Is this a water based product?

On the Mequiars bottle it says: contains petroleum distillates. May cause eye and skin irritation. Keep away from heat and flame. I have use this product for years and have had no problems. I wear gloves and or use and applicator to apply. I bought it on Amazon cause I could not find it in local retail stores anymore. Previouse bottles I bought over the years said the same things I have outlined here.

How long do I have to wait for it to dry to prevent sling?

I haven't had any tire sling issues and sometimes I apply this stuff 10 minutes before I drive out. I'm not sure if this will help, but I do not apply a lot of the gel on an applicator. I keep the bottle upside down and rub it around the applicator. Gently squeeze the bottle to release little by little. And just keep using more as needed to get that glossy shine. I've had this product for 6 months.

How can I be sure it’s not expired? Shelf life was a problem once.

Not sure if this product has an expiration date. However, I've had the same bottle in my truck for 2 years now and the product still looks and works the same. It's going to take considerably longer than 2 years to make a difference. This is pretty rare coming from a distributor. It's the same sloppy pancake syrup today as it was 2 years ago.
