Superb for skin, superb cleansing
I usually keep a bar of this by the bath because we have dermatitis, eczema and psoriasis. We really do find that this soap is the best out there for calming skin conditions without drying the skin. I put a bar of this at the sink for hand washing last week. Everyone's hands were starting to suffer from constant hand washing, even using the gentlest liquid soap. Both mine and my daughters were red raw and cracking. This soap is amazing for hand washing, it's reversed the effects of the liquid soap and they're no longer anywhere near as dry. No moisturiser needed (I am not a fan of using hand moisturiser when I'm busy) - I'm not entirely sure that the sticky layer of a moisturiser is a good idea with current hand washing requirements in any case. We also realised just how much better the lather is; it's dense and rich, and it really cleanses the hands thoroughly. You just don't get the same thick cleansing lather from liquid soap. And of course, it smells amazing. I knew it was amongst my favourite bar soaps for a good reason!

Soap is good
Bought this soap to see if it would help me with my scalp condition. I was researching online and it says antibacterial soap can help. So far it feels good. The smell is strong and smells medicated. I like it and it feels nice and clean to me. My kids don’t like the smell. It does a really good lather, so all in all a good wash. Your hair can feel a bit dry from it, so I put loads of conditioner on after and it seems to work. It to early to see if it works for my scalp condition, but will keep using it and see.

Wow, it really smells strongly of coal and tar. I don't know what I was expecting... a metaphor?
Wow, it really smells strongly of coal and tar. I don't know what I was expecting... a metaphor? Like, Lynx (a.k.a. Axe) isn't made from wildcat piss; it smells like cheap chemicals and sweat extracted from sexually frustrated chavs - not actual lynx. This, however, does exactly what it says on the tin. Is this a Northerner joke I'm too colonial to understand? Anyway, my girlfriend refuses to touch me if I've recently washed with this, but I can hardly dock a product for being literally what it says. After 10 months of living together, my she registered her first ever smell complaint with me after I walked out of the bathroom, "Oh, that's awful. Did you flush? Oh no... it was the soap. You just washed your hands didn't you? I wish it was just a fart." On the upside, I will say that I've used it for a good month and it's holding on longer than many bars of soap that would have melted away by now. However, it is developing splits along the top and bottom from where the bar has absorbed too much water, even though I keep it on a soap rack. That's a bit unsightly, so not quite a perfect rating. So yeah... love it or hate it, but there's probably nothing else that does quite what Wright's Traditional Coal Tar Soap does.

Distinctive scent that I love
Love this soap, it has that distinctive scent that takes me back to childhood and been at grandma’s.My nana always used this soap and if I’m honest I wasn’t fan of scent as child but as got older it’s a scent that awakens lots of memories. The soap is also just great quality soap that has antibacterial qualities. The traditional look and smell always makes me think of clean and sterile.I used with all my children when young, great for washing hands after getting muddy and scratched after play in garden and my children now use with their children. Not as easy to get old of as used to be ,find not as popular so great can buy and have delivered to door. Its a small piece of tradition that’s works as good today as ever did.The formula stood test of time as is a soap that hygienically cleans without dry skin and has distinctive scent.Sometimes old traditional products are best .

Long lasting soap
This soap is still going strong after some weeks of use. The coal tar fragrance is not as strong as I remember, but is still oddly reassuring. It is a good shape for holding, if you arthritic, like me, and leaves you with a non sticky or drying, 'clean hands' feeling. Good value for the longevity, and could be grated to make your own laundry soap or cleaning solution.

Good for slumming it
It's hard, lasts for ages and stinks of a mining town- can't imagine what possessed me to buy it

Fresh smell, soft hands.
I like this soap very much. It has a fresh and clean smell, also it doesn't dry your hands out. I have been using this soap for years. But I now have found it hard to come by in my local shops. So, i will be purchasing it from Amazon from now on.

Bought because I heard it is the closest thing to traditional soap. My professor recommended it. They don't use actual coal tar anymore (dangerous and can't be regulated so this is the closest thing). Works great for sensitive skin. Be warned though, it smells like a dentist office punched you in the nose.

Good soap, although I purchased it with hopes the the coal tar content would help with some psoriasis. So far I haven't seen any substantial change, but it's only been a few weeks.
