Are the boar hairs taken cruelty free?

If you mean by cruelty free whether the animals are killed in the process then yes, they are cruelty free. The hair is sheared like wool from the sheep. However as to whether any production animal welfare is truly cruelty free from the happiness point of view of the animal, then likely not, unfortunately.
