Used this to spray paint some tired-looking metal railings, and the results were excellent. I went for the Smooth Black finish and it looks clean, even, and professional – almost like a factory finish. What I really like is that you don’t need a separate primer – just clean off any loose rust or flaking paint, give it a quick sand, and you're good to go. It sticks well and dries fairly quickly too. One 400ml can goes further than you think, but for long railings or fences, you’ll need more than one. Just make sure you spray in calm weather – the nozzle gives a nice consistent mist, but wind will waste your paint. It’s proper durable stuff, and after a couple of weeks in the rain and sun, it’s still looking fresh with no signs of peeling. Definitely recommend if you want an easy, no-fuss way to smarten up outdoor metalwork.

EXCELLENT PAINT SPRAY

Other reviewers have said that the paint is on the thin side and needs to be applied thinly, I somewhat agree with this. The paint goes on quite well providing a thin base coat is applied, further coats should be put down while the prior coat is still tacky (wet on wet), this enables the paint to be applied a little thicker, but you have to be careful not apply it too thick or it will run. The main problem is the paint takes long time to dry completely, I estimate that a properly painted surface needs 36-48 hours to dry properly, this is excessive and is not stated on the can. During the final coat I had approx 1/4 of a can of paint remaining, however the aerosol seemed to run out of gas, I was left with plenty of paint to finish the job but no way of applying it. I had to go to Halfords to buy another can. I was pleased with the overall finish, but the long drying time and the fact that my can ran out of gas left me a little dissatisfied.

Used this (3 coats) on my MK2 GTi subframe after I etch primed it. Good coverage and went on no problem.

Always good when you purchase a product that does exactly what it says on the tin. Easiest possible paint to apply and leaves a hard shell type finish with no streaks. Drys very quickly, leaves a nice shine. Its made my gate look like new, highly recommend this Hammerite Spray Paint. * * * * *

i have bought 4 WHITE Hammerite AEROSOLS and i only get to use half the Can before it will not spray anymore. I just received a SMOOTH BLUE AEROSOL, THE PLASTIC STEM THAT COMES OUT OF THE CAN ONTO THE PLASTIC SPRAY HEAD HAD BROKEN SO 755 OF THAT AEROSOL IS IN THE BIN. DO NOT BUY HAMMERITE AEROSOL PRODUCTS UNLESS IT'S THE BLACK AND BLUE HAMMERED. THE HAMMERED 250ML PAINT TINS ARE CRAP, YOU HAVE TO ADD TURPS STRAIGHT AWAY BUT AS WSITH THE THE WHITE AEROSOL THE WHITE PAINT TAKES DAY TO DRY . BY ANOTHER BRAND, TRUST ME ON THAT. HAMMERITE USED TO BE GOOD NOW THEY ARE COMPLETE CRAP AND IT HAS COST ME A FORTUNE TO THROW AWAY CANS OF AEROSOL I WANT AMAZON TO REIMBURSE ME FOR 3 X AEROSOLS IN WHITE AND 1 X AEROSOL IN SMOOTH BLUE. IF NOT WE WILL NEVER DO BUSINESS AGAIN. "WHITE KNIGHT" SEEMS TO THE BEST FOR HAMMERED AND SMOOTH PAINT IN AEROSOLS
