Nice Dried Onion
I was a little sceptical about these, but I am pleased with the product. They are very strong smelling straight out of the bag, but that diminishes. They are small cuts, rather than long strands, but I don't mind that. They hydrate very well and can be put in sauces in their dried form. I added too much my first time ( 2 tablespoons) to a pint of sauce. Far too much. I have used them hydrated and fried and like the results. I have not tried my favourite, French onion soup, yet: that should be a fun experiment.I like them for the convenience and they don't go bad, in theory at least. So, overall, they get the thumbs up from me and I will be buying more.

Well prepared, dried onion flakes. Decent flakes, not powdery or flabby.
Good flakes of dried onion in this 1kg pack, nothing else. They've obviously been well produced and carefully handled to avoid any crushing or damage to the product and there's minimal dust. Producer has done a good job. Long shelf life until May 2019, but once the pack is opened it'll need to be stored in a dry place - will stay usable for months and months even if your conditions aren't ideal.I store opened bags inside a big freezer bag with a Klippit closure - that seems to be enough to keep the onion in good condition for ages. These just get added as they are to casseroles, pot roasts, etc if I don't have enough fresh onion. They don't have the texture of fresh, but they're great in an emergency, and I like them better than fresh for soups, stuffings, meatloaf and nut roasts. One heaped tablespoonful of these flakes is about the equivalent of a couple of medium sized onions, peeled and choppedOr, on a weight for weight basis, for every 100g fresh onion, I substitute 25g dried product.

Tastes good and convenient
Useful for cooking when time is precious. Saves all that peeling and cutting - and tastes OK too

When is an onion not an onion......?!
In honesty I don’t normally take the time to write reviews, but this time I had to. Seriously, do not waste your money.Where to start? Well... I have a teenage son with Asperger’s, who has a real issue with certain textures. Loves the taste of pretty much everything, but just can not tolerate the texture of large lumps of tomato or peppers or, you guessed it, onion!Consequently, when I’m cooking anything like a chilli or Italian or anything that might contain onion, I have to chop it up into something akin to 1mm squares. As we’re in the midst of the lockdown I’m doing a lot more cooking, which in turn is meaning a lot more chopping! So I thought I’d see if I could find a few shortcuts, and all I can say about this product is it well and truly serves me right for trying to be lazy! The first warning came when I opened the bag. Now, when you crack open a brand new jar of coffee there’s no mistaking that aroma that hits you in the face. So with a 1kg bag of something as ripe as onion, I was expecting a similar experience, albeit a tad less pleasant. But there was nothing. When I stuck my nose in the hole I’d made and shook the bag I got the faintest whiff of a tinge. But even that wasn’t definitively onion. Just a smell. Not to be deterred I decided to add a handful to the tomato base of the chilli I was making, which I simmer for a good couple of hours before adding meat and beans. Well what a complete disaster that was. They were in the saucepan for over 3 hours by the time we ate and yet every mouthful still had countless hard chewy bits in it. Normally one of my son's favourite dishes, needless to say he’s left this particular pan-full for me to eat all on my own!Thinking it was my mistake for not soaking them before adding (even though other reviewers had done exactly the same), I put some in water just to see what they’d be like once reconstituted. You know that saying “If it looks like a duck and it sounds like a duck, then the chances are it most likely is a duck”? Well not in this case.I strained them after the required soaking time, and yes, they definitely looked like very short pieces of very thinly sliced white onion. Still no aroma of onion whatsoever though. And when I put them in my mouth, they had a faintly discernible crunch, similar to that of an onion that’s been sliced up, but the unused portion has been in the fridge for a few days before being used. Still firm, but no actual bite. But that’s not the best bit!! I can honestly say that if I hadn’t known I was putting onion in my mouth, I would have had absolutely no idea. I cannot remember the last time I tasted anything as insipid as this product. It was the equivalent of making fruit squash using 30mls diluted in a litre jug!So now I have a kilo of something that has no use other than to be whizzed in my vitamix to form a very expensive powder, so it can be added to dishes in a significant enough amount to actually affect the flavour. Something which I could have achieved much more cost effectively by buying a huge bag of onion powder from an Indian store for £2.99!My lesson here is don’t be lazy, if I want onion I’d best do the work and chop the thing myself............

Smooth transaction and product arrived in perfect condition.
Dried Onion can be added directly to soups, stews , casseroles, curries and savoury rices, ensuring that there is sufficient water for rehydration. For use in pies, pizzas, stir fry etc.
