Great remote actuator - recommended
This is a great product. My tips: 1. It doesn't work without setup; after the obvious wiring, go to page 5 of the manual and program the SIM number, then go to 5.3 Relay setting. 2. It doesn't work the Three because of the G3 version being USA style. I used Tesco, O2 and Giffgaff all OK. 3. It will not act on non-command incoming texts. This can be a pain if the Network wants you to respond to a text, (like Tesco does for Login). It would be nice if it would forward non-command texts to another mobile, or just be available to query. 4. I loved the detachable connectors and good quality screw downs. The quality throughout is great. 5, Its a bit funny the antenna is fixed at 90 degrees. The antenna needs to be vertical for UK GSM, means the label is read sideways. Anyway, buy it! Its easy to use and very functional.

Wonderful piece of kit
Wonderful piece of kit. Works brilliantly connected to an automated driveway gate motor. Connection simple, even a non-electrician like me was able to hook it up no problems. It actually works on the 2g network, not 3g as advertised so in the UK a Three PAYG sim won't work as I found out as it does not support 2g. Put a small amount of credit on the SIM card, register the phone numbers you wish to allow access via the app (it can be done via text though is a little time consuming). By default it will automatically text you to let you know that the gate has been opened/closed but you can disarm this otherwise you'll run out of credit pretty quickly! No credit used when calls made to open gate as it recognises number, and disconnects. Working without fault so far, can highly recommend as this is only a fraction of the cost of other similar units. Saves having to keep track of remotes/keyfobs etc and you could also program it so that a tradesman for example could have access for a day or however long without having to leave gate open all day. Good luck!

This little box is really rather good. Don't be put off by the low price
This little box is fantastic. Don't be put off by the low price, it does everything you need if you already have an automatic gate. The way it works is that you phone the number ("hey siri, phone gate") and it immediately hangs up on you and operates the relay for about 5 seconds. By default it will text you back a confirmation but you can disable this which means that it is never making any chargeable calls (so a PAYG SIM lasts longer). However eventually a PAYG SIM would be deactivated if you never made any chargeable calls but you can configure the device to send a status text message every 999 hours (roughly 45 days) and this is enough for the mobile operator to keep the SIM active. During the initial setup, it does text you back for every configuration change you make but I went for a Vodafone "max £1 per day" PAYG SIM and did all my configuration that day so it only used £1 of my topup credit. 3 years later I am still on my original £10 topup. I live in a weak signal area but, so far, it has worked without a problem. EDIT: Oct 2019. Its still working well and I have not had to top up the £10 I originally loaded onto the SIM. EDIT: Apr 2021 It's still going strong and still on my original £10 topup.

DOES NOT WORK ON 24v AS CLAIMED
Bought this in advance of our gates going in and set it up with a vodafone SIM. Pretty easy to set up, tested and worked fine on a +12v battery. Left it soak testing for 24 hours and all good, relay closes as expected. Fast forward two weeks and our gates are fitted. Connected this item up and expected it to work but as soon as I plugged it in it went POP. The Aux output for my gates is +24v and this item shows an operational range of 9-24v which is clearly misinformation as 24v destroyed this unit. I saw a flash from inside the unit and now its dead. I’m returning it and will get another but I’ll have to reduce the supply voltage to 12v which is a bit of a pain, especially when this unit should run on 24v as shown.

Works really well
I made one of these 10 years ago, by hacking an old mobile phone, & soldering wires onto it, & it has been working faithfully unlocking my front door, up until last week, when it finally gave up the ghost. 10 years ago these were hard to find, & expensive, but now you can get one next day, & they are cheap as chips (relatively), so no point in trying to make a DIY one again! This RTU5024 worked a treat. One point to bear in mind - when carrying out the first programming step (which you do by sending the unit an SMS), the manual (which I found online) states that the unit sends a confirmation SMS back to you - this didn't happen (I was using an O2 pay as you go sim, not sure if that's relevant), but subsequent testing shows that the unit is working as anticipated. Mine came with a little mag-mount antenna, with a flying lead attached to it, rather than the plug mount antenna shown in the picture, which was advantageous, because I could mount the unit inside a steel enclosure and stick the antenna on top, thus still getting good mobile reception. Incidentally, it retains all the settings & authorised phone numbers which you have programmed in, if the power to the unit is interrupted. It seems well made, & hopefully will last as long as my home made unit, if not longer.

Utter Rubbish!
Absolutely rubbish! Didn’t work and broke straight away! It’s cheap rubbish! Don’t waste your time or money on this item. Utterly unsatisfied and disappointed!

This is a 2G unit - NOT a 3G unit!
This unit works well BUT - It only operates in 2G - It is NOT a 3G unit as per the title description. It operates on 850/900/1800/1900Mhz, which is fine for 2G but it does not work on 2100Mhz, which is 3G in the UK. As a result, it will not work with a "Three" SIM as Three does not operate a 2G system. It will work with a Talk Talk or O2 SIM as they both operate in the 2G band. So BUYER BEWARE - The description is incorrect (and reported to Amazon as such).
