The best thing ever
I have 2 dogs, both collie x kelpies. Both have different issues as they are rescue dogs. One barks at very little thing that goes past the window and she has from the day we got her. The other one has started to get anxious over the past 5-6 months when out on her lead and at training sessions. I had tried the sprays and collars and nothing worked on either. After being banished from the training field as one of my dogs had started to lunge and snap at anyone, either 2 or 4 legged, I was at my wits end as to what to do. My trainer was coming around to see me but not for a week. It was horrid to see my little girl with her tail under her and visibly shaking. I had read about thunder shirt but didn't believe it could work but I had nothing else to try. I did get one from the local pet store as i wanted it immediately. Got it home and put it on woofy dog. The change in her was amazing. It was like she was a chilled out pooch. She still goes to the window and looks out but the barking has stopped. I couldn't believe it. Straight onto Amazon to order a second one for anxious dog as it was nearly £10 cheaper. We were allowed back to training but only at the top of the field where she could still see the dogs. It had got to the point where she would walk in with her tail down and lunge at all. This week she went in with a waggy tail and although she had the opportunity she didn't lunge or snap. It was like she was on something. I nearly cried. Sorry to waffle but the change was nothing short of a miracle. I have my gorgeous girl back. Highly recommend although results might vary.

Thunder jacket
10/10 I can not shout about this enough!!!!!! My dog hates thunder and fireworks but was recommended this. When I put this on he stops barking and I can calm him down. I wouldn’t be without this now and recommend to everyone.

Aids submission in dominant dogs
I bought this for my 5 month old german shepherd. He suffers from extreme anxiety when out but indoors he is totally hyperactive, constantly play biting us and completely uncontrollable. He also behaves quite dominantly towards us. I found he doesn't really like wearing the coat, (it seems to make him itch)but when he wears it indoors he is a different dog, definately calmer but sad, he lays whining and looking very sorry for himself! As soon as I take the coat off he is away like a bullet out of a gun, careering around, play biting etc again. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to make any difference to his anxiety when he's out. In defence of this product my dog has very extreme behavioural difficulties stemming from a neurological problem, so maybe he is a particularly difficult customer! I would recommend this product to other pet owners not only for anxiety but also as a training aid. As I find my dog is much calmer and more responsive to me when wearing it, so I put it on him for short training sessions - next step to get him to do as he's told when he's out with distractions around him. The design of the coat is good, very stretchy so it's not restrictive for the dog to wear, no zips, buttons etc for the dogs to chew. However, the velcro does collect dog hair and my dog seems to get hot in it even in winter, so maybe they need to design a light weight summer model? The price is reasonable, so if like me you are at your wits end with your dog I think it's worth a try.

Calming coat may be worth a try
The jacket works to an extent but doesn't work as well as I had hoped. If you have a dog that is a little anxious this may help. My dog can be hyperactive and it doesn't work if she is too agitated. However, if I put the coat on before a situation arises it appears to have an impact on her behaviour and her anxiety is reduced but not eradicated. You cannot always determine situations and if it is put on when she displays behaviour that suggests she is becoming excited, agitated or anxious then mostly it is already to late to affect her behaviour. We do try to anticipate what situations may cause her problems and put her coat on. I would not like to put people of buying this item as it may work depending on what is causing a dog anxiety and how you can support your dog to overcome that anxiety etc. If your dog is excitable a lot of the time it may appear to have little impact but used in conjunction with other support/remedies/training it may help.

It really does work!
I have a 7year old deaf dog who for no apparent reason started having anxiety attacks at night and waking up to start digging behind the tv or washing machine or downstairs shower tray. No amount of comforting would stop the episode once it got started, I tried phytotherapy and was thinking about getting tranqulizers from the vet when I heard about Thundershirt. As it wasn't too expensive and they have a no quibble guarantee I thought why not - my husband thought I was mad! Anyway I put it on her as soon as it arrived to check it fitted ok and that night I put it on her, giving her a treat once it was on, she looked very comfortable in it. She slept through all night! Amazing! So now she has it on every night, it comes off in the morning after breakfast. If she starts to go funny during the day I put it on too, it works almost immediately if you catch her just before she goes into an attack, otherwise it takes a bit longer to have an effect. It is very comfortable, a bit fiddly to get into right position, but then Bijou, is a funny shape as she is a crossbreed (labrador/greyhound/?) but you get the hang of it quickly and she doesn't seem to mind having it on. It stays put all night and she doesn't try to get it off. Definately recommend it, I don't know how it works but it does!

Surprisingly Helpful
I was a bit skeptical as it just seems like a coat. My dog is a small mongrel; she just weighs 5kg. She gets nervous in the car, with strangers, with other dogs and loud noises. She also gets super excited when she sees my dad and if she's in her cage and she sees my dad she goes crazy. The XS fits really well on her. First try with the thundershirt she just stood still and looked at me. I eventually got her to move around and come for a cuddle just to get used to it. Second attempt was in the car and she was much better than usual. There was no shaking, slight bit of panting. The cage was where I saw the biggest difference. Instead of going crazy scraping the cage she was standing and was looking around but was calm. I'm actually really pleased with this shirt. I haven't been able to test it with other dogs yet but I can't wait for Halloween so I can test it with fireworks. So far this is the best money I have spent for my dog. One thing to understand is that this is not a miracle product. It is not going to work to the same level for every dog and will not fix every problem your dog has. Saying that though it is a really good aid to try and help your dogs problems. Make sure to follow the instructions that come with the shirt as they really help. Also use youtube for tips or if you can't work out how to fit the shirt. I do not regret this purchase at all.

Works so much better than I had hoped.
I am very pleased with this product and surprised by how well it has helped. My lurcher has been terrified of loud noises like fireworks since I've had him (he's a rescue). He normally has a full blown panic attack: smacking his lips, shuddering/shaking, hyperventilating, over heating, staring so wide eyed you can see the whites of his eyes all the way round his iris' and pacing about refusing to settle. I've tried various things with mininal effect. This year I bought this thunder coat. I should have bought it earlier but didn't get my act together to sadly his first night wearing it was 3/11/20 and people had already started setting off fireworks. That first night I wasn't convinced it was helping to be honest, but as I hadn't had chance to egt him used to it before he needed it, I knew that was my fault and nt the coat. I followed the instructions like putting it in my laundry basket so it smelled of me etc. By the second night he was hearing it (4/11/20), he was noticeably calmer and actually sat down and settled with us on the sofa, something he has never managed before during fireworks. This evening (5/11/20) is his third night in a row wearing it and there have been a huge number of fireworks. As you can see from the photo and hopefully the video (the video doesn't pick up most of the fireworks, but trust me there were lots the sound on my phone is just rubbish!!), he is like a totally different dog. He did prick up his ears and look up for a few of the very loud bangs, and very occasionally he shuddered slightly, but the majority of the time he was calm and settled. No pacing, no hyperventilating, jone of the more extreme signs of anxiety. He even nodded off at one point which I would never have thought possible before. We normally have to have the TV or radio on to try and drown out some of the noise, but didn't even need to do that this evening. I am so impressed with the difference this coat has made and I'm very very hopeful that effect will carry on every time we use it for him.

Wonderful ThunderShirt !!
I ordered the ThunderShirt for my three and a half year old Maltese dog after searching for something that would help him from being stressed and barking his heart out every time he heard fireworks. It arrived earlier than I expected which was great as where I live fireworks are set off way before bonfire night. From the moment I put it on him he relaxed completely and didn’t attempt to bark or run to the door once despite the firework noises being relentless. It was unbelievable really and he has worn it for the last three evenings and has been very happy to have it on. It fits perfectly and the material is lovely and soft and stretches well. I will say though that the Velcro fasteners are strong and do make the Velcro ripping sound but my dog was already used to this from the Velcro fasteners on his dog coat so it didn’t bother him. The other thing I noticed was that he didn’t bother barking when an animal appeared on TV which is a real bonus as he usually barks at every creature even a cartoon one! So this will be great to put on him for a while if we want to watch an animal film or programme in peace. I’m so happy that we have had a stress free fireworks weekend at last. The ThunderShirt is worth every single penny I paid for it.

Funciona
Al menos mitiga al sujetar un poco y envolver al perro con el temor al ruido de los fuegos artificiales. No es magico pero si ayuda.

An Amazing Success
Update 05/2014: It's now been a little more than a year and a half since I wrote my original review of the Thunder Shirt. I'm updating this review to say that I wish I could give this product 10 stars instead of the five allowed. This shirt has become an integral part of our life, is worn every day without exception and makes my dog a happy girl. In times of stress, my dog has learned to let me know she want's to "get dressed" in her Thunder Shirt. While she still remains under the care of a veterinary behaviorist and is on medication, she wouldn't be doing as well as she is without her shirt. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- My dog is a rescue that was found at an exceptionally young age (3 weeks) on the streets and was never raised with a litter. She additionally had the experience of someone throwing lit firecrackers at her that exploded when they hit her. As a result, she is a highly reactive dog with serious noise phobias. She is followed by a veterinary behaviorist and is on medications which have helped significantly and we are continuously working on behavior modification training. Despite all this, my dog still had serious problems with anxiety and noises, even on days with no thunder storms. So I can't tell you how skeptical I was when first considering the Thundershirt. I really didn't think my dog would let me put it on her. The first day I made a point of putting it on her shortly after our morning walk, which is her calmest time of day, leaving it on 15 minutes (with treats of course). Thought that I would have to spend days getting her used to the shirt. WRONG!! She loved the shirt. I put it on her every day for a few hours for a couple of days before putting it on her during bad weather so that she wouldn't associate the shirt with the bad feelings of the storm. The effects have been most interesting. My dog still gets stressed during bad weather but she doesn't go into a full panic state. I'm able to toss her treats during a storm and after a few minutes of this she is able to lie down calmly. Additionally, she doesn't remain reactive after the storm has passed. Other changes I've noticed are: * there seems to be a residual calming effect of several hours after the shirt is removed * she doesn't go after the cats while wearing the shirt, and in fact the cats behave differently around her when she's wearing the shirt * my favorite change is that she more affectionate when wearing the shirt; I can't remember the last time she cuddled up to me * days that are storm free and she has the shirt on for a few hours in the afternoon, she is remarkably calm and content the remainder of the day and evening; I now put it on her every day for a few hours regardless of the weather * if she does become reactive in the evening, I put the shirt back on for half an hour or so and she settles right down (I think she'd wear it 24/7 if she could) I have noticed the last couple of days that if my dog hears a storm coming before I do, and she doesn't have the shirt on, she'll come to the room I'm in and chuff at me. If I ask her if she wants to get dressed, she'll walk to where the shirt is and stand there. As I'm writing this, we are in the midst of a terrible thunder storm from tropical storm bands (we live in South Florida). My dog has paced and panted for a little bit, chased some treats and is now lying calmly by my feet. Ears are down but her posture is relaxed. And we just had a big sigh. As far as I'm concerned, the Thundershirt is a huge success. In fact, I now have two Thundershirts so that I have one to use while the other is being washed.

Consigliatissimo!
