Street photography has a tradition dating back over a century, and embracing such artists as Henri Cartier-Bresson, Vivian Maier and Lee Friedlander. In today's digital world, where every event seems to be documented and shared, this vibrant art form is enjoying a renaissance. And yet, compared to such genres as portrait and landscape photography, there is little expert advice available. Mastering Street Photography is a practical guide to capturing the candid moments that reveal life at its most dramatic, absurd or beautiful. Principal and Course Tutor of the StreetSnappers workshops, Brian Lloyd Duckett presents the techniques that can elevate images of the urban landscape from the ordinary to the extraordinary. He demonstrates how the successful street photographer needs to be an unseen observer, with the camera a mirror of everyday scenes and unaware subjects. A guide to equipment and technical skills leads into lessons in finding inspiration, developing projects and composing different subjects and scenes laying the foundations for you to impose your personality on your street photography and develop your own distinctive style. The book also addresses such key issues as staying safe and within the law when photographing on the street, and the art of building an audience for your images. The result is an inspirational and practical guide that will ensure your street photography stands out from the crowd. Review: Great book. - Great book with some really good ideas. Covers all the bases
A very well designed and effectively organised book that covers a lot of ground in jargon-less and clear language. High production values - printed on high quality paper. Lots of good illustrations in monochrome and colour - it really covers all the bases for anyone interested in experimenting with street photography - and stresses the crucial factor i.e. developing a project mentality. Excellent value too at the current Amazon price. As an introduction to techniques, issues, theory and choices, it is dIfficult to fault. I should think that the authors workshops will be equally valuable.

A fantastic resource
This is an excellent book and very practical. It covers lots of scenarios as well as general advice on things like legal considerations. It is written by someone who not only really knows his subject but who is also a super teacher. I recommend this book hugely but for an even better experience combine it with attendance at one of Brianโs workshops- they are equally practical, fun and inspiring. It will drive your street photography forward at a rapid rate of knots.

Great book. Easy read. Interesting photographs throughout.
Great book. Has enough for the beginner to get them started and gives handy tips throughout from image composition, settings to use on the camera, photo processing and legal considerations when in public (or is it private). The 175 page paperback is illustrated throughout with high quality images which makes it a great coffee table book which people would look though just to see these,

The best of many on the subject.
I have read several books on the subject and this one is the best. It covers technique, ethical and legal issues and looks at these on an international level. It is not simply a book of photos, although there are many to look at, it is principally a text book for those wanting to learn, improve on and be energized and inspired to go on the street with their camera. Well worth it.

Excellent book on street photography
Such a good book that I had to say it. The book offers many scenario examples with good photos and camera settings. I'd recently bought a mirrorless camera specifically for my street photography and this book helped to clarify and tweak some settings I wasn't initially confident with and some guidance with composition. This book is pretty much up to date with today's technology and approach. The book offered me more valuable information than I anticipated. If you're venturing into street photography, then this book is a good start.

Instructive text weakened by uninspiring images.
Duck Duckett is an intelligent, lucid instructor fully conversant with his subject. The book itself is well structured and printed to a high standard. Rather than offering the reader mastery of street photography, it delivers a beginner's guide to the subject, satisfactory though that is in many ways. The images used as examplars do not inspire in the same way that the text does.
