Shameless (USA): Season 1 [DVD] [2011] [2012]

The beginning of a classic piece of television... the American Shameless!
Shameless Season One:First off, in my opinion, the US Shameless is way better than the UK version.Saying that I'm British, and I have never been able to sit through a whole episode of the original, like ever. Shameless USA has all the right ingredients to make this one the greatest shows on TV today. Finally the US has produced a remake that is not only much better than the original, but one that actually works in every way possible. To me, this is probably the first time a US remake has got it right on so many levels. The Cast:The Actors in this show are amazing... and so talented.Lip (Jeremy Allen White (My All-Time favourite character)), Fiona (Emmy Rossum) & Frank (William H. Macy) are, in my eyes, three of the strongest actors on this show, they each give so many memorable performances, and play off each other like they are in fact a real family. The rest of the cast also get their chance to shine throughout, and provide us with some great moments as well, from the kids, to the neighbours, I haven't been annoyed by one character yet. All the Actors connect so well, which is another major plus. The Episodes:Shameless Season One starts with an introduction to the Gallagher family, they may seem crazy and out of control at first, but believe me, it won't be long till you find yourself rooting for them & they may even start to feel like family before you even know it. Set in Chicago in the winter season, was a nice touch for its First Season, I can't explain why, it just, to me makes the show feel more comfortable. These 12 brilliant episodes from the First Season bring so much to the table; each episode will have you going through emotions, and sometimes you may be left feeling depressed at how much goes on in this family's life. I won't give away the plots or anything, because this is a show you need to experience with no spoilers going in. The Finale may be the best episode of the Season, if it isn't to you; it sure as hell is to me. I can't even begin to tell you how spot on they made it. It actually leaves you wanting more, something all shows have failed to do for me in... Ages! Ending the Season with Jimmy Eat World's "Littlething" was the perfect choice for music; it fit the scene better than I could've hoped for. It's one of my favourite scenes of the whole Season.Filled with loads of great moments, characters you care for, emotions, swearing, nudity and bad behaviour, this family only knows one way to live... SHAMELESSLY!Why are you still here? You've got a choice to make... Buy your copy now, you will not be disappointed. If you are, what is wrong with you?Counting down the days till Season Two next year... Bring on more of Team Gallagher!5* 10/10

Great surprise
Worried at first about another US remake of a great UK show, I decided to give it a try after hearing several good reviews. The pilot is a bit weird to watch, as it is an exact copy of the original pilot. But mid season, the US storylines become independant of the UK shameless and the show start to be very good. That season 1 was a great surprise. And season 2 and 3 were even better.

I absolutely LOVE this show, I'm always laughing when I'm watching it. Its just an amazing, hilarious series to watch and I completely implore anyone to buy it as you won't regret it. Also I was very happy with the service provided when I bought Shameless, the delivery was fast and efficient. There's not one thing I'm unhappy about :) x

Stomach-churningly heart warming tale of ....
I didn't bother with the UK version, nothing surpasses Channel 4 documentaries on the daily lives of the great British underclass for comedy. I did wonder though how the US could develop a mainstream comedy out of the idea and the answer is that they couldn't. The product is so sickly sweet you can feel your tooth enamel peeling.I've never seen anyone as paralytic as William H Macy's character who didn't have a damp stain on the crotch of his trousers and whose children didn't usually smell of wee. The only part of the first disc that rang true was where the cute little daughter kidnapped a two year old from the park and, while the neighbourhood is on high alert and panicking, the Gallacher family spend hours devising an elaborate plan to return the child but avoid any blame. Trying to convert such selfish disregard into comedy wasn't a good idea. There was also something quite peculiar about the adoption of the family names, I can understand the writers importing the surname Gallacher (Irish = warmhearted, rambunctious, etc) but where amongst the bottom socioeconomic layers of any English speaking society do you still find a family with Fionas and Ians, not even up here.I see it went to Season 2, I couldn't get to disc 2 of season 1.I thought a much better executed example of the same idea was The Riches.
