Q: How does this lead feel like to draw with? I’m currently using staedtler red lead and feels cheap and waxy/plastic

These coloured leads are designed for the KOH-I-NOOR 2.0mm mechanical pencil so their composition I have found is much harder than alternative 3rd party coloured leads. The harder composition gives a much more waxy crayon like feedback, lead lasts a little longer and also helps to prevent clutch slippage. I have found that I prefer to use the softer 3rd party alternative for coloured leads which are much more vibrant in colour but come at the cost of being more soft - which with a heavy hand can cause the lead to slip in the clutch so my recommendation is try a range and see what works best for your needs and the pencil you are using.

Q: How well do they erase?

They don’t erase as well as a pencil does. If you do very light marks you’ll manage but otherwise they will leave some mark if you use pressure when drawing. You can ink over them and they are water-soluble which leave a light hue, but their marks remain even after they’ve been wet. A bit like watercolour pencil but softer.

Q: are these pencils red and in the lead being red ?
