Great chip, Great customer support by Intel and Amazon when up in flames.
Running mines at stock because there's no need to overclock it. Destroys everything I throw at it; video rendering, multithreaded compression, gaming. Could probably do all 3 at the same time. I'm using mines with a Kraken X61 cooler, and it never goes above 50C unless I'm stress testing it. I idle at 34C. The only downfall with this chip is the X99 chipset and the motherboards. This is actually my second chip, as my first only lasted 5 months (due to motherboard faults). I was running the 5820k @ 4.0GHz on a Asus X99-S with Antec HCP-1300. During normal desktop usage, I had a fatal fault with my system. Upon troubleshooting, the PSU and motherboard AND processor was dead. There were no physical defects on the chip, or on the power supply cables (they're modular, I examined the used leads, no burns or charred pins. Replaced cables and nothing). If you google X99 VCCIN manufacturing fault you'll see results with all different motherboards and chips. I reached out to all 3 companies. Intel got back to me within 48 hours of my first email/RMA request during the weekend. I sent my chip on tuesday, and received a new chip on friday morning. Some of the best customer support I've ever received. Asus would not accept responsibility and would not provide an RMA on the motherboard as the serial key was not recognized on their RMA website?? They refused to RMA my board and told me to talk to my seller. Eventually got my refund after 2 months of chasing it up with an independent seller Antec did not respond to my RMA request or any emails within 3 weeks. I desperately reached out to Amazon as they sold me my PSU and they got me sorted out with a replacement within the same week. Very pleased with Amazon as always, excellent customer support with a very helpful representative.

Excellent cpu, even air-cooled with good samples.
5820k at 4.4Ghz with just 1.2 volts. Old single piece Noctua heatsink with a couple new PWM fans. I get just 75-80 degrees max as measured by Core Temp or Intel whilie in Handbrake/Intel Extreme stress-test. Temperature sensor doesn't play nicely with Speedfan, kept reporting much lower temps than Intel utility. I bought my 5820k in summer, 2015 so it is probably from a late manufacturing run and perhaps a little more efficient voltage-wise than most of the release samples. Had to use manual voltage to force turbo all the time as one app I use needs consistency. It eats Handbrake video encodes for breakfast, e.g. 1080p CRF14 x264 at 50fps+. For comparison's sake my previous Q6600 (which had fewer modern instruction sets ) would have managed about 2 fps at that quality. In other words, this processor exceeded my expectations and I can only assume the recent batches have been more efficient voltage-wise, or that I was very lucky. My chip is stable at 4.5 or more, but the voltage jump to around 1.26v required is too excessive heat-wise for my air-cooled PC as is, and I don't wish to risk shortening its life, have to spend more on cooling, or have water in my system. If you are in the market for a new cpu, you might prefer to get a newer cpu as Broadwell-e will likely be better.

XMP / high speed RAM issues
Purchased from amazon warehouse for £269. I would normally be a bit wary of second hand processors but this has been rock solid since purchase a couple of months or so ago. Stable and low temps at base line but I did not really notice much improvement in benchmarks (3dmark) going from i5 4670k z97 platform. That said these are overkill for gaming. Read on if you are interested in overclocking / xmp: Overclocking with AIO on asus x99 a. A word of warning xmp profiles for ram rated over 2133mhz can can the blck and strap settings, this can have some unexpected consequnces. one would be poor system stability others I noticed were higer idle temps (as the cpu frequency etc were also changed) - this is different to the z97 where only the ram settings changed. I was unable to get the board to post with xmp on 3 different ram kits. (Currently using corsair dominator platinum 3333mhz.) It has taken me ages but I have a stable overclock of this and I have had to go mostly fully manual. That said it is running nicely at 4.5GHz with a ram speed of 2666MHz and I am happy with temps etc. So question is do the higher end processsors have the same issue, from a review I read I think not but I am not 100% sure. I would probably still buy this processor rather than the ridiculously expensive higher end alternatives however wish I had done my homework. Hope this helps others.

Great CPU for Content Creation
Been using this possessor for 1 month now. This CPU is almost 5x faster then my old 6 year old AMD Athlon II 620 x4! I bought this CPU to do a wide range of tasks but mainly for 3D Rendering. This CPU with 12 threads it indescribably fast at rendering images when my work is to much for my GPU's to handle. So far i have no over clocked it but have not needed but can apparently reach 4.5 if i needed a extra kick. If your gaming then it is obviously pointless to buy this CPU as the difference from my old CPU to this in unnoticeable in gaming. If you are video editing, 3D modelling and using software that can use 12 threads, than it is deffinatly worth it. One point, make sure you buy suitable cooling for this CPU. I had to go out a buy a H100i which keeps this cool at 28oC idle.

Best 6 core processor if you are on tight budget/ could not afford to go for higher cores. I bought this for my rendering purpose and it is serving at its best. Go for this if you have CPU demanding tasks and tight on budget.
