beeping on arrival - replacement fine, review updated
I know this is a NAS drive, but I wanted to use it on desktop with heavy hdd usage (video editing). Unfortunately the drive arrived dead, kept beeping upon booting and couldn't be recognised. Have just returned it to Amazon third party supplier. Installation was tricky on Zalman Z3 plus case. I managed to find spare hard disk support rails from 3 years back. But left one didn't fit the hdd as this doesn't have 3 standard holes like other drives. It only has two holes at the ends, which makes it difficult to properly install & support in the hdd cage. I somehow managed to install it, but didn't work as it was never recognized and kept beeping. Changed power connectors & sata cables that were working with other seagate drive (barracuda). Am now looking for a replacement. Update: 7.May.2019: I was searching for a decent alternative and couldn't find one. So decided to order the same hdd from Amazon directly, by selecting the packaged option which was expensive compared to the OEM option. But I think that was worth it. Amazon sent it nicely packaged, and this time the installation went absolutely fine. HDD was recognised without an issue, and no beeping :). It has been working fine for over a couple of months now. No complaints. It is in the machine which is in our bedroom. If I leave the desktop switched on during night, odd read/write is audible. But not loud enough to cause trouble. Read/write speed is adequate for my video editing. I just need to set up a back-up with similar capacity drive so that I don't accidentally lose my content. Perhaps will buy another one & set it up as a mirror.

High Capacity Speedy Drives
Excellent drives sustained writes of around 214 Mb/s I bought 4 of these drives to replace 4 4 Tb drives the data transfer was held up by the far slower 4 Tb WD RED 5200 RPM drives all had at least 3 TB transferred across in a single sitting. They did get hot so I would recommend a drive bay cooling fan but seem fast and reliable. I would recommend these above Barracuda 5200 RPM drives but I can't say weather the Barracuda Pro Drives are better as I have not tried them. Overall good purchase so far but as with all Hard Drives Time will tell as RELIABILITY over time is key especially on large HDD's

Seagate 8 TB IronWolf 3.5 Inch 7200 RPM Internal Hard Drive from Box Ltd
I ordered the Seagate 8 TB IronWolf 3.5 Inch 7200 RPM Internal Hard Drive from Box Ltd. The parcel arrived well packaged in a well protected in a tough plastic air bubble wrapper designed for hard drives, not standard bubble wrap. The drive took standard sata cables and is running on a old desktop 2nd gen i5 processor, which I will be using as a storage server (my cheap 'on demand' NAS), but the drive does look a bit thicker than my other drives, but it is 8Tb. The drive is fast (7200 prm) and quite and is working well; but this is just 2nd day of use. My only gripe is the courier delivered the parcel to the wrong address, but I was given information to track down the parcel from Box Ltd.

Sturdy drives with too few mounting holes
If Hard Drive manufacturers would stop with the 1TB = 1,000gb con, I'd be a lot happier, as those 24gbs add up. You get about 7.2TB for your 8TB money, but Seagate aren't the only ones, so that's just a general rant. The drive spins nice and quietly at a comparatively sedate 5,400rpm, which isn't leading edge even for HDD, but it probably contributes to its longevity, and with the data travelling over a 1gbps network at best, it's not really going to be stressed out delivering data. Why four stars? Seagate have only provided four mounting-holes on the side of the chassis, which just happens NOT to include the important middle(ish) ones that most caddies use to stablise the drive. As such, they're supported by only two screws in my new Synology NASs, which doesn't do much for my confidence. Fortunately, they won't be getting thrown about much after I've finished setting them up under my desk, so I think I'll live, and hopefully they will too.

Hit and Miss quality control from 8 drives two DOA and twowith sectors errors after seven days.
Currently have two separate orders of two 8TB drives due to the limit on purchase set by Amazon so no need to review twice or in fact three times. This covers all my purchases of these 8TB drives. Current order one: drives were inserted into 2 separate 4 bay NAS units. After seven days one of these starting showing sector errors. Sent back for a replacement from Amazon. Current order two: one drive DOA. I am waiting now for replacements and hoping that the two remaining drives do not show issues. Worse still that the replacements have issues. I should add that i had another order of four of these 8TB drives in July 2017 and guess what one of these was DOA. Once again Amazon replaced it. So 37.5% failure rate upon purchase. I should add that currently the 3+1 drives are OK at present. Famous last words! I did not write a review then but potential customers should be aware that quality control seems hit and miss and has not improved across batches. I cannot believe that I am that unlucky with these specific items. These are things that you should not have to worry about when purchasing items let alone drives that are marketed with "..... users can confidently upload and download data to a NAS server" So much for "Once bitten twice shy" Additional Rather than issue a replacement drive as requested Amazon refunded me So I have to order another drive whilst my NAs is in a "degraded state" Update: Another disc is now giving reallocated sector errors from the recent orders. So that is 3 of the 4 discs defective. Down now from two stars to one star rating

Noisy but nice
8TB capacity for a reasonable price. These drives run hotter than my 5k prm nas drives but thats to be expected with them being 7k. I have been running these now for aalmost a year and no issues with SMART reports, no reallocated sectors etc. The onything to note with these disks is that they are definately louder on write than the WD Reds or Hitachie He drives i have them installed with. 2 year warranty - no complaints so far

Nice drive but beware sellers selling old drives
I bought four of these for a new external NAS caddy and they work well until they fail which in my case has been 7 months after purchase. Having checked the serial number on the Seagate websites the warranties all expired in Sept 2021 despite me only purchasing them in Dec 2023 so be wary of the sellers who are selling old stock or refurbished items. My suggestion would be to check the serial number of each drive against the Seagate website upon purchase and to return any that are out of warranty

Great NAS drive
I needed some big disks to populate my NAS and so I went for the Seagate 8TB, well actually 2. I need another 2! They have been in the NAS for nearly 12 months now and no murmur at all. Not only that I can access the data remotely even on my phone. I know that is part to the NAS but the disks work well and are reassuring that everything is in good order. I need to pull my finger out and get another 2!

Seagate IronWolf 8TB NAS HDD - Quiet, Fast, Reliable, and a Good Value when On-Sale.
Pros: - High Capacity. - Quiet compared with other 7200 rpm NAS Drives (HGST). - Seagate Tools provides an excellent suite of testing and drive monitoring software to test drives before Installation. - Read and Write Speed are very Good for a HDD. - 256MB Cache which is 2X the Cache on WD RED or HGST NAS Drives. - 3 Year Warranty. - Drives are HEAVY with a lot of Thermal Mass compared to other NAS Drives. - Low vibration. - Drives run Cool (compared to other similar capacity NAS Drives). - No Drive Failures in 10 months of 24/7 use. Cons: - Cost per Terrabyte is still higher than for IronWolf 4TB NAS Drives. I have 15 of these Seagate IronWolf 8TB NAS drives operating in RAID and non-RAID configurations. Some of the drives have been operationg for 10 months of 24/7 Data Server and Media Server conditions. So far, I have had no failures. I test each drive before installing it in the servers by doing a full format of the disc, doing short and long self tests in Seagate Tools, updating the firmware to the latest versions available, and generally running the drives through the entire gamut of tests in the Seagate Tools menu. The testing suite takes more than 48 hours to complete but, I would rather spend the time up front to ensure the drives are not going to fail from infant mortality and there are no bad portions of the drives before spending more than 24 hours to load data unto the drive and have it fail. So far, I am very satisfied with these Seagate IronWolf Drives compared to NAS Drives from HGST and WD. The HGST drives are noisy and I am concerned that there will be head crashes. After having the same problem with 8 of these drives, I realized that it was just a characteristic of the HGST drives. I still don't like it. The WD Red 8TB NAS drives are slower to read and write and are loud compared to the IronWolf drives. I also prefer the Seagate Tools maintenance suite over the one for WD. I watch for the sales on the IronWolf NAS drives and save 20% on the price. This adds up when ordering multiple drives. Other Comments: I have started buying the IronWolf 10TB drives. The outer case must be made from Magnesium or the drive spindles and platters must be made from some ultra-light material and different design. The 10TB drives are quite a bit lighter than the 8TB drives with the same outer dimensions. The 10TB drives are also quiet and low vibration. So far, after 3 months, the 10TB drives are performing good also. I recommend the Seagate IronWolf NAS Drives. Disclaimer: I have no relationship with Seagate or any other drive manufacturer. Every one of the drives I own have been purchased with my own money I have no incentive to give a good review other than the fact that I like the product and it performs to my expectations.

Bon courage

They work - what more can you ask if a disk drive
Well you could want them to work for a long time but so far these have been working fine in my NAS box. They were the best combination of size/price for a 2 bay NAS device since your only choice for RAID is mirroring. If you've purchased a 4 bay or higher NAS box consider 4G drives unless you need the capacity that 8G drivers will offer.
