Does it come with a filter?

Yes,it comes with a removeable filter. The filter is quite coarse,and while it gets rid of large lumps of sediment,some fine bits may still get through. Hope this helps.

Is the filter on top supposed to be a loose fit or a secure fit? Mine is quite loose and easily moves/falls off. Just want to check is that is right?

Loose fit, it just sits on top. Surprisingly it does catch the odd bit too!

What is the strainer for please

The removable strainer is to catch and collect and small pieces of debris or damaged cork from the wine. Also, some wines have existing residue within the wine. You can use the product without the strainer; but I find it works just fine with it.

How often does the filter need replacing?

It is metal and can be washed. No replacement required unless it is physically damaged.
