This is a robust toy which requires no batteries or refills, it is suitable for boys or girls. The screen is a kind of grey colour and using either the attached pen or the stamps that come with it, you can create all sorts of pictures, though only in black (you can't draw in colour). You clear the screen by pulling down the blue slider at the side. As your child gets older it can also be used for practising writing or for games such as naughts and crosses or hangman - it is really versatile and great for use on car journeys. My 3 year old has had his megasketcher for about 2 years now and it's still used almost daily. The screen is almost as new with only a couple of small dents where it looks like he has pressed down too hard, it still works perfectly. Edit: April 2012. Well I am sad to say our original megasketcher finally broke. When you clear the screen you pull down the blue slider which is attached to a strip of plastic underneath. The strip of plastic needs to move freely down and up, but children have a tendency to put a hand on the screen as they pull the slider which, in our case, resulted in the strip of plastic snapping off rendering the whole thing useless. Since it was a much loved toy, I bought another exactly the same and I am really glad I did as if anything it gets used even more than the first one. My son has recently started learning to write a few words and the megasketcher has been fantastic. We have saved countless sheets of paper and my son gets to practice writing as much as he likes and there are no pens left lying around for his baby sister to find and cause havoc with!

This gives children an easy and fun way to show off their creative skills. They love to show you what they've drawn. This gives hours of entertainment without electronics or batteries. Erases clean and takes a lot of heavy handling. This is a very well made drawing tablet and not one of those cheap brands out there. The shapes are easy to use and store safely in place so they don't get lost. Great for teaching young children their A B C's. They love to learn to write on it too. Highly recommended and at a great price. The built in handle allows it to be carried easily and it's even great to use on long car trips.

My kids have had various versions and makes of this type of drawing board, and all eventually leave shadows which won't wipe clean and so eventually we have to replace the board. However, this appears to be the best board we have ever bought. What we all thought was good about this board was : a)the board is not made up of closely packed honeycomb cells which fill up one by one as they usually are. Consequently the lines you draw are cleaner and you can acheive much more detail on this board. b) The frame is a very sturdy strong construction and should not crack and warp as more flimsy models have. c) The magnetic stamps are interesting shapes, (spiral, star, house and an... (not sure)crown/eye?) and are not solid, giving an outline rather than a filled in shape. Most boards give a square, circle etc- very basic. These are more imaginative. Without doubt it is the best magnetic board I have bought and I would recommend it. As a toy I recommend all parents to get one- my children don't object to learning their spelings if they can write the answers on the board, and also we take it in turns to read stories and illustate them using the boards- this encourages their reading. Plus the obvious saving in paper.

Bought this for my 2yr old son and he absolutely loves it. It’s been great for his learning how to hold a pen/writing device and its saved us from having more crayon, chalk and pen all drawn all over the kitchen too. It’s got a handle at the top and also holds four little shapes for him to use like stencil/print blocks as well as a stylus that’s connected via a cord so it doesn’t go missing. Would most certainly buy this again and I think it would make a great gift for other kids too!

This is a great size sketcher, I brought is for my then 2 year old and it's lasted so well. 3 years later and another child and it survived until it got jumped on while it was not laying flat! The magnetic pieces you get clip in really well so do not fall out and the shapes look exactly like they are supposed to. The pen is nice and strong, well made and thin tip which allows good drawing. The string was a bit shorter than I expected but it did not effect use. The eraser works well, and clears all of the drawing on it. The sketcher is a good size for carrying, by myself and my children. One of the better sketchers I have purchased and would recommend for any parents out there wanting a strong reliable one.

I like the 4 extra shapes that you get and the fact that they clip in securely. However, have lost two of them already... + It's large. Much larger than a lot of the basic drawing pads you can get and so there's lots of space for drawing on. + The resolution is good as well and the thinest lines are not too blocky so you can get some level of detail into the drawings. + Sturdy. Dropped plenty of times, thrown around, but still in once piece and looks to last for a long time to come. - The pen is attached via a string, the string needs to be a little longer and the shapes need a string as well, else they go missing...

We had the 'older' version of this that looks exactly the same only difference is the screen eraser had a spring release which meant kids pulled the button down and the mechanism released back up making it feel really sturdy and a fantastic screen wiper. We bought a new one because the previous version had been battered a bit from 2 children and the screen was coming away making it hard to erase the pictures. Anyway we didn't look at other etch a sketchers as we and the children (friends and cousins) have always gotten on so well with the Tomy one, however if I had known they had changed it, I wouldn't have bothered. It's a little bit pricier than other versions and feels a lot cheaper than their previous version. rather than one 'pull on the eraser' it now takes 4-6 swipes up and down to erase the pictures. it just feels cheap...time will tell if it lasts 9 years (like the previous version). I would suggest shopping around although it looks sturdy it really doesn't feel it.

Cleaning action requires a couple of passes to completely erase the drawing, and yes it is a bit stiff, so usually this is something that we play with together with our son. Maybe that is why they say 3 years plus, but supervised I can't see any problem using it with younger children. Effectively it is all the fun of pencil and paper without wasting paper. So, drawing freehand, using the four 'stamps' provided (good with very young children), drawing around hands, practicing recognising letters and numbers, and (one day) practicing writing. Lots to do. Given the stiffness of the cleaning movement, I thought it might break, but it has survived fine for more than a year now with no sign of damage.

Super ardoise qui permet de faire plein de jolies dessins. La pointe du stylo est assez fine et glisse bien. Par contre il faut passer plusieurs fois "l'effaceur" pour gommer complètement le dessin. Mais bon ce n'est pas gênant. Si parfois, il reste des traces qui ne partent pas, je vous conseille d'appuyer légèrement sur la partie de l'écran où se trouve les "restes" du dessin, tout en passant l'effaceur en même temps. L'ardoise est très grande mais pas trop lourde car mon fils de 2 ans et demi arrive à la transporter grâce à sa poignée. Et c'est tellement mieux d'avoir de la place pour le dessin ! Concernant les petits tampons,il sont très biens. Pour ceux qui se plaignent qu'ils ne tiennet pas en place, c'est parce qu'il faut bien appuyé dessus quand on les range dans leur emplacement jsuqu'à entendre un "tac". C'est juste gênant pour les petits car à retirer c'est un peu dur. Aucun regret pour cet achat. C'est un objet qui à tout ce qu'il faut, pratique, agréable et aucun risque de s'en mettre sur soi ou sur les meubles. Je n'ai pas testé la solidité mais à moins de la faire tomber du 1er étage, je pense qu'elle peut résister à quelques assaults enfantins.

Prodotto perfetto, sembra di scrivere su un foglio di carta, ho provato una Fisher price (quindi non una da 4 soldi) e la zona dove si può scrivere era tutta a celle esagonali e la qualità di scrittura era quello che era, imparagonabile con questa (che non presenta queste celle) sembra proprio una matita. leggermente macchinosa la procedura per cancellare, ma farlo in 2 passate o in 4 non cambia la vita! e poi è molto grande con tanti timbri...insomma, veramente un gran prodotto consigliatissima

(Bild) fuer kinder mit gefuehl und auch fuer erwachsene idee fuer euch tomy : verkauft die maltafel ohne case , ohne abgeschnittene ecken und ohne loecher !! wuerde direkt mehrere davon kaufen maltafel tomy + funktioniert ohne strom + behaelt das gemalte ueber lange zeit, kein zeitliches verlaufen + laueft nicht aus, + vergilbt nicht in der sonne, + ohne waben - darf bei malen nur leicht aufdruecken, sonst druckspuren in plastik nach aufschrauben des gehaueses, extrahieren des paint element sieht das bild viel besser aus, laesst sich besser loeschen, sie ist 15 mal so leicht, und nimmt 210 mal so wenig platz , sollte aber vorsichtiger mit umgehen Maltafel ohne gehauese : SUPER TEIL!! + super leicht 33g 340x255x0.3mm 0.03Liter + loeschen klappt rueckstandslos + gestochen scharf + positiv negativ farbwechsel - kann knicken, noch vorsichtiger behandeln maltafel im gehauese : (koennte besser sein !!) - ist sehr klobig voluminoes und schwer 500g 430x340x45mm 6.5Liter - die malergebnisse sind mittelmaessig, - loeschen klappt nicht rueckstandslos - loesch schieber schwergangig + bietet knickschutz ---------------- maltafel mit fluessigkeit innen ? (anderes fabrikat) habe vorher gehabt. auch aus dem rahmen ausgebaut. ist mit der zeit vergilbt, und irgendwann kaputtgebrochen, (etwa 4 jahre) danach neue geholt auch mit fluessigkeit, da ist das gemalte dann nach ein paar stunden von selbst verschwunden (viskositaet der fluessigkeit zu klein, sodass eisenspaene absinken) die ging dann wieder zurueck, und jetzt hab ich die megasketcher und bin voll zufrieden nachdem das panel ausgebaut ist.

Even though this was shipped from Europe it arrive almost as fast as domestic. This was my experience but yours may be different. I ordered it 2 weeks before my daughters birthday and it arrived in one week but I was informed that it may take up to 3 weeks from the time I ordered it. This Megasketcher was well worth the money. My daughter plays with it everyday and still it works great. There are no wrinkled screens or missing sketch areas and the slider erase function erases image completely. There are 4 little pattern widgets that are included and are very small so watch out for younger children for choking hazards. These widgets are also attached to the board and are hard to get out and put back in and this is a drawback but I still would give it 5 stars. The little drawing wand is attached by a small string which is great so the kids cant lose it and it's about 8 inches which is plenty of room to draw. I love the quality of this product and I would highly recommend.
