings, open up the Camera Settings menu, and enable the camera access. At least this is what finally allowed me to use it in OBS, and VLC. I assume this means it will now work in the other programs as well. But, as for the product, I believe that it is a decent product for the cost compared to other capture cards. I am sure that after using it for some time there will be some downsides, but so far I like using it.

Great customer service
Great customer service. I got this to transfer old VHS tapes to digital. I was already familiar with OBS software and knew how to set it up correctly for the transfers to work. There's plenty of youtube videos about that. The 1st unit I received had a picture that was rapidly changing between color & black and white and repeatedly dropping out. The problem was occurring with multiple home videos so it was not due to copy protection. I contacted the seller and they expedited a replacement which I got 2 days later. The replacement worked well for most tapes, but some home VHS tapes still had some issues with the picture jumping or dropping out. I think the problem is sync issues with certain tapes due to the way the old analog video transmission protocol was designed, but for $10 it's pretty good and works well for most of my VHS tapes. Also I have 2 VCRs and this worked well with one of them but not the other one. Again I think it's the way the old analog video sync works.I wound up returning this though because while the quality is great for a $10 capture card, I have about 100 VHS tapes I want to transfer with memories that are precious to me. So I decided to get a higher quality PCIe capture card (at about 20 times the price) to preserve those memories as perfectly as possible. And of course it would be completely unfair to compare a $10 card to a $200 one.

Wow, this little device is a GAME CHANGER
I am absolutely thrilled with this fantastic little device! I'm in the process of creating a memorial video for my dear friend, and I needed to digitize a 30-year-old VHS tape. My existing VCR/DVD combo unit involved a cumbersome process of burning DVDs and then transferring them to my MacBook Pro (2022). This device has completely streamlined that workflow!Just a quick note for other users: out of the box, the included cables didn't directly connect to my VCR. I needed to acquire a set of male RCA cables (yellow, white, red) to bridge the connection between my VCR and this device. Despite my limited technical expertise, I was able to set it up easily.I am so relieved and happy that this worked! I now have my precious footage digitized and the audio sounds great too! I had previously started converting old VHS tapes but disliked the intermediate DVD burning step. This device is a game-changer, allowing for direct digitization to my laptop. Highly recommend!

Great item for video transfers and conversion.
This works great! I've wanted to "digitize" my video cassettes into.mp4 or .mkv formats and now I can!

Not a good solution for recording vhs tapes
I have a large collection of vhs tapes and I want to digitize them before my remaining VCRs die off.I’ve been looking for an adequate solution for this, and I’m happy to say I’ve found it. It’s not this adapter though.I tried this adapter, and it works ok at first, until the signal starts to show what looks like interference before it cuts out. And it takes a while for it to come back. Needless to say, with an unstable signal, it’s not good with long recordings for archival purposes, let alone being worth the money. So I tried an composite to hdmi converter. I was initially skeptical of this solution, but when I tried it, not only did the picture look fine and the signal was completely stable, but it did such a convincing job at upscaling you would almost mistake the VCR for displaying in the 16:9 aspect ratio instead of 4:9.I am able to use the composite to hdmi converter with an hdmi capture card and it works well enough for my needs. There is some stretching noticeable with the upscaling, but I was pleasantly surprised with how good it looks. And with a VHS tape, especially old ones, you’ll be noticing the artifacts and interference on the recording itself more then you will the stretching. So long story short, before you buy this adapter, consider using a composite to hdmi converter with an hdmi capture card. It works surprisingly a lot better then this composite capture card, which you would think, and I did too, that it’s the opposite way around.

Hardware works. Hostech software does not.
It's hard to rate this. The Grabber hardware works perfectly. Honestech software does not recognise the hardware it comes with.Software says the Camera device cannot be used.It is a great value for the hardware but zero value for the software.VHS to DVD Transfer with GRABBER and ZOOMAround 2010 I transferred a large number of VHS home videos and commercial movies to DVD using a specialized hardware device and accompanying software. Go forward to 2021. While cleaning out all the old VHS tapes I ran across several movies I had not transferred. I can not find the original device kit I used 10 year ago. I bought the DIGITNOW transfer kit from Amazon for $10. Hardware is USB 2.0 Grabber dongle. Software.is Honestech. I was sorely disappointed with the result. The Grabber shows up in WIndows 10 as a Camera device, AV TO USB 2.0 and an audio device, USB 2.0 MIC. Attempting to record the VHS output the Honestech software says the “camera device can not be used”.I recalled that ZOOM records camera videos. I was able to configure the ZOOM client to use the GRABBER devices. The audio had to be configured for Original Sound. For this to work the Grabber Honestech software has to be installed to provide working drivers for the camera and audio.Burning a usable DVD from the captured .mp4 file is another matter. The Honestech burning software does not recognise any of the common video formats. It must be using a proprietary file marker from the transfer. There is no freely available software to render and burn such video files to a DVD. The best solution is available from the Microsoft Store on Windows 10. Install Movie Maker Video Editor and then upgrade to Movie Maker Pro for $14.99 that comes with DVD Creator. It all just works. The only issue so far is the DVDs will not play on the 1988 SONY DVD player attached to the VHS player I use. The DVDs play just fine on my 2009 SONY Bluray player and on PC DVD devices. Go figure.I can transfer my VHS to DVD at a total cost of about $25.

Amazing for the price
This thing does exactly what it's supposed to with a minimum of fuss. I plugged it into my Windows 8.1 HP notebook, it automatically installed the driver and I was ready to go. The current version of OBS only works with Win10 and up, so I'm using the free version of NCH Debut to capture video, which is quick and simple to use. Simpler than OBS, in fact.Video and audio quality are as good as you can expect from an RCA composite video input. Remember if you're converting old VHS tapes to digital format that VHS only has a resolution of 240 lines as opposed to 780 for the lowest HD resolution. Watching a VHS tape, or digital rip of one on a modern screen will usually look worse than watching it on an old-fashioned tv, because the HD screens are usually larger, plus the higher resolution really shows all the flaws. That's not the fault of the capture device, but rather of the original recording itself. You can't squeeze more quality out of a recording than what's there to begin with. In my experience using this unit, a digital rip of a VHS tape looks no worse than watching the tape.I think it's amazing you can get something like this for a mere 12-15 bucks that works this well. As long as you're not using a truly ancient computer, and you know what you're doing, you should get good results from this unit. I highly recommend it!

DID NOT CONNECT TO MAC
Looked the goods, but no matter what we tried, the DIGITNOW would not recognise my MAC,so it is NOT a Plug & Play. The recommended OBS software did not fix the issue and I am now out of time to return.
