Chamber of Secrets Illustrated Edition
I absolutely adore these illustrated editions of the Harry Potter series, the first one was stunning and the Chamber of Secrets is just as beautiful so I can't wait to have the entire series on sitting on my shelves! I'm not going to talk about the story in this review (I've already done that HERE) so instead I'll focus on the quality of the book and the artwork.Just like the Philosopher's Stone illustrated edition this is a beautiful book in every way possible, I'm sure everyone who is looking at this already owns the previous one and has a good idea what to expect but just in case you're considering buying both illustrated versions I'll give you the highlights. These books are large hardbacks with good quality glossy pages full of wonderful illustrations to go along with the familiar text of the story. I love the way the illustrations vary from tiny little images through to whole double page spreads because you just never know what you'll find when you turn over the page. These books are an experience and they beg to be read out loud with children or to have someone sit for hours just studying the pictures.Jim Kay has really done such a fabulous job of bringing the stories to life in a different way, it would have been so easy to base these images on the movies that we're all so familiar with but he's created his own version of the world and the characters that are similar enough to be easily recognised but still completely his own versions.I honestly could have included hundreds of pictures with this review but I've tried to narrow it down to just a few of my favourites.

A kaleidoscopic Colourful Refreshing Look at a Magical World we all know so well !!!!!!!!!!!!
Jim Kay is the best thing to happen to the Harry Potter Series since J.K Rowling herself put pen to paper and introduced us,to Harrys magical world I will tell you why I have the 1st and now the 2nd and preordered the 3rd in his illustrated series its because even if you have, the original book series you will fall in love with Jim Kays take on Harrys World I felt like I was seeing Harrys World, for the first time you can see the brush strokes in the faces of the people he draws and the books are wonderful quality, thick, textured pages and nice large font which makes this series of books accessible to all 8-80 year olds and will engage young people in a world millions of people have already, fallen in love with this in my opinion is partly down to Rowlings wonderful imagery and writing and partly down to Kays imaginitive and fresh take on Characters we all know and love my favourite is harry playing quidditch, look I could go on forever but im going to end on this it is a bargain at £15.00 you will not be disappointed by this kaleidoscope of colour, wonder and Magic

... or follows my bookstagram account will know that I love all things Harry Potter
Anyone who knows me or follows my bookstagram account will know that I love all things Harry Potter. So it will come as no surprise to findthat I simply adore this illustrated edition of Harry Potter and the Chamber of secrets, by J.K. Rowling.I recently published my review of the first book in this series of editions, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, and so there is some overlap here. The book itself is beautifully presented; Jim Kay has wonderfully shaped the style of the book to continue the precedent he set with the first book. In this one, he has really brought the trio of characters – Harry, Ron and Hermione – to life a little more.I particularly loved how Jim Kay captured the Hose-Elf, Dobby. We of course have a clear idea of Dobby from the movie adaptions, but what I liked here was that Jim Kay used J.K.Rowling’s description of his ‘bat-like ear’s to capture the innocence Dobby exudes. He looks adorable, doesn’t he?When I first devoured this book – I was blown away by some of the darker elements that Jim Kay has vividly captured. His illustrations of the ghosts, and the Skele-gro are excellent. They are awe inspiring! Finally, I was really looking forward to seeing how Jim Kay would capture the personality and exuberance of Professor Gilderoy Lockhart. In the films, I think that Kenneth Brannah captures that character’s egocentricity so perfectly, that I was hoping to see the same in the illustrated edition. Alas, to quote Dumbledore, I didn’t feel Jim Kay’s impression was quite right – but I enjoyed it all the same. The new paperback version of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone – Illustrated Edition is out in August. You can pre-order from Bloomsbury and Amazon.

Jim Kay has taken on a mammoth task and has created a thing of great beauty. The art throughout this book is so varied and not in any one style, ranging from charcoal and inks to bright colourful works to gentler water colours. The book uses dark coloured pages to great effect! Some of the pictures are so bursting with detail that you simply have to stop reading and step into the page for a while. The layout of the book is such that the words and illustrations are in page turning synchronicity and you walk as you read your way through J.K Rowling's world longing to visit Diagon Alley once more.Great care and thought has gone into this reimagining, not just the characters but also the buildings and architecture. Every detail has been considered and comes alive on the page.Beautifully bound with a slip case designed to take readers off on a new journey to Hogwarts and all that entails. Jump in the flying Ford Anglia car and let the Weasley boys take you to their lovely yet ramshackle home.If you want to have a look over my shoulder as I flick through this book, take a look at my video on YouTube. Both for people who have read the books and new comers alike.(Amazon promptly delivered this book to me in pristine condition.)

Wonderful Present
This was requested as a present for my 6 year old nephew. I was sceptical as the books seem to old for him but he loves Happy Potter and his parent felt this would be a good way to slowly introduce him to the books. The book is beautiful, but big and heavy (even for an adult) so his father is reading a few pages of this before bed each night and he loves the illustrations. I'm not sure who likes the book more, my nephew or my brother, but extremely well received. I think the idea is that reading it at a slow pace with mean that my nephew can get older before being exposed to the darkness of the later books.
