Doing my bit for environment, my purse and my health
We may all be driven back to such old, effective ways. The cleaning products aisles are full of shiny marketed, overpriced this and that with minor differentiating tweaks trying to convince us we need them for a more efficient, cleaner life. And much of it comes at toxic cost to the environment and to personal health, as they are full of relatively untested synthesized chemical cocktails. In my quest to avoid that complicated cocktail in food, personal care and beauty products, and around the house i crawled through many blogs and YouTube videos produced by ordinary people (not corporate marketers pushing their personal brand agenda) who have done these things, tried these things, and are keen to educate the rest of us, sharing their experience. Thanks, unnamed bloggers, etc. Several long used products came up, time and again. Our grandmothers and greatgrandmothers and possibly the great greats - not to mention, hopefully some grandfathers and greatgrandfathers who did not believe cleaning and the like should only be women's work! - would have recognised, used, and combined them. The ingredients are as here, white vinegar, bicarbonate of soda, borax, salt, and sometimes washing up liquid . Primarily the first two ingredients can be combined if you need to create some kind of foaming cleanser - for example for sinks and drains clogged with grease or limescale. Vinegar itself is brilliant as a sparkly disinfectant - toilet bowls (especially doubly helpful as a limescale remover and preventer) but generally for kitchen and bathroom surfaces. I add different essential oils for cleansing, (lemon) or for aromatics. Splendid also in final rinse cycle water or fabric conditioner tray (instead of fabric conditioner) to soften towels. I add something like lavender or geranium - a couple of drops - to the vinegar in the fabric conditioner drawer for this. Vinegar instead of fab con also cleans the machine itself of grease and limescale. I have some previous spray bottles which are useful filled with this vinegar for surface cleaning - not to mention cleaning windows - and have also decanted these 5 litre containers into other empty screw top containers for ease of use for straight pouring. Finally - a great price. Unfortunately all my local hardware type outlets only sell white vinegar in 500ml spray bottles or 1 litre screw tops, at a markedly higher price. These on here have a shelf life of 2 years unopened, or 6 months once opened. But I think that shelf life relates to the use of white vinegar as a pickling agent. Purely round the house would be indefinite. Even more finally...The product picture label says this 5% Golden Swan White Vinegar is ALSO for pickling -culinary use. Which was also my intention for it. However, the label on mine makes no mention of pickling. So I'm not sure if this IS for culinary. The difference is...culinary is acetic acid produced through fermentation and distillation. Acetic acid can also be produced as a lab product, in powdered form, added to water to produce varying % strengths. Finally, finally...explore YouTube vids egg to be amazed at the versatile effectiveness of this vinegar. I've only scratched the surface here. Longwindedly.

Not just for pickling......
There are several use for white vinegar - I have two, and the reason I bought this, albeit i now consider 20L a bit much!!! 1. Cleaning Pewter. Combined with flour and a tooth brush, i use this to clean pewter models without causing any damage to the models. it needs to be thoroughly rinsed with soapy water afterwards and dried but makes the models lovely and clean without giving them a shiny metal finish, which is the wrong look for pewter. 2. Weed killer. have a front and back garden as well as a driveway that is block paved. For the past 15 years i have spent every year pulling weeds and jet washing it to keep it clean..... along with spending a lot of money on weedkillers. I have tried them all from store own brand to known brands like Weedol. It can cost up to £30 to so my entire block paving to the recommended mix of commercial weedkillers....... and then i heard that vinegar works the same..... What can i Say - NO IT DOES NOT It is 100 time BETTER. I filled my weed spray bottle with vinegar. I didn't water it down as i have loads!. I then proceeded around the garden spraying the gaps and weeds - there were a fair few. It was a sunny day and dried quickly. It smells very vinegary for about an hour but soon subsides. I had varying weeds from new shoots to some 15cm tall and round. The next morning, the weeds were shrivelled and brown - completely dead. Within a few days, they had disintegrated and completely gone. I have never seen commercial weedkillers work this well - truly amazing..... for vinegar! After 5 weeks i have not even seen the hint of a shoot anywhere. My garden is completely weed free. SO much cheaper and less work than off the shelf stuff. Whilst it wouldn't be good to drink, I also have cats and feel more confident that they are safer with this sprayed than commercial weedkillers, despite many saying pet friendly. A brilliant and versatile liquid that can be used for 100's of applications - just google it A cost effective way of buying it

Great quality for a good price
Got them over a year ago and I still have 9 litres left. I use it for basically everything, from fabric softener, degreaser, window cleaner, etc. Any use I can give it it's been great. My flatmates complain from time to time about the strong smell but the odor goes away in half hour, so I'm not bothered. I also use it when I cook and it's been really great to save so much money just using vinegar and getting the job done

Brilliant value and incredibly versatile around the home.
We’ve been buying a multipack for several years now and the price makes it excellent value. Every consignment has been received well packaged without any leaks or dents. It’s surprising how many uses you can find for white vinegar around the home. We use it for cleaning, descaling shower heads and kettles (enough to cover the bottom of the kettle works super fast if you boil it but beware vinegary fumes), as a pet-safe weedkiller (mix 5 litres with a cup of table salt and a few drops of washing up liquid), as a fabric softener replacement in the washing machine (pour in the drawer as normal, which also helps to sanitise the machine), as a rust remover (leave items overnight), for cleaning windows and of course as a condiment (it’s safe to consume despite being a little cloudy sometimes). And for a more unusual application we’ve recently discovered that it’s a great campervan toilet cleaner and deodoriser - great for roadtrips in the wilderness. I never thought I’d be writing a review about vinegar but for the money we’ve saved and the uses it has, this stuff is brilliant. Buy some and see for yourself!

Use it all the time. So many uses
White Vinegar is so versatile. Here's a few places I use it: 🌯 Sprinkle baking soda on a surface, then pour white vinegar and watch it fizzling. Very satisfying, but also efficient in removing grime. Then wipe it clean. Works particularly great on sinks, and for many carpet cleaning jobs. 🧴In cleaning sprays around the house, with water 1:1 ratio. With a pH of about 2.6 it is perfect for dirty surfaces. Add a few drops of essential oil for perfect smell. I like jasmine, lavender or sometimes just lemon juice is great too. 🚰 Remove limescale on kettles, taps and shower heads. For the kettle, fill it almost to the top with water and turn it on. When it finishes, drop 1 cup of white vinegar and close it. Wait 1h+ and all the limescale should have disappeared. The shower heads can accumulate mineral and lower the water pressure. For these you need to leave white vinegar in a plastic bag, put the shower head in it (no need to unscrew) and wait around the same time. ♨️ Steam clean the microwave. Put half vinegar in a glass, then fill the rest with water (1:2 ratio). Option to add a tad of lemon for scent. Turn the microwave on high for 30-1 min secs, until you see steam. Wipe it. The stains should come off easily 🧦 In the washing machine (fabric softener compartment) to help with odours and to soften the water. Mix half-half. If I'm doing cold wash or washing cleaning clothes that can't take fabric softener I just fill it only with white vinegar. I find it helps to prevent most of the limescale too. 🍷 Stain Remover. Pre-treat the stain with white vinegar before washing, leave it for a few mins. Throw it in with the rest of the clothes for the normal wash. Try the spray above on the stain. Leave it for 10/15 mins, before streaking with a white cloth and then put in the wash. 🪟 Clean windows with water 1:1 ratio. Add a splash of liquid soap to remove any streaks. Then wipe. 💩 Neutralise odours in the sinks. Pour 1/2 cups of white vinegar down the drain for 30 mins (ideally overnight). 🪣 Clean the floor. Fill the bucket with equal parts of water and white vinegar (might need adjustment depending on how dirty it is). Insert the mop and start mopping. Allow it to sit for a few minutes to break any stubborn dirt. Finally rinse the floor with just water. 🍽 On the dishwasher. With the normal washing cycle, just drop vinegar on the bottom part of the door after you fill it with detergent. It will help removing residue that sometimes stay after the wash. Can also use it in place of rinse aid, although I found not to be enough for the glass. 🕳 Drain unblocker. Bring two cups of white vinegar to boil. Pour half a cup of table salt down the drain, and after pour the white vinegar. Wait 30 mins (ideally overnight) 🦠 Disinfect raw greens. Vinegar kills pathogenic bacteria. Leave them in white vinegar for 10 minutes. 🪲 Bug infestation. Clean every cupboard with it, and leave it for a few days until they all die. Then leave whole dry bay leaves on every one of them to prevent them coming back. ❇️ Descaling - washing machine In the drawer: * 1/2 cup baking soda on the laundry detergent compartment * Few drops of any essential oil (peppermint works well) In the drum: * 2 cups white vinegar * 2 cups hydrogen peroxide Wash at 80° ❇️ Descaling - dishwasher Leave a bowl of white vinegar on the top rack of empty dishwasher. Close and run a wash cycle on the hottest setting. If this is not enough, use baking soda with a quick hot wash. 🍚 Don't forget it is suitable for consumption too. Use as emergency sushi vinegar. If I’m out, I occasionally use this one. It should only be used for emergencies 😂 Pair it with a Pump Dispenser. It is not the solution for everything, but almost 👌🏽 I have been using the Golden Swan for almost ten years. It started with a few uses, and now I use it for all this stuff. Best to buy in bulk. Unfortunately the price has been increasing, used to be £12 for 4. However it is still the best deal for now.
