has anyone confirmed the wattage with their 1a power supply with a kill-a-watt type device?

Mine came with a 2 amp power supply. The sticker on the back of the light says it pulls 8 watts which equates to .66 amps. So even a one amp supply should be fine.

I'm going to try to use these with a poe splitter. what size is the ac adapter plug going into the unit?

You need to check the wavelength of the IR LEDs before you buy these lights. If they aren’t the same as your camera they won’t work at all. If they are the same , then you can either buy these Illuminators in wide angle which will light up a wider area but not as much distance, or a spot illuminated which will give you the needed distance.

Where can I get the adapter and why sell it without one?

It does come with it. It’s the 12v output power adapter that goes into your wall.
