Great water fountain for a very reasonable price
Very pleased with this. I bought this to ensure that my cat would have a clean fresh supply of drinking water while I was away for a few days. It was really easy to assemble and the cord is a good length (about 3 metres) allowing it to reach a plug socket, which in my kitchen is a good distance from the best place for the water fountain to sit. There is also a jack plug near to the water fountain itself allowing the fountain to be easily unplugged from the power for cleaning without removing the plug from the wall socket. The filter under the two higher tiers of the fountain just slides into place in the grooves and the pump clips in and is held in place by a little turn key. The fountain holds two litres of water and the pump has an adjustable flow rate to suit each cat. I operate mine at a quarter of the highest flow rate which keeps the water nice and cool, my kitchen is not the warmest place so if your kitchen or wherever you keep your cats water is fairly warm you may need to use a higher flow setting. The filter, so far at least, traps the stay cat hairs that inevitably find their way into my cats water. It has also done a marvellous job of keeping out soggy chunks of biscuit that my one year old son seems to like dunking inn the cats water. Perhaps because of this my cat will only drink from the middle level of the fountain. Most particularly she seems to like drinking from the little 'waterfall' or waterslide where all the nice fresh filtered water is. Cleaning this fountain is really easy too. Just unplug near the fountain allow the water to drain out of the top layers and lift up. Remove the filter and rinse under a tap.The rest of the fountain is easy to clean with a cloth and then reassemble. I've not had to do the monthly maintenance yet but from the instructions it shouldn't be much more difficult than the routine cleaning. As I bought the fountain to keep my cat supplied with clean fresh water while I was away for a few days I tested the fountain out before hand to make sure my cat would drink from it and to ensure that the flow rate I had selected wouldn't allow the the pump to run dry when I wasn't about. With the flow rate at a quarter after a week of constant use the water level still hadn't dropped below the minimum mark but with my kitchen not being very warm that has probably helped reduced water evaporation. I have read a few reviews saying that the pump was quite noisy but I haven't found that to be an issue. As far as the pump goes you can barely hear it. The hum of my fridge is louder than the sound of the pump and you can even hear the trickling of the water as it runs down the waterslide. When you first start up the fountain after initial set up or after cleaning the pump makes an audible sound as it pumps the water up to the top level but once that has filled up the noise of the pump drops dramatically to being barely audible. Overall I'm very pleased with the quality of this fountain especially for the price I paid which was very reasonable

Perfect for my elderly cat. detailed instructions inc. electric plug. Excellent packaging.
I just had to comment on this superb waterfountain. My original fountain gave up the ghost and my poor old cat was back to the old glass dish. I bought a small remote control fountain with a blue light(what for?) - she refused to go anywhere near it and in desperation I opted for this one. To begin with the instructions are very detailed, in plain English and very comprehensive. I set it up as instructed and within 5 minutes she was inspecting it and using it without any problem. It is super quiet(not too much a problem to the cat as she is very deaf!!) I am delighted with it , as is Sheba

My cats are less than impressed than I am!
I bought this product from Amazon after seeing a couple in use and then researching different models online. After one of my cats had a recurrence of FLUTD, my vet advised me to get a drinking fountain, and while my other three cats do love their water (and one even seems to get so much pleasure from just drinking and drinking) the cat who should be drinking most, doesn't. He sometimes drinks water from the bath tap if you turn it on to a trickle, so I thought getting a fountain would be perfect solution, since cats do seem to prefer running or trickling water. After deciding on this particular model over others, mainly due to the brilliant reviews and the fact most people seemed to think it was quiet, and also the design which would allow several cats to drink at the same time from the different areas, I ordered it - and also a pack of filters from a different supplier on Amazon. I received the fountain and the separate filters within 48 hours of my order, which impressed me. I set the fountain up (after washing all the parts). It is extremely easy to set up, but you must put the filter in the right way round. Incidently, a word about filters: I've read reviews saying people just run these under the tap, but while this may get rid of pet hairs etc. the reason for the filters is that they absorb impurities, and washing a filter under the tap will not wash these away. After setting it up, I was really impressed by the lack of noise it makes. The only noise is the soft sound of trickling as the water runs down the chute from the top level to the bottom. You need to make sure you fill it to the right level or it won't work properly. Once filled, it starts running immediately. My cats were not immediately drawn to it, as some adverts suggest, and didn't notice it at first. however, they all came for a look and while they were all initially quite curious, only two of them have used it for its intended purpose, and then the novelty wore off. The cat it was originally bought for hasn't drunk from it at all to my knowledge. One cat just played with it, dipping his paw in and out and trying to catch the water! I am going to have one last attempt to get them to use it by removing all but one of their water bowls, the idea being if they are thirsty they will use the fountain. However, as I work long shifts and don't get home until 10pm three days out of six, I can't risk leaving them without a source of water that they will actually use, particularly in this warm weather. I'll give it another week then pass it onto a friend who is thinking of getting one! My verdict: great product but my cats might just be too fussy! I would definitely still recommend it as the idea is ingenious, and it really is unobtrusive and quiet. It's also a lot smaller than you might expect, but in my view this is a plus, as it means you can put it pretty much anywhere you want. Cats apparently prefer their water away from their food, so the small size of this product means it doesn't really take up much more room than a couple of water bowls.

Really good & easy to set up
Really easy to set up, one thing I will say is wash the filter for a couple of minutes, wish I had before switching it on as black bits came from the charcoal and also the water was really cloudy, so had to take apart and clean it, which is really easy, The cat loves it too,! ! EDIT: it's very quiet!

Perfect solution
Brilliant, was really concerned about my Trea not drinking with it being so warm. No matter how many bowls of water I left out I didn't once see her drinking any. She would drink out of a running tap and this was the perfect solution. She drinks out of it all the time now which truly puts my mind at ease. Definately recommended for the fussy cats

Simple, quiet, complete.
I took advantage of a offer that allowed me to purchase this at around a 1/3 of its normal price. Which, if I'm to be honest, the full price of almost £30 ( I paid £19 +£8 postage) is a bit pricey. My only concern was the amount of postage with this offer. It seemed a little high. However, it came very well packaged and within a few days of ordering. The drinking fountain is made up from 2 fuss free strongly moulded plastic pieces, a small pump, and a carbon filter. Very simple and plain in design makes for easy maintenance. The instructions aren't really a necessity, as it came fully made up and ready to be plugged in. It holds around 1.5 litres of water, and allows the cat a choice of drinking from moving water, or stationary. As we have several cats, it needs topping up once or twice a day, and cleaning once a week. The main feature of this fountain is it is extremely quiet. Cats don't particularly like noisy machinery of any variety, so, this is a definite plus. It is advisable to have a bowl of fresh water nearby, while your cat or small dog gets used to it. The filters are quite cheap to purchase, and it's advisable to change it on a monthly basis. The pumps are around £12 to replace. The 2 plastic pieces appear particularly robust, and will most probably see out the lifetime of your pet. I am extremely pleased with this fountain. Having bought a couple other designs, that didn't last long, and were fussy to clean, and expensive for filters etc, this is a dream appliance. Yes, it is expensive, and at first you may wonder why as it's so simple in every way. After the initial outlay, and filters, it is actually cheap to run, and it uses little in the way of electricity. I definitely recommend this item.

Initially really good but there are problems
I bought this around 8 months ago now and it was wonderful to begin with. It has a large capacity for water and cycles the water well. There’s a small grate on the front of the fountain that allows the water in and blocks a majority of cat hair from ever getting near the filter. Anything that does slip through is caught by the filter and fresh water then goes up into the pump. The fountain is quiet and very simple to set up. Our cats took to it very quickly and we have had no issues with them using it at all. It can be a little tricky to clean as there are lots of corners and crevices a sponge won’t get into but a good scrubby bristled brush will make light work of it. Unfortunately, we have an absolute menace of a cat who has recently figured out that the top part of the fountain comes off very easily. He has learnt to remove the top of the fountain very quickly and once it is off he starts chewing at the plastic inside as well as the motor and filter. As a precaution we have stopped using the fountain as intended and now just use the base of it as a water bowl. We will have to find a new brand where the top is better secured. Having recently caught him in the act I’ve realised how incredibly easy it is for him to pop the top off simply by pawing at it. While this won’t be an issue for most, I wanted to make this review for those who also have very inquisitive cats who may find the little buzzing box inside the water bowl interesting enough to try and investigate. The top of the fountain is not secured to the base at all, it slots in which holds it in place but any upwards force will take it out. When it comes out it takes all the water currently cycling through with it and he has soaked our floors multiple times before we realised it wasn’t just an accident.

Good purchase; so far so good
Update after almost 2 years, original review and update below: It's still going. All the original parts, original pump etc. Still great. Still 5 stars. The scratches are a little worse now. We might consider re-ordering, but as long as it's clean the kitties don't care that they've scratched the edges after 2 years of constant use. I'm suprised the pump is still going. We make sure to clean the pump out every few months, maybe that's helped keep the stress on it down. We've noticed no change in performance really and the filters are changed not quite as frequently as recommended but they aren't too expensive for the official ones either. ----Update after 12 months: original review below So I updated my review of the filters we buy to go in this and I thought I'd update to reflect my opinion one year on. The plastic has become scratched a fair bit around the edges; where our cats like to play with the water edge; unless made from metal this was bound to happen. But no functionality has been lost. We perform less than regular cleaning and maintenance and have encountered no issues. The pump is still going. The cats find it a bit too easy to unplug the fountain by pulling cables but the resolution was to tape the cables to the underside in the copious amounts of space in the gaps. All in all; considering the price paid; I'd say this is still a really amazing purchase and don't regret it one bit. Still happy with function, appearance, noise, capacity and the cats are too; which is the important thing! 5 stars remains in place for me. The refill cartridges we use are: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Replacement-Cartridges-Mate-Pet-Fountain/dp/B0025YT83E ---Original review--- This was a purchase we made after the kittens insisted on flipping over their water bowl and splashing it everywhere. We thought, perhaps, they couldn't see the water level too well. So we investigated water fountains. After research; this fountain came out on top for value, size, and most importantly noise. Soon after setting up, the kitties rushed over to investigate. After 24 hours of getting used to it, where they splashed a little and investigated, we noticed they were drinking from it too. Now they still splash some, but I'd say they splash less and the capacity is so high (2L) that we don't worry so much about that now. The power is 2.8VA so on medium power I'd guess 2W usage. The pump runs with a low hum that doesn't bother the cats. Customisable pump power is quite useful. Min Max fill markers on unobtrusive and don't attract the kittens attention (sometimes they like to play with small markers on things to see what they are) We've been impressed so far. for the money it's very nice and quiet. And if the power goes; the water is available at the bottom still for them!

UK plug only!!!
The fountain came with a UK plug, which is not mentioned clearly in the listing. As I'm in the EU, I'll have to return it.
