It’s a beautifully illustrated picture book, which still has pride of place in his room now he’s a teenager. He has spent hours looking at the pictures and talking about the places. Brilliant book
This book catches your eye instantly. I regularly read it in shops so decided to save myself the time and get one to read at home! The illustrations are beautiful and very informative. I do find it overwhelming to sit and read through in order as there are so many little pictures and bits of info you are bound to forget (maybe I just have a bad memory!). But it's perfect for when you want to find a bit more about a specific country, or are travelling somewhere. As other reviewers have mentioned it doesn't include every country but it would be rather huge if it did so I can see why. This book would appeal to all ages. I am in my 20s and bought it primarily for myself but everyone who sees it on the coffee table wants to take a look!

Amazing illustrations! really creative
BEST. BOOK. EVER. I bought this book for my neice and nephew and honestly I miss having this book myself. The illustrations are amazing and will keep kids engaged because there is soo much to discover. Everytime you open the book you will discover something new. As a biologist I also really liked that they don't just illlustrate a whale and then call it a whale, no, they show a humpback whale and will mention the actial species, for whales, birds every animal - really cool details. Btw they also do this for different cultures in countries, so all in all a really great book to let kids discover about the world. I will probalby buy another book of this author for them (or myself..)

Oustanding book of maps
I've bought this maps book as a Christmas present for my 7 year old nephew. I've uploaded a few photographs to show you how it looks. I've looked at this a few times in a book shop in Liverpool city centre and was really impressed at how it looks - feels and the absolutely massive amount of information it provides on every single page! It reminds me of the kind of book that you had as a kid that has stuck in your head 40 years later! It measures 15 x 11 inches. So opened up it's 22 inches wide so it's a nice big book! The pages are thick card and make a nice page turning noise and . . .this one smells like a book! Illustrations are brilliant! They look hand drawn but are very clear with good colours. The kind of things you will see in here . . . taking the UK as an example. - Capital city - Population - Most common girls and boys names - Languages spoken. English, Welsh, Scots, Irish, Scottish, Gaelic and Cornish! - Area in Sq Km/Miles - Scale of distance in KM/Miles - Landmarks - Historical persons of note - Major cities. These are depicted with an associated building or landmark. For Liverpool we see The Royal Liver Building. - Typical foods from the country - Sports and pastimes - Animals particular to that country - Mountains, ranges and major rivers, surrounding coastal waters - The flag. Union Jack here! All the above more often than not have a short but concise description of what they are. The few adults who have picked this up in my house and had a quick look through it have all said how good it is. The amount of interesting information any child or adult can pick up from thumbing through this book is amazing in my opinon. I never knew that Copernicus was Polish! I do now. This is a very well put together lovely looking keepsake book that I think any kid interested in maps, geography and the world around them will love! Money well spent.

Nice book, where’s Ireland?
This is a very nice book and I like the layout and the illustrations. As someone else mentioned it it a bit cluttered, however one of the biggest disappointments for me was Ireland barely being referenced. There’s a bit of N.Ireland but the Republic is half off the page (has The Beatles on it?) and hardly mentioned elsewhere. What’s that all about?

My Year 2s genuinely love love love this book
My Year 2s genuinely love love love this book. It is always the first one chosen during book corner reading time, and the kids always ask for it next. It's always picked when I ask them to pick a book for story time, and we've had so many interesting conversations about different countries. It's also helped them since they have to learnt the names of the continents and oceans, and alongside our geography topic this book has been great! They can now ask for a country and tell me what the continent is, read the names on the contents page and show me where it is on the map in the front of this book. The information it provides them with is just so interesting and real and genuine. I've even had parents coming up to me and asking where I got it because their child won't stop talking about it. Just absolutely fantastic.

A beautifully illustrated Book!
My 5 year old daughter has recently taken a big interest in the world, she is hungry for knowledge regarding the continents, climate, flags and other such information regarding each country. This is a stunning book, beautifully illustrated and ideal for curious little minds like my daughters. The pages show each country and the food, clothing, major architectural wonders, flags, famous people and general items each country is famous for e.g. England, Red Bus, The Queen, London Eye, Fish n Chips. It is a rather large book, which I personally really like and it is create as a coffee table book, that any guest would enjoy browsing I highly recommend this book!

This is a large book and will easily be the largest in many home book collections
This is an outstanding book for anyone who wants to introduce their children to the world. Made in the lines of a traditional atlas, Maps, has been illustrated with painstaking detail and will cause children (and adults alike) to ask questions about what they see. This is a large book and will easily be the largest in many home book collections. Wonderfully produced this is a must for anyone who wants to get their children to be curious about the world.

cute and educative
I love the illustrations and how the countries are described. I just don't give 5 stars because there are a few countries missing on the map and if you or your kid is from that country, it can be confusing.

Sold by the reference stated "lonely planet"
We have already bought the special edition with some extra map. Bought this earlier thought I have missed out them in the special edition so hoping to see more south east asian countries in this earlier version however there was none. I didn't miss out but there is no maps on Singapore and Malaysia. Nonetheless we love the illustrations.
