WD 1 TB Surveillance Hard Drive - Purple

Last drive (WD 3T blue) was great, as (I hesitate to say incase they get complacent after their excellent work - was the previous WD 2T RED & WD 2 T Green). I use for reliable storage but this time I needed a drive for possible OS & storage (win 7, XP 64 Pro). Over the past 18 years various drives have dominated (in 2000 I would not best a WD drive). Now after years of use the Seagate Barracudas & definately Maxtores are mostly dead. The Hitachis are balanced between fine & quite problematic. The WD's I have bought in the last decade are still semless: Red: Perfect - used as storage for 8+years in an external enclosure (Probox - god i miss these indestructable esata boxes and the old prices) Blue: Perfect - used as a drop in for the Icy Box Dock. 1 Year. Solid & no real speed difference over e-sata (love e-sata) Green: Perfect - as drop in again this is still solid, reliable and holds e-sata speed (not much in it but blue & red seem very marginally better) Purple: Great/Perfect - they really know what they are doing. I tried this for a change. Good E-sata speed, very Reliable as to date. Well built as norm, nice drive. At the moment I love n trust WD's work. Have not tried black but do not see the need with PC speeds non server. The rest are all excellent. Purple? I guess time ...several years will tell (or use in much security recording as designed...still awhile I would say). Green are fine, red n blue I feel more comfortable with, as too do I purple. A larger size may lead you to their proposed red or blue, and for a speed margin perhaps black (not needed for regular home PC). Nice to have options but better to have ones data still accessible. For now I don't look elsewhere, I just check price & needed size (I don't need NAS so only pure storage drives I get will be over 2T - this is the tec that does move on...& prices get better). This hard drive is perfect for my needs. I currently have a SwannView DVR and the hard drive recently failed so i decided to buy a brand new hard drive with more capacity. This 1TB drive was easy to install and all i had to do was format it and then it worked in my DVR. WD drives are very reliable and are always my first choice when buying a hard drive. I would recommend this product to anyone who needs it for their surveillance system.

Eventually fitted the new WD Purple drive into my new DVR base unit and it seems to be working as it should. Only time will tell as to whether this dedicated surveillance hard drive will prove a good buy and batter than the WD Green drive fitted in my old ailing Swann DVR unit.

Designed for Surveillance DVR, works a treat. I have used WD drives for 20+ years and only ever had one go faulty and despite it being just out of warranty, WD replaced it but it is worth getting the extra years warranty for £19.99 if you didn't purchase it as part of the price :) If I wasn't confident with WD, I wouldn't be planning to purchase 4 x 4Tb WD Red NAS Drives via Amazon.

It's been running non-stop for over a year now with no hiccups. So, seems good so far.

Arrived quickly, well packed and absolutely new. Put it straight into my CCTV DVR, no problems, quiet running, working well for me. So pleased to get a good price and NEW, unlike many marked as "Seller Refurbished". What do they do?, open it up and vacuum clean it. Refurbishing is for a manufacturer not a seller. Working great in my pc no noise at all passed all the self tests and a full surface test. The Drive is to replace my over 4 year old WD green which has been running nearly 24/7 and is still working now 08/01/19 and is now over 6 years old hope this lasts as long time will tell Very well packed which was a surprise from passed experiences just have to see how long it lasts but very happy with it so far UPDATE FAILED just over 2 years old Reallocated Sectors Count 131 in no time failed read test element on all 3 self tests crashes pc when trying to read from disk And to find out no warranty Out of Region on WDs website 2nd time trying to update my review amazon not updating it

Ottimo HDD per sistemi di videosorveglianza. Non ho ben capito la differenza tra la versione Purple e la Purple NV, quest'ultima dovrebbe essere più adatta ai sistemi NVR (non so le ragioni però). Per adesso non ho avuto alcun problema..l'HDD per sua natura deve rimanere acceso 24h 7/7..per questa ragione un giudizio più accurato è possibile darlo tra qualche mese.. Posso inoltre confermare quanto la silenziosità del prodotto. P.S.=il packaging Amazon questa volta è inadeguato alla delicatezza del prodotto

El disco duro funciona perfectamente, pero haber cuanto dura? esta en prueba de 24 horas funcionando y 365 días del año, esta encuesta se podrá completar después de un tiempo de funcionamiento, no después de dos días de compra. 15/12/2016 Ocho discos WD Purple instalados en diferentes DVR, dos de ellos han fallado después de un año y 5 meses, el fallo es que se han parado y han desaparecido de la gestión del DVR, los saco y los examino con las herramientas de Windows los formateo y los examino para ver fallos y me dice que está todo correctamente, volveré a instalarlos en el DVR y veré, pero ya digo que creo que es un fallo del disco duro

Kudos to Amazon for offering 4TB HD in less than 10K bucks. WD performance is quite good considering that this one is known for surveillance storage commodity. However, I am using it as internal HD for my desktop in office. Finding no fault in performance or quality, whatsoever. Quite happy with purchase.

does what it says and its from a reputable company... im currently using a 4TB WD purple hdd in my main DVR running 24x7 for the past year without any problem and i expect this to do the same... i used to use seagate barracuda drives in my dvr but they would always heat up and crash after a year of running 24x7 in my main dvr but these wd purple drives dont seem to crash running 24x7...
