Very nice and well received by my granddaughter

Brilliant product
After reading some of the negative reviews about the packaging I was surprised at how well protected it was. There was plenty of protection around the box and the case is reasonably tough. The delivery was brilliant arriving 3 days early which I was very happy about. Once you have opened the case you are greeted with a very nice selection of equipment, all the items in perfect condition. In some of the sets that I have seen before all the items have fallen all over the place when I have first opened it, but this was not the case with this set. All the items fit perfectly into there spaces. The equipment is all very nice and very good value for money. All in all the box set is a very good value for money (better than I expected)and I will soon be on the way to becoming a brilliant artist.

Amazing product for students, quite acceptable for pros...
I've bought other product by Royal&Langnickel before, and even this time I'm satisfied of this purchase. The wooden box is really "essential", as is described in title: measures are 15"/35cm x 7"/17,5cm x h 2,5"/6,5cm; the wood has a grey varnish finish, not glossy; the handle is in silver painted plastic; metal locks and hinges work very well; two plastic display cases hold all things. Inside there are many good quality (not excellent, but that's it) products: - a set of 12 lead pencil: from 6B to B, HB, and from H to 5H; - 3 charcoal pencil: soft, medium, - 4 coloured crayon: white, sanguine, sienna, burnt sienna; - 6 graphite pastels: HB, from B to 6B; - 6 charcoal pastels: 2 hard, 2 medium, 2 soft; - 12 coloured pastels: brown ochre, sanguine, sienna, burnt sienna, black, grey (two of each colour); - 4 charcoal sticks long about 5"/12cm; - 3 blending stups: #1, #2, #3; - a metal double sharpner; - a pencil eraser; - a kneaded eraser; - a clear 6"/12cm ruler; - a sandpaper block; - a 12 rough sheets mini sketching pad; - an wooden artist mannequin. All pieces are firmly blocked in their location, i.e. anything's fall when open the box, and pastels are protected with plastic cover while the charcoal sticks are enveloped. Mannequin's hand are a bit out of proportion, but nothing's irreparable. Overall is not so bad for artist/designer that needs a compact travel set for their sketches, whereas is very useful, almost indispensable, for art students of all ages.

Good value introduction to several media
Good value. (I bought the "Premier" sketching set as well in the fancier brown case and I think that was poor value by comparison.) The Essentials set is a handy introduction to several drawing media in one box. Be aware that a one size fits all approach to buying drawing paper won't lead to great results with, say, pastel pencils versus charcoal. The pastel pencils don't sharpen well with the pencil sharpener, a small sharp craft knife works better. Just about "ok quality" case although the factory workers need to learn to glue the brand badge on straight. The carrying handle makes the Essentials set easier to transport than the Premier set.

WORTH EVERY PENNY!!!!
WORTH EVERY PENNY!!!Bought this for my daughter destiny,Originaly it was for her artwork in school but we liked it that much we keep it at home to use on her art homework or just drawing. Its top quality and it's so nicely set out in the box with everything you will ever need.Didnt want it used in school because it could get damaged or people ruining her stuff but at this price I'm gonna buy another one soon ,it was destiny's choice to keep it at home.So it's worth the money and the pencils etc are very proffessional not cheap in anyway the ends don't break off when your sketching so all in its all as it should be.Destiny loves this set!😍

Nothing better for this price
This is money well spent. As a beginner this is all you need. Quality is good especially for this price. I'm doing some fine work and every once in a while i hit a grain of clay. I find that annoying so I decided to buy better pencils for my favorite ones. In Holland every art store sells Derwent and at a price of € 1,35 a piece they must be good right? Well these Derwents contain about 2 to 3 times the amount of grain then these baby's. Put it all in perspective and you got a winner set here. Are there better pencils? No doubt! Are there better pencils at this price point? I seriously doubt it. Good Buy.

Excellent quality as expected from Royal & Langnickel
I purchased it as a gift for a family member to encourage her to pursue a long-last hobby, and as being an artist myself, I found the box set had the perfect medium combination for her to delve into to get her imagination 'juices' flowing. As for the box itself, it's small enough to carry about. It's stylish and compact. The interior is well padded and compartmentalized accordingly... Great gift if I say so myself ;-)

It's a lot smaller than I expected!
I haven't used this yet as it's a Christmas present for my daughter but I was a little disappointed when I opened the box as I didn't expect it to be so small... For the price I'm not over the moon with it if I'm honest!!

Gutes Einsteigerset

Fabulous kit for beginners
This is a fantastic set for beginners (such as myself). The sketch book which is included is a waste of space & money (4 7/8" x 6 1/2", 12 sheets), but aside from that, you get a wide variety of pencils, charcoal, compressed charcoal sticks, and pastel sticks, so that you can start to get a handle on the tools available. You also get 3 different size stumps (used for blending). There is one small kneadable eraser and one drawing eraser (I think it may be referred to by some as a "pearl" eraser). There is a pencil sharpener and a sanding block to get a good sharp point on your pencils (and stumps ?). The 12 graphite pencils range from 6B to 5H. There are 3 charcoal pencils, 1 ea hard, med & soft. 3 different shades brown pastel pencils as well as a white one. 6 sketching sticks (square) ranging from 8B to B and 6 charcoal sticks which I can't quite read the label on to tell you exactly what they are. There are also 12 compressed color sticks. What is super cool (and the reason I focused in on this set to purchase) is there's a little mannequin you can pose to sketch from. There are also 4 sticks of vine charcoal, which WHO KNEW could be so great to sketch with! Little learning experiences like that make a kit worthwhile when you're starting out, even though you may wind up not using some of the tools beyond experimenting with them just enough to decide you don't like it. I wish instead of the stupid little sketch book they had included a stick holder, even though that would have kicked up the price. Update 12/28/15 Those who have commented that the case is shoddy are correct, one of the hinges fell off mine already. Also, the instant you start adding to your toolkit, you've got no place to put the new item, because the case has plastic insets that are molded for the items included and that's it. So if you're buying this kit for the case/organizer, this is not for you. Buy this kit for the variety of tools provided when you don't know exactly which tools you're going to settle on. If you're looking for something to organize your tools, try one or more of the Plano adjustable storage boxes - you can adjust the dividers (within limits) for different configurations of tools (pencils, erasers, ruler, charcoal sticks, etc). They're lightweight, and you can see what you're looking for before you open the box. Amazon carries about a zillion varieties of these, I got 2 of these Plano Connectable Satchel Stowaway. with Handle (Large) In spite of the crappy case, I'm leaving my rating at 5 stars because of the mannequin and the variety of tools.
