Cello Time Starters: A beginner book for cello

Great book series
This is definitely a beginners book and is aimed at children, however, as a very unmusical adult cello beginner I love it. I don't have time trying to figure things out - I want to get straight down to doing something useful with the instrument, so this is just fantastic. We bought the violin series for my son when he was starting out aged six, so I knew what to expect, but absolutely no regrets - the cello version doesn't disappoint - there is nothing contained within it that you cannot achieve, the progress is in really bite sized chunks. If you are anything more than an absolute beginner though, this book is probably not for you.

Good grounding in music theory and the practical aspects of playing a cello
The recommended book by our son's cello teacher. I don't play cello, but have looked through and like the methods used to teach bass clef, notation and playing technique. We haven't used the accompanying CD yet but I can see that it will be helpful to follow along and listen to pitch and watch the length of the notes. The book itself includes activities for composing, using different length notes and pitches, well-known songs, and lots of explanations that are clear and not too wordy. There are explanations of the parts of a cello as well as inbuilt music theory as a player goes along. For a 6 year old, this could be daunting (we've had a cello for two weeks), but this helps break it down. I'm cautiously optimistic that he'll stick with it!

Titles are misleading/confusing
We love the Blackwell books but it is becoming increasingly difficult to discern which book offers what. We wanted the string time starters for cello and realised once this book arrived that this is something different. I also managed to misorder the piano accompaniments for the cello time sprinters as then cello accompaniments to the cello part arrived. All a tad confusing and expensive.....

Nice book for cello beginners
We haven’t started the activities yet but seem kid friendly and pitched at beginners

Very pleased with this purchase
My husband and I have just acquired a cello and despite this book being aimed at children, we have begun to work our way through it and find it very helpful - especially the CD. Very pleased with this purchase.

Not as shown or described
Shows it comes with a CD as part of the book. Instead it has downloads which isn't what we wanted.

Great for total beginners
Great book for total beginners. Takes the children through step by step. I have used it for my beginners and they really enjoy the pieces. Doesn’t come with CD, however backing tracks can be accessed online with the code from the book which is even handier in my opinion.
