Buy The Periodic Table: A Field Guide to the Elements Illustrated by Parsons, Paul, Dixon, Gail (ISBN: 9781780873275) from desertcart's Book Store. Everyday low prices and free delivery on eligible orders. Review: wow a lot of people deserve a lot of credit. - Fills in my knowledge of the plus 92 elements. I feel humbled by science and peopleโs dedication. History feeds the present and we all win. Review: Rekindle your interest in chemistry whilst you introduce the concept and wonders of the periodic table to your children - Thjis the best and most interesting and complete BASIC guide to the elements and the periodic table I have seen. I recommend it for all, from adults to young children when they first study chemistry. I would particularly recommend it for home schooling. It describes the elements, their sources in the earth, their origin, their properties and uses and their biological function in nature and in human biology. All concisely in a page or two. My only criticism is the frequent reference to the politically distorted view of climate change. which was fashionable when the book was written and should now be ignored.

Super Book
This has beautiful illustrations which really encourage learning about the natural world and the text is highly informative.

Informative but with errors
A very interesting book for the would-be chemist or armchair scientist. Each element gets the same treatment - history of discovery, main uses and interesting facts. Who knew smoke detectors use americium which is more radioactive than weapons-grade plutonium? However I did spot quite a number of contradictions in the text i.e. the main entry for gold notes the largest nugget was 112kg but the text below the accompanying image states the largest nugget weighed 78kg. There are a number of similar errors dotted throughout the book which annoyed me a bit but didn't detract too much from the overall pleasure. Perhaps the author just wants to see if you're paying attention... Minus one star for the errors - now write out "I must proof-read my work" one hundred times.

Informative and interesting!
After becoming interested in the Periodic Table I bought this book and I love it. It is easy to r and it causes me to wonder why science was not this fascinating when I was at school. In fact I wonder why even now students are not taught this at school. I love this book and would recommend it to anyone, so much so, I would suggest to parents that they encourage their older children by purchasing this book and a chart of the Periodic Table. In fact if you are not familiar with it yourself, take it on yourself, it is truly fascinating and informative.

Like It Says On The Cover
A simple introduction to the building blocks of the universe.

As a beginner's guide it serves the purpose well enough.
I chose this book to provide quick, relatively superficial, comparative, visual more than textual reference with a gallery of relevant images. I would have preferred to see each gaseous element directly represented - even if this meant displaying examples in liquid form. Some of those: Oxygen, Fluorine (misspelt on the cover of an earlier edition of this book) and Chlorine have a distinctive colour which gives more insight to their nature than bland images of derivative compounds or bubbles. Even a colourless, fuming liquid would tell us more about how the gas can behave. It matters not if one metal looks the same as another: that is how it is and how it should be shown. Other images are more impressive. The colour coded graphics illustrating position of each element in the table hierarchy, electron orbitals and molecular structure (most stable allotrope) are effective and helpful.

So much information is written and I understood lots elements after reading. I am also satisfied with the content. I recommend to read it if you want to know elements.

The product arrived very fast! I got the book in excellent condition, as expected. Great service! The book is very attractive, it brings interesting information about the elements and detailed picture of them. Great acquisition for those who are starting with Chemistry studies and want to explore a bit more about the periodic table. Yes, I recommend this book!

A beautifully produced book, well organized with some nice photos. Why only 3 stars? Because I found the text badly written. One reviewer said it was like reading a book designed for 14 year olds, and I have to agree. In fact, I would go as far as to say that it is akin to a book written BY 14 year olds. The information is there, but you sense the authors are chemists rather than literates.

A good summary of the elements in the periodic table, their histand and importance. Its a pity however that there are quite a few typographical errors that could have been easily picked up by proof reading by someone with knowledge in the field.
