Another complex, beautifully filmed story of the evolution (de-evolution?) of a possible future. Both exciting as an adventure story, uplifting as a 'stand by your principals' character story, and intriguing as a "who is the real animal here?" story. How far would you go to preserve your tribe? Andy Serkis is once again amazing as Caesar, trying to lead his tribe in the way of peace and harmony, but falling into hatred and revenge. Woody Harrelson's character is a bit too broad of a classic psychopathic leader who will stop at nothing. The rendering of the motion capture on the apes is pretty astonishing, to the point that you have a tendency to forget about it. Excellent Blu-ray transfer, crisp picture and sound. It's so lovely, I'm sorry I didn't spend a few extra bucks for the 4K version. Highly recommended.

Despite having "War" in it's title, there isn't a battle until the third act, which you could expect for any movie, but was expecting more, war, in War for the Planet of the Apes. Besides that nitpick, great film. Picks up soon after Dawn, and is an epic conculsion to this trilogy of films. Great acting, tense moments, tearjerking scenes. What else could you ask for? As always great CGI, feel like it doesn't needed to be said about these movies. The best CGI in Hollywood.

"War for the Planet of the Apes" begins two years after the beginning of the war in "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes." The military, summoned at the end of the previous film, are now battling the apes while trying to locate the apes' hidden city. Though Caesar (played by Andy Serkis) desires peace, having killed Koba (the ape who began the war), he must go after the Colonel (played by Woody Harrelson) who, having discovered the ape's location, killed Caesar's wife and eldest son. Meanwhile, Caesar tells the apes to abandon their city and cross the desert to find a new haven. From there, the story examines the last significant military holdout of the humans and the evolving society of the apes. The film further reveals that the virus which originally gave the apes their intelligence has mutated and is now robbing humans of their speech and intelligence, turning them into the primitive humans who appeared in the first two films of the original series. This film features further references to the original film series. Caesar's youngest son is named Cornelius, a reference to the character played by Roddy McDowall in the original films. The apes adopt a mute human girl, who they name Nova, after the character played by Linda Harrison in the first two films. Additionally, the human work camp is called an Alpha-Omega camp, which recalls the ultimate nuclear weapon in "Beneath the Planet of the Apes" (1970). Though this film serves as the climax to the events that began in "Rise of the Planet of the Apes," the story and the world-building are good enough that further sequels could be developed with the right story. Director Matt Reeves said on 11 October 2016 that he had ideas for continuing the story to build toward the world of the original 1968 film.

This review is solely for the quality of the disc received and not for the movie quality itself. The disc played perfectly, no freezing, skipping or scratches. The case was undamaged in shipping. I've bought alot of movies and series from Amazon and have had issues with the DVDs or Blu-rays freezing, skipping or won't play in general. Thankfully this was not the case for this particular listing / seller. Highly recommend

Thoroughly enjoyed this one (as well as the previous two movies). This one ties up the prequel trilogy in good fashion (with Caesar). (Although you can watch all three NOT in order and enjoy each one independently.) The one coming to the theaters Fri (Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes) seems to be starting a re-boot of sorts. And although it will be related to this one and the previous two, it will follow a bit of a different storyline.

Somewhat surprised that packaging not in English. Thankfully, DVD is in English otherwise son would have been very disappointed.
