Brilliant sandwich maker
I received this item today and my first impression was it looked too small to make a decent sandwich and that there would be an awful waste of bread. I decided to make a trial sandwich and found I had a small supermarket pre cut burger bap left over from a BBQ and thought I would try this. It was really simple to just drop one side of an unbuttered bap (which fitted perfectly) into the maker with some cheese, onion and salad cream and then cover it with the other side of the bap. I then toasted it on the hob for 2 minutes on each side and it easily slid from the sandwich maker when slightly tilted. It couldn't have been any easier. The toasted bap turned out beautifully, it was lovely and crispy and the cheese was perfectly melted. Having read the more negative reviews about this item, I think that by using the small burger baps rather than slices of bread it would prevent wastage and would be a lot less fiddly and time consuming. I must admit I was really impressed by this little gadget. The only slightly negative comment I would make, is that I think the handle could do with being a little longer to give you more of an unheated area to work with, having said that though, you are using direct heat so care does need to be taken any way. Straight after devouring my sandwich I came straight back onto amazon to order a second one so that I can toast two sandwiches together. I intend to use them on the gas BBQ and camping in the summer and I'm sure they will be perfect for both.

Perfect Sandwich Toaster
Bought one a few years ago that still gets used, so we bought one for a friend's housewarming present recently. When we did we noticed some improvements to the design so I bought a second one for ourselves so we can make a sandwich each. The improvement is in the hinging mechanism, which was originally screwed together, but now slots together. This means the two sides can be easily separated which helps fitting them in a dishwasher. The ease with which the diablo can be cleaned is one of the main factors that make it a better toaster than the usual electric ones; the diablo does not build up any congealed fat during use, has no hidden parts and can be rinsed clean after use. None of this is true for an electric traditional toasted sandwich maker, which is why the ones we've had over the years have sat under the sink going unused. The negative that people always mention in reviews is wasting bread. The birds in my garden don't see this as a negative. Clearly a round toastie maker is not going to use all of a square slice of bread, but it's not a vast amount of bread you're trimming and it does make for a better sandwich. The other main plus over traditional toasters is the variety of places it can be used. As well as the stove top, we recently took ours glamping and used them in a wood burning stove; we got two toasted sandwiches very, very quickly as a result.

Good supplier, received in a couple of days
Good supplier, received in a couple of days. Removed from packaging - dropped on floor, came apart at hinges, bit tricky to put back. Tried to balance on gas stove - it rocked due to uneven grid on stove.' you little devil,' I said. Hey, better hold the thing then, plastic handles not long enough, so burned my hand on the metal bit of handle, 'naughty, naughty' I said or words to that effect....... Learned a lesson there, be careful or put an oven glove on. Hubby savoured the first Diablo, basic cheese & onion - 'great', he said, I then made and ate my toastie, t'was beautiful. 'I love this 'ere Diablo,' I shouted. Got ambitious, so for a week I tried out every filling I could think of - savoury and sweet - used bread and pittas with cheese, onions, bacon, egg and pickle, etc. Desserts are a real treat shortcrust pastry with either fresh strawberries, blueberries, stewed apple and cinammon - today I made a Garibaldi Strawberry Surprise, Yum, Yum, who knows what tomorrow's Diablo will bring? Cannot stop myself using the little devil. To sum up - It's a great little toaster, easy to use, easy to clean and no electrics needed. Just watch out for Diablo's idiosyncracies.

Fantastic!
I bought one of these several months ago and then they came up in the daily deals so I bought another one because I was so impressed! I had seen these at the London Ideal Home Show previously and there were people buying them that day who already had one and were raving about them. I thought I would order online so I could get product reviews before purchase. Needless to say I am very happy with these. Many people say there is a lot of wastage and this is very true if you use normal slices of bread but I hit on a more economical and easier option. Warburton milk loaf is the perfect size and the slices are round - perfect for the Diablo:):) The Diablo is very easy to clean and I usually wash mine by hand although it does state it can be washed in the dishwasher. They are a brilliant piece of kit and take up far less room than a sandwich toaster as well as being so easy to clean. The only issue I have had (and it's my own fault as it says quite clearly in the instructions!) is that I have twice burned myself by picking the Diablo up when hot too far down the handle!

I love it! Best toasties I've ever had and great fun too!
I've only had this for one day and I absolutely love it! Within half an hour of opening the parcel, my daughter had a perfect ham and cheese toastie. 10 minutes later she was back for her second. Then last night i made individual apple pies (stew some apples and fill some shortcrust pastry) - brilliant! And this morning I made a toasted egg and ham sandwich (using a slice of ham and a small raw egg). Perfectly cooked egg and a lovely crisp toastie! It really is a simple bit of kit to use.....and i can see us experimenting with all sorts of recipes. I highly recommend it. It's just so easy. I'm looking forward to taking it camping with us - would be perfect for that. So in summary, i would say this is great value, great fun, easy to use and most importantly, you'll make the best toasties you've ever had - every time. I know what i'm getting people for Christmas already.

Does what it says but many design flaws reduce it's usefulness
OK, so first of all, let's get the good part out the way: Yes, it does make a sealed griddled sandwich and it's easy to open and close as, being non stick, the bread doesn't stick to the sides. I haven't tried pastry, so can't comment if that might stick. SO far so good. Now the not so great: First of all, the handles are far too short. The griddle bit, you put over the fames, obviously and they are coated in black teflon, I assume. Made of aluminium The handle bits are made of plastic and are coloured maroon. On the end, there is a cli so you can make sure the two halves don't come apart whilst you're cooking..., Problem No. 1: the handles themselves are far too short and, as I found out to my cost, it is far too easy to get a finger on the metal, thus OUCH!!!! You can work out what that means, I'm sure. Problem No. 2: The end clip, which is meant to stop the griddle from opening doesn't really work, as it just slips off by just looking at it almost. Once you hold the griddle, given the shortness of the handle, it is practically impossible not to slip the clip off as your palm is over it and the smallest movement does it. Problem 3: not a major issue, but the paddles are very shallow, which means you can't really get much filling inside it. Also, the diameter could have been a bit bigger. There is a lot of bread wastage using a standard size UK precut slice. Problem 4: this is more of an observation. On the video, they show nice toasty browned bread . This will not produce nice browned toasty bread. It will produce white looking dry toast. If you want browned off, you need to cover the outside of each slice with butter. Which sort of makes the stick free irrelevant in a way. They don't tell you this on the video. Problem 5. The Griddle part really can only be used on the smallest ring of your cooker as it isn't very wide either, so any bread caught in edges will burn straight away, thus filling your kitchen with burning smoke. Overall, it's OK, but my Australian 1950s Griddle iron if far superior in every respect and suffers from none of the above other missing a non stick coat. No chance of using this on a BBQ. Handles far too short. Overall, this is a useful little griddle iron, but it really is not well designed and it will be relegated to those times I can't be bothered to butter the bread. Or I might use it to experiment with pre buttered crumpets. It might work.

Brilliant toasted snack maker!
Really love this new gadget in our kitchen, as do most of the many reviewers here. Hubbie loves toasted sarnies (note that the Diablo is called a "toasted snack maker" and not a "toasted sandwich maker" just so that you will not be disappointed in the size and potential bread wastage because of its round shape). He loves eating them and I love coming up with new fillings and cases! In fact, I rarely use bread slices. Any bread wastage can be avoided by using round 'breads' such as pikelets, muffins, crumpets etc nearly all of which I've found fit exactly. Or use a pastry cutter the size of the Diablo and use flatbreads, pitta breads, pancakes, pizza dough etc cut to size and store in the freezer until needed. A popular one I use are Warburton's sandwich thins - thin, sliced for you, yep - square but hardly any corners to tear off, and not so fattening! But, as others have said, if using slices of bread, the torn off bits can be reused, so I've not seen this as wastage. Needs a few goes to get the timing right on both sides, especially to melt cheese without burning the bread, but soon got that right. Very easy to clean, generally just a wipe round with some kitchen towel. Looking to use it outdoors too, sounds great for camping. Think I'll need to buy another one so that we can eat our snacks together - hubbie can't sit and wait whilst I do mine!

Super Snack Maker
The Diablo Toasted Snack Maker is superb. Easy to use and produces tasty snacks. Originally purchased with the idea to keep it in the boot of my car for days out, idea being we could use it on a gas burner for quick warm toasted sandwiches after long walks with the family. It worked well, a couple of minutes on either side and you have a nicely sealed super tasty snack. It proved so useful we purchased a second for the house, just seems easier than an electric toasted sandwich maker with less mess (although round design does feel like a waste of bread). The more we use it the more we experiment, cheese and ham is fine but lets push the boundaries, sweet or savory it still amazes me how many ingredients you can fit into the Diablo and still seal the "sandwich". Current favorite = Brioche bread, nutella with sliced bananas and a small sprinkling of chopped hazelnuts. Overall a great purchase, happily used camping, firework night, on the beach, on the BBQ - wouldn't want to be without one now.

did exactly what i wanted
this "jaffle iron" as we called them when we were kids, did exactly what I wanted. I was not expecting too much at the price-point and was pleasantly surprised. it is easy to use, easy to clean. The only slight issue is you will touch the hot part of the handle the first couple of times you use it, as other reviewers have pointed out, but after a couple of occasions, my brain clicked into gear and I have not done it since.

SO cool.
Got this for my husband who kept talking about grilled cheese sandwiches his mother used to make. This was cheaper than the one advertised as just like the old type and I was able to get free shipping. I like that it's nonstick and cleans like a dream. The only problem is that the little metal ring that holds the handles together got lost very quickly. I'll try to find something to replace it. However, the sandwiches cook so fast that you can just hold the handles together. The best part is that my hubby, who does absolutely nothing for himself in the kitchen, now will make his own grilled cheese! If it every breaks, I'll buy another! Oh...and l love to use it, too.

Prodotto funzionale
Ottimo
