Do the landing gears go up?

No, the landing gears are fixed. However, by simply not attaching them, they would give the appearance of being retracted.

Is it ready out of the box?

A few items require to be "clicked" into place, but, yes, it's ready to go. A beautiful model, you won't be disappointed.
