Seagate 500GB 2.5 inch Laptop Solid State Hybrid Drive

Great quality for good price + no problems with the ssd price per gb. Worked perfectly on first boot - as expected. I fitted it on an old Acer 5750g laptop, and sshd is much faster than the old hdd. Quicker system start, waking it up from the sleep mode is nearly instant, helped Serato DJ a bit as well (especially when downloading tracks in the background and playing music at the same time). I do not think I couldget much more from buying an SSD drive for such an old laptop, and for much better price SSHD made all the difference I needed. The only issue I've had, was when I wanted all of my mp3 files from a certain library (+/- 300 songs) to have their context data indexed (need to be able to search for data contained in IDtags) - took a while to process, surprisingly long I'd say. Still - likely be an issue with the OS rather than hardware itself, and I only do it every now and then - definitely a 5 star product.

My hard drive packed in on my (typically, just out of warranty) Acer aspire laptop so instead of buying a new laptop i thought no...that's what they want you to do try repairing the old one, so after a chat with an IT colleague, he pointed me in this direction so I bought it......... Then after watching various you tube vids I fitted it myself (not hard at all) downloaded windows 7 etc for free (dont pay for back up disc off the manufacturer there's no need as Microsoft directs you to servers that will let you download it with instructions etc you just need to have your licence key for after the install that should be on your computer somewhere, then get your specific drivers etc from the manufacturers website again for free for the specific hardware you have) and OMG I was back in business. I run the computer for music production ie Fruity Studio and Serato and also for Photography so Photoshop etc. Granted... I do NOT use this for the internet (learned my lesson years ago) i have loads of other devices that do that (phone and tablet etc) so in doing so I have no antivirus on it (no need as long as you know you can trust the stuff your putting on it, which should be the case anyway) and it is set up for performance not visual, but that's what my last one was like.... but this hard drive is lightning fast compared to the stock one. I mean it takes about 5 seconds to boot, so that's from switching on until its usable and the processors are free. and less to power down. I've only seen that on a mac-book before now.All for 50 odd pound and a bit of research......... Well worth it in my world.

My laptop HD died on me so I bought this Hybrid drive to replace it. It is every bit as good as the advertising claims. I reckon my laptop now boots in about half the time - 15 seconds, and shuts down almost instantly. Also, the machine comes out of sleep in a couple of seconds. An undocumented advantage is that Internet connections are also noticeably faster, presumably because much of the cacheing is done via the SSD. I've had it for a couple of months now with no issues. So why only 4 stars? Seagate haven't really thought these drives out. The HD part defragments just as much as any other HD. Mine is currently 38% fragmented - which would have been crippling on anything other than a Hybrid drive. But you can't defragment without compromising the SSD. Every defragmentation shortens the life of the SSD and also temporarily slows it down since defragtmentation destroys it's 'memory' of what you do most often. The simplest solution would be a utility that temporarily suspended the operation of the SSD until you had finished defragmenting the HD. So far as I know, no such utility exists. The only solution is the unsatisfactory one of defragmenting much less frequently than the state of the HD requires. This nees sorting!

Last night I've installed the Seagate Thin Solid State Hybrid Drive in Dell Inspiron N5110 and I must say that it boots up like a laptop with SSD drive. I've used BootRacer application to measure the boot up time and with the original drive (Seagate Momentus 3Gbps, 500GB) it was taking about 130-150 seconds (the worst time was 190 seconds!). After 5th run with SSHD drive the boot up time dropped to around 42 seconds. The 10th time took only 32 seconds to boot! Replacing the drive in Dell Inspiron N5110 was a nightmare (I must admin, I am disappointed with Dell laptop design because in order to replace the drive you must take the system board out) but apart from that the cloning (using clonezilla) was a pretty easy process. The drive firmware is SM14 so I am going to upgrade it to the latest SM15 shortly. You cannot really compare this drive with SSD because it will never be as fast but this is a good alternative for people with only one hard drive bay and who needs more than 250GB+ for storage. The other thing I have noticed is that the drive is very quiet. I paid £57 which is a great price for what you get.

Seems to be a reliable piece of kit, I am using it in my Eufy Homebase and it is working well. Was a good price for the HD!

First, I'm no techie so review is based on from fresh install and used for about 1 month. My WD drive packed in (me thinks the missus was using the laptop on the arm of a sofa much longer than necessary and overheated...she argues but agrees after the 3rd slap (LOL)...and so, opted for this over the 7200rpm (longevity over speed related suits me) and it is quicker but whether this is down to a fresh install or because of the hybrid is unknown. My WD was almost maxed out with films, photos and music and booted & shutdown times slightly slower. The drive came in excellent packaging - sealed, in a small box with foam protection then in a bigger box with more paper packaging to avoid any serious 'drops & knocks'. If, like me, deciding between a 5400 / 7200 rpm drive, and I've looked & reviewed, it really is down to whether you want the drive for speed (faster load times or whatever) or for it to last that wee bit longer (apparently) but I went for for this Seagate for reliability and just using the laptop for general use without any big resources running.

Got mine for £15 here on Amazon. It came inside 24 hours in a sealed foil envelope which itself was inside a jiffy packet. Installed in my laptop, wrote win 11 lite to it and everything was plain sailing. 465gb being a tad smaller than the advertised 500gb but that's usually always the way with drives. It is faster than a standard Hard Drive, again, exactly as advertised. impressive for the price, very pleased.

Very straightforward to fit into my Toshiba Satellite laptop as a replacement for a larger and slower standard HDD. Because this was smaller than the HDD it replaced, I used Macrium Reflect to image the old HDD and swap it over, as Windows backup is, well, it seems ok for some people some of the time but it was making me pull my hair out. But I digress. Installation from the Macrium image was smooth as a baby's bum and since then my laptop performance is significantly improved; boot time (switch on to useable) has dropped from a painful 1m45s to a suave 30s; Outlook opens and is workable in 5 seconds rather than the previous 30s, and overall performance is smoother and glitch-free. Highly, highly recommended.

Se il vostro portatile ha un alloggiamento in metallo dove avvitare il disco fisso, lo avvitate e non c’è nessun problema, se no dovrete riempire lo spazio con un fazzoletto (evitando così che il disco si sposti durante l’uso e si danneggi). La velocità del portatile è migliorata notevolmente, anche perché il mio vecchio disco si stava danneggiando. its worth it as the , the performance is really good, there is difference in the booting of the system and its hardly takes 5-10 seconds to boot win7 ultimate , overall performance is good, those who are looking for 7200 rpm hdd must go for it because of the 64mb buffer it never lets you down in data transfer. and finally amazon rocks in its delivery... nice product nice service by amazon.

我が家の古いwindows 7のパソコンのハードディスクが起動が遅く、ストレスの原因となっておりました。 SSDに換装すれば、かなり起動も早くなるんでしょうが、OSのアップデートも期待出来ない古いパソコンに高価なSSDを使用するのももったいなく、探していた所、SSHDの中古ハードディスクの500GBが1999円とお手頃価格で発見！！ 使用頻度はそれなりに高い中古品でしたが、 そもそもが古いパソコンなので、起動が早くなれば良い訳で、安さに釣られてポチりました。 結果、元のハードディスクから丸々データをSSHDに移行して起動した所、立ち上げ速度とソフトウェアの起動と、体感速度が明らかに早くなり、ストレスもかなり軽減されました^ ^ 買って良かったです。買って正解でした。 耐久性は未知ですが、、下手に怪しいSSDを使用するよりは、長持ちするんじゃないかなと、思っております。 またこのSSHDの1TBのやつとかが、中古で出てくれば、またリピしたいなと思っております。
