5 Squirrels and 2 Rats over 2 weeks!
Bought this for backyard squirrels. In 2 weeks, it's caught all 5 of them. Since I wasn't sure how many we had, I kept putting it out. I used cat food and occasionally a chunk of banana. Eventually, there were no more squirrels, but now there's a RAT in there almost every morning. Didn't even realize we had them. So, over 2 weeks, it's caught 7 critters from our backyard. Amazing! At first, I wasn't sure how to set it but soon figured it out. Now it works like a charm.

Heavy duty and effective
This trap works much better than other smaller and less stout ones. We caught several medium sized squirrels and rats with this trap and even though the animals were very active, the traps held and were not damaged before we "rehomed" the animals.

Handy Little Trap - a couple flaws
The media could not be loaded. I was grateful to be able to get this humane trap overnighted to use to trap an abandoned 8 week old kitten that was being evasive. I put a piece of the cardboard box it came in the bottom, with a trail of wet food to lure her in, and a tiny bowl of food on the far side of the trap-release plate, and had her in 5 minutes. The trap comes fully assembled, and is simple to set up. It effectively worked for a tiny, light, kitten. My only complaints involve the door itself:• the release tab can with the force of trapping, slip into the trap, rather than catch on the roof as it is meant to, meaning you have to put your finger into a very small opening with a frightened, desperate animal in order to release it. A Phillips head screwdriver might help as it is, but it should be redesigned a smidge longer by the manufacturer.• a slightly larger animal could potentially be injured by the force of the dropping trap door. It needs to be softened somehow to avoid tail tips being chopped off.• the door, when set open, simply sits too low. The animal may have to duck to get in. No way to adjust this on your own, better hope the critter is very hungry.***Please note this is a VERY SMALL trap, for animals the size of kittens and squirrels - other reviewers have complained, but the measurements are clearly described in the listing and are accurate.

Not A Reliable Product
At the door end the rod isn't bent enough to adequately engage the very small projection on the back of the door. The door has a tendency to want to tilt slightly to the left, which causes it to bind in the slide grooves. You never know if it’s going to close properly or not. We have gone out many times thinking we had a chipmunk, but the food was gone and so was the chipmunk. We have stopped using it because we are feeding the chipmunk community with no results. Would not recommend this product.

Similar to an earlier version
Trapping feral kitties who set up their tiny trio on my porch for TNR. Set up two traps for the mother daughter duo. As the stray, meaning dumped male, Sylvester, asked to come in the house to the kennel rather than walk into the carrier. He’s had a successful vet appointment. For the traps, set two up next to each other. The cats are use to me calling them for food. Upon working in their habits since November to make trapping easy.Today’s the day. Cat walked in this trap. Toward the wild caught sardines. Trap didn’t close. Cat walked out. As though she suspected something. Despite the traps being outside tied open for a month until we could get an appointment.Trap hack for quick release, add Vaseline to the hinge when set. Experienced trapper taught me this to help.Compared to the older version this trap is a little harder to close leaning on the floor panel. Upon setting have tested the trap a few times. Compared to the other that’s not been used yet this one requires more weight.Added wild caught tuna to the older trap. It closed easy peasy. Easily nabs the little lady. She feels so safe on the porch from working on grooming the cats for this event she didn’t wince when it shut. Kept enjoying her tuna. Meaning less stress for her.She didn’t freak when I walked up to cover her with a baby sheet. The only thing that the trap, old or new, doesn’t have is a clip to hold the gate closed. A friend lent me a trap that has a clip.Used a piece of wire to tie it shut. Since Tschuss tried to slip out. Her name means goodbye in German. The kitties aren’t very hefty despite eating well this winter. This one kitty probably weighs about eightish pounds and is less than a year. Maybe nine months.Tschuss was on the panel that should have helped shut the trap.Added more Vaseline and hoping this new trap works for kitty number two by tomorrow night for their Thursday appointment.Happy with the trap configuration. Like that the back opens and has a wire clip to create a sturdy back end. Easy to set.Only issue is the trap requires a little extra pressure to close. Hoping this next kitty will full court pressure the panel to help the cage close.Good deal. Should work long term when nabbing other kitties when they show up for TNR.

Quality control questionable
I purchased 2 of these. One works well. The other does not. It won't stay set because two separate parts on it were not manufactured correctly. The tripping arm where the two pieces press together is bent at an angle so it does not hold, and instead always slips off. I can possibly bend this to the correct angle myself but there's another major defect. On this one the end of the trip rod that holds the door up was cut too short and cannot hold up the door. I can't think of any fix for this so this 2nd cage is worthless. If they tested these before shipping they wouldn't have this problem. Not really worth my time to box up and return the one. Very disappointing.
