Casio Unisex Watch Casio Collection AQ-230A-7BMQYES
This watch is one of a series with different cases and dials. I purchased a gold coloured version back in 1996 which finally started to give trouble a few days ago. This appeared to be caused by the sealing ring which had not been changed since new and had allowed dirt to accumulate inside. Despite this the movement was still working perfectly and I later cleaned out the case especially the buttons which were stiff and it now works again. However due to the age and the fact that the case is not metal, it has lost its good looks and at the very reasonable price it is available for on Amazon I decided to get a new one. This time I chose the chrome coloured version with a white dial and black digits which provides a very easy to read face. I very highly recommend this watch in all versions as it is very accurate (within +/-30 seconds a month) and has a separate digital display which can show the time, date and day of week, Alarm, Stopwatch and a dual time which can be set for another time zone if required. It is also very slim and elegant and looks more expensive than it is. The method of operating the watch can be downloaded as a pdf by going to the Casio Watch site ([...]) and selecting Support/Manuals/Timepieces/Watch Manual Archives and entering Module No:1301 in the edit box. New sealing rings are available (at just over £5 including P/P) from Casio Spares department (Tel 020 8208 9567 M-F 9-5). It uses a Silver Oxide Button Cell Type SR920 (1.55v) which is not difficult to purchase and should last about 3 years. The back is easy to remove and the battery is easy to change. The sealing ring can be changed if necessary at the same time. If the movement is accidentally disturbed check that the buttons are still operating the contacts properly.

Functionally the best watch(es) available at any price.
Firstly and vitally, this watch is identical in size, shape and function to the white-faced silver case/strap version AQ-230A-7DMQ and the gold-effect AQ-230GA-9DMQYES although this one is described as "small". The strap is also the same length as those of the other two, although it is described as "ladie's". I am male with a not too big wrist and it fits me fine. The strap has an adjustable buckle, so there's no need to mess with links. Functionally these watches are in my opinion almost perfect. You get time analogue & digital, perpetual date, once in 24hr alarm, hourly alarm (both can be on or off), 1/100th second stopwatch and a second "dual" time function, useful for your home time zone when you're abroad. Setting is simple. Setting the analogue time is slow, you press the button on the right and the hands turn quickly, but not very quickly. I have one for UK winter time (black face), one for UK summer time/European winter time (silver) and one for European summer time (gold), so I don't have to reset the analogues. In my opinion Casio should offer a top-grade version of this watch, with a titanium case/strap, sapphire lens, higher contrast LCD and solar power. I would still buy 3 if they were ten times the price of these babies.

Good watch
I read the reviews before purchasing this watch and was a little worried bout setting up the day / date / month. However I placed the order. The watch arrived within the times stated by the carrier - a good start. The digital time was set and running, the date needed adjustment - easy, no problems, the analogue time took a little sorting until realising a small pointer was needed to activate the adjuster button. The watch itself is good, light and unobtrusive, not a heavy "dinner plate" on your wrist. The analogue numerals are clear and easily read, even at night and without glasses. The digital display is clear. The strap was easily adjusted to suit my wrist. The watch is worn all the time and in all conditions - except when bathing. It appears to be shock proof and rain proof. So far it is keeping good time, and the day / date changes "Instantly" at midnight. Not like my old watch which took a good two hours to grind through the process. All in all a good item which is very reasonably priced for day to day wear.

Very attractive and still one of the best years after it's release
I had one of these watches back in nineteen hundred and frozen to death and since then have had many different watches going up in value to nearly £300 spent on my last one. I thought that watch would see me out but in fact it lasted just under 8 years. So why take a retrograde step and get on of these watches again after all this time. 1. Cost - this is a really good value-for-money watch. My last one lasted nearly 6 years and only failed due to my harsh treatment. I divided the cost of each of my watches by the number of months they were working and this watch worked out nearly 3 times more cost effective than any other watch owned (other than my Grandad's watch that is still working since the 1940's) 2. Looks - this is a very smart watch with an easy to read dial and, for a wrinkly like me who can never remember the date, has the ability to show date, digital time, stopwatch, alarm or second time zone in the digital section at the bottom of the face. 3. Clarity and ease of use - The face is so clear that one simple glance (even with my old eyes) means the time and date are immediately to hand. As to the setting up of the watch, 15 seconds, yes that's all, 15 seconds and I understood from the notes included with the watch how to set it up. 30 seconds later, I had my alarm, the date, current time etc input and the watch was on my wrist. 4. Wristband - A very easy to adjust wrist band, and by that I don't mean in large steps. This wristband is almost infinitely adjustable so the user can get the most comfortable fit. OK, so why 4 stars and not 5? - I would have liked to give it 4.5 stars, taking off half a star as it has no backlight (which I knew from other's reviews before I bought it)

Solid watch
Got exactly what I asked for. The watch in itself I like, it’s durable, comfortable and just a good affordable watch. I do however wish you could change the seconds on the digital watch

Simply a classic
This is an excellent little watch. There are, however, a couple of points a purchaser might need to be aware of. 1. There is no back light, although I find that silver hands against a black face o.k. even in dim light. 2. Even at its maximum, the strap measures only about 8 1/2 inches, or 21 1/2 cm. Since you are advised to have some slack in the strap, I would suggest that a wrist circumference of 8 inches is about as far as you can go. Otherwise, it's all good. I've looked at the two and three star reviews, and would like to make the following points/observations. Strap adjustment is straight forward. First, note the position of the clasp relative to the links. Release the clasp as indicated by a small arrow, using a small screwdriver or nail file if needed. Reposition relative to the links, and click shut. Properly closed, the strap seems secure enough to me. Anything likely to cause it to open would be difficult to ignore. Setting the analogue time - the minute hand advances every 20 seconds, when the digital time is at 0,20 and 40 seconds. The button to adjust the analogue time is shielded at the front and sides. One brief push advances the time by 20 seconds, a sustained push sweeps the hands smoothly and quickly. Synchronising the analogue and digital times is simple. Set the digital time, following the supplied instructions, then set the analogue time slightly behind it. As soon as the digital time passes a convenient point,e.g. 5 or 10 minutes, advance the hand with single pushes to that point. If the digital time has not gone past 20 seconds, job done. If it has, give it one more nudge. The watch has several other functions - date, alarm, stopwatch as specified. I have had this watch for several months now, and am as pleased with it now as I was at first. Highly recommended to anyone who wants a combination watch.

A perennial favourite
This is the third watch of this particular model that I have owned, the other two giving good service until succumbing to normal wear and tear. I like watches with hands, but I don't like the date function on the analogue-only versions, so this watch with its digital display which I keep permanently displaying month, date and day of the week is ideal for me. The digital display does not interfere with the readability of the analogue display as it does on many dual display watches and I think the overall look of the watch is classy. The strap alone is worth the total cost of the watch, and I find it very easy to adjust its length. If I was being really picky I would say that I would have preferred the watch to have a seconds hand and to be able to handle leap years automatically, but its other virtues easily outweigh these minor deficiencies.
