INTEX Krystal Clear QS1200 Saltwater Swimming Pool Chlorine System

Excellent saltwater chlorinator – worth every penny! I’ve been using this Intex saltwater system for several weeks now, and I couldn’t be happier. It has kept my pool crystal clear with very little effort. Once I added the correct amount of salt and set the timer, it has been producing chlorine consistently without any issues. The installation was straightforward, and it works perfectly with my Intex sand filter. I love not having to constantly add chlorine or deal with the strong chemical smell that comes with traditional chlorine pools. The water feels much softer on the skin and eyes. Maintenance has been minimal, and the control panel is easy to use. For anyone with an above-ground pool looking for an affordable and reliable saltwater system, I highly recommend this unit. It has made pool care so much easier and has been one of the best upgrades I’ve made. After reading all the reviews about this item, I was hesitant to purchase it. So many said they had trouble with it. We installed it and only put in about 2/3 of the salt recommended, then over several days slowly added salt. Not sure if that made a difference, but we’ve had no issues at all and our water is crystal clear! Our pool is 18 x 9 and we run the pump for 8 hours a day and the salt chlorinator for 6. It comes on an hour after the pump.

I installed this saltwater system on my above-ground pool, and it has been a great addition. Setup was straightforward, and the instructions were easy to follow. Once I added the correct amount of salt and let the system run, it started producing chlorine without any issues. I really like the built-in timer because I can set it and not have to think about it every day. The self-cleaning feature is another nice touch since it helps reduce maintenance and keeps the system running efficiently. Since switching to saltwater, the pool water feels softer, and I’ve spent much less time manually adding chlorine. Overall, this system has made pool maintenance much easier. I am so done with this system. I was tired of always having to deal with the chlorine in the Florida sun. I would have to pretty much shock my pool nearly every day and the water would still turn green. I finally decided to install the saltwater system and I was delighted with the clear and beautiful water! I maintained the salt level at about 3200 (which was the recommended amount) and after about 5-6 months, my unit started giving a low-salt error code. I then upped the salt level to 3400 (which was still in the correct operating range). Still read low salt. Note: the system WILL NOT generate chlorine while there is an error code. I googled it and figured how to remove and clean everything. When I took the unit apart, I discovered that the salt was caked everywhere. Cleaned it up, still didn't work. I bought another one. The same thing happened. Then, after some serious research, I discovered that the recommended salt levels are really high and that the unit often reads low salt when it is actually high! So, you think it's low and add more until it damages everything! I emptied my pool, bought a new unit and maintained the salt at about 2700. Again, beautiful water for barely six months. Then, bam! Low salt error code again. I took everything apart. No corrosion, no salt build-up. Cleaned everything, still doesn't work. At this point, I have to assume that these units only last for six months, regardless of how well you care for them. It's time for me to decide if I should buy another type of saltwater system or spend $120 every six months. BTW, the first unit was about $89. The price is going up!!!! UPDATE 11/24/2020: The unit I purchased in April of this year is now doing the exact same thing. They all supposedly had two-year warranties. This would have meant that the last three units I purchased would still be under warranty. I started trying to communicate with intex in April. I was unable to reach someone by phone and ended up speaking with someone through their messaging system. It took days or even weeks for them to respond. Finally, after I provided all the information they requested (model numbers, purchase info, etc), they responded saying that I had to call them. I spent months trying to get someone on the phone. Literally holding for hours and then being disconnected. I finally got through to them today. They said that the warranty is only 1 year for the plates that I need. Also, they will not honor the warranty for any of the units, except the last one I purchased. Even the one before that, which was only six months old when I first contacted them. They claim that I never spoke to them by phone, so it's my problem. I have all of the messages going back to April, showing that I was unable to reach them by phone and asking if someone could contact me or I could resolve it through email, etc. I asked to talk to a manager to see if they could at least make an exception, because it was clear that the unit stopped working within six months and they had it on record. The associate was rude and insisted that there was nobody above her that could help me. At this point, my only option is to replace the plates in the most recent one under the warranty and hope it lasts for a while. After that, I may have to consider going back to chlorine or buying a very expensive saltwater system. I'm out nearly $700 over the course of four years with these intex ones.

Best purchase for my pool ever. So easy to use. Keeps my pool crystal clear. No worry about algae or chlorine levels. Water is perfect. Perfect for our pool. Before and after photos are 3 days apart.

Ok so this will be a long post but I want to give you full details. We put our pool up the first week of June and started out doing the typical chlorine chemicals. They are just so bad on my and my daughters skin so I began looking into the Intex Salt Water Generators. I struggled for 2 weeks on if I should purchase it or not because the reviews are so mixed. Truly 50/50 On liking and disliking the product. So I decided to give it a try especially since Amazon would allow me to return it for 30 days. Before it arrived I read as much as I could about the system and it’s pros and cons. As well as what other people had learned in their set up process. The first thing I should say is we have an above ground Intex pool 15’ round 42” deep. We bought it at academy sports. It came with the standard 750/1200 gallon per hour filter. Then when the SWG arrived I read the instruction booklet from start to finish. The first mistake it seems people make is they add salt to their pool and turn the Intex SWG on immediately. DONT DO THAT. One thing I can say to not follow the book on is how much salt to add to your pool. The book says way too much. I started out adding a bag and a half of salt which is roughly 60lbs. We let the pump circulate the water with added salt for 24 hours before turning the SWG on. The next day we turned on the SWG and it ran perfectly fine no problem. Day 3 it ran again no problem. I took a sample of water to our local pool store and they ran the water test. Everything looked good except he said my salt level was only 2800 PPM. That I needed to add more salt. So, I went home and added the other 20 lbs of salt and let the pool circulate it overnight and turned my SWG. Within just a few minutes it started shutting down because of “High Salt” alarm. I took another sample of water by the pool store the next day and the PPM has gone up to 3200 which is really a great number to be at in regards to other salt systems. However the Intex SWG kept giving me a “high salt” alarm and shutting down. It took me a couple days of doing 15-20% water changes to get the PPM back below 3000 and then the system started working again. We’ve had no problems since. It seems to me that the Intex SWG system is not made to really function at the 3200PPM and higher levels. Yes I know that the pool stores tell you that 3000-3400 PPM is like the best range for producing chlorine but in my experience the Intex system just cannot function. I have kept my PPM around 2800 and the system has not given us a high salt alarm since. I’ve onky added salt one time and that was after several days of down pour rain and I knew the water had to have a much lower salt PPM from the rain. So I just very slowly added salt over a couple of days. No more than about 3-4 cups full a day. Again my PPM was back to 2800 and it’s been working fine. From what I’ve read online about other salt systems and just the whole science behind converting salt water to chlorine is that as long as you have a PPM of at least 2400 then your SWG will produce chlorine. Of course the higher you can get that PPM without going over 3400 the faster and easier it is for your SWG to produce the chlorine. So you may try with your system to go beyond the 2800 PPM. If you do let me know how it works out. I’m sure there will be several folks who disagree but this has worked for us and we’ve loved it ever since we got the levels figured out. We have beautiful water and it’s been so much better for our skin. Best of Luck!!!

***original review from April 2018*** I had the last generation salt system on my pool and got a season out of it before it stopped working. Intex sent me a new one but I bought this one because I couldn't wait two weeks for it to arrive. When this one dies I have a backup while i'm waiting for a replacement. I bought this well aware I will be getting 1-2 seasons max out of this. I have an 18' round steel above ground pool and this works great. I keep it on three hours a day and have no issues getting sufficient chlorine in my pool. It's been running for about 45 days so far and no issues. It has a three year warranty and their customer service is good overall. Replacements take a couple weeks to arrive so keep it in mind when your unit craps out. Even thought the life span is so short I still think it's worth not having to deal with chlorine in my pool. No smelly skin, no chemical balancing issues, no green pool. Saltwater is the BEST. If you are like me and installing this on a regular non intex pool they make this adapter https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B012BUM5V8/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1 This way you dont need to make something from PVC. One end screws onto the salt system and your pool hoses slide over the other end and get clamped down. No leaks at all. I'm going to update this review at the end of this season or if the unit dies before then. **October 2018 Update** I just closed my pool down yesterday. As I was closing it down I thought I would record a video with my opinions. Feel free to watch it or just read below. The generator functioned as intended the entire season. It kept my 18" above ground non Intex pool crystal clear all year. The only thing I added to my pool was to bring the hardness level up a bit and added a bit of salt when I had to drain the pool because of the rain. Besides that I put nothing else in my pool from April to October. It ran for four hours a day and kept everything beautiful. I'm hoping I get a lot more use from it next year when it's opened again but we shall see. For $129 will keep buying these even if they only last a year, because it saves from having to buy chlorine and the frustration of having to add it and keep everything balanced. Highly recommended for an above ground pool Intex or not. **update April 2019** Opened my pool April 2019. Plugged this in and it fired right up. I installed a new liner so I filled with fresh water, put in the salt to about 2,800 and balanced the water. So far the generator fired right back up and is sanitizing my water. I will update the review again if the unit dies or makes it this year***

This exceeded my expectations based on a couple of mixed reviews. Not sure what negative reviews are about or if they didn’t follow instructions or directions correctly. I haven’t had to do anything to my above ground 20’ pool for over 1 month except for add stabilizer twice and that has been about 2-3 lbs but has also rained a bit during this time as I am in Florida. It’s still crystal clear and feels great, have been using for 2 months now. As some noted, pour the required amount of salt in without this filter uninstalled, let it circulate for 24 hours, then hook this up to the other filter and run on Boost for the required time (mine was 80 hours). This filter has been a game changer so far even in the FL heat 10/10

J’utilise ce système depuis plus de vingt ans et je n’ai qu’une chose à dire, il est parfait pour l’entretient de votre piscine vous aurez toujours une très bonne qualité d’eau sans vous casser la tête, toujours une chlorination selon les normes. Suivez bien les instructions avant l’installation assurez vous d’avoir une eau parfaite aux départs surtout le PH recommandé et la quantité de sel recommandé pour votre volume d’eau de la piscine et installer votre intex selon les instructions et par la suite Intex s’occupe de maintenir votre piscine dans les normes.

DO NOT BUY Easy to set up but only lasted 1 summer. Overpriced. Waste of money. Looks like moisture is inside the plug some how. The dot that tells you if there is power has moisture in it. Not water friendly even though it's literally supposed to be by a pool.

OK filter.Returned the first one missing pieces had no problem with seller they sent us another one, problem is it only comes with one hose. Filter is used 2 months a year only I live in canada and I have a summer wave pool.
