Very nice blade. I wanted to out down my safety razor and try something different. I was surprised for the price it's really good. Not fake. This is a real razor. The scales are made of low quality materials but you can't really argue with the price being so low. It's very sharp. The finish on the blade is not quite mirror but it looks very shiny with no obvious machinng marks. I honed my blade on a 3000/8000 grit stone and used some cerium oxide (glass polish powder) to lap the blade over a scrap piece of leather. I managed to shave my entire face without nics. I did have some razor burn that could be solved with more lapping. I'm gonna try a green polish bar. Overall a great purchase. Much nicer feeling skin vs my safety razor. A good beginner tool to try before deciding to invest in better razors.

Good looking razor. Came facial hair cutting ready right out of the package. It's definitely a heavier/beefier razor than I'm used to. I had been using disposable blade straight razors for some time now. And those alone aren't created equal. But this is a Carbon steel blade and I can vouch that those are easier to maintain shape, and sharpness than stainless steel.

I had to return the first one because the blade had a rotation relative to the shank and when closing, it was touching one side of the scales. The second one I got also has a little twist to it which is unfortunate, because the carbon steel definitely seems to be far superior to stainless steel or surgical steel. It definitely can hold an edge. As far as shave ready, I don't know who is deluded enough to believe that sellers are into truth. The funny thing is, the blade did have a polish to it, so someone decided to do the finishing stone and just make the edge reflective but ultra dull. Having had now two shavers not quite right, I am hesitant to order a third as it seems they have huge issues with quality assurance. Too bad, because the metal does seem great. Edited: I increased the rating because I decided to re-hone it one more time and after several back and forths going from 320 grit to 1000 to 12K then white and green compounds, got the blade nice and sharp for a decent shave. If you are willing to put in the work then this could be enjoyable.

If you think you can purchase this and start shaving think again. This is not shave-ready. I've been shaving with straight razors for several years and am very comfortable and would not recommend this as a starter blade because it isn't ready to rock out of the box, or at least the two I got were not. The scales are absolutely the worst cheap flimsy unergonomic you can find. BUT they are wonderful blades to test honing techniques on. After I hone and strop this with a Shapton 5k and then Nakayama JNAT it because a very nice sharp blade.

Pleasantly surprised. Well-made razor. The blade is precisely ground and finished nicely. The geometry was spot-on, straight and no warping or wobbling when checked on a perfectly flat surface. It was sharp enough to cut hairs, but, nowhere near shave-ready and needed to honed. The steel was quite hard, and a #55 test file skated while a #60 just started to bite it. It only took a few minutes of honing with an 8k stone and a thorough stropping to make it shave comfortably. The scales are a bit slippery and could be thinner, but, the blade sits centered and is well-pinned. I have been shaving with straight razors for nearly 50 years and I have prepared and used hundreds of razors. My experiences with Chinese razors as a rule have been rather dissappointing, but, this one was a pleasant surprise. I may have to give a few more of them a try as they have clearly upped their game if this is a fair representation of what they can produce at a given price point these days.

The reputation of gold dollar isn't good but I was hoping outhone the port craftsmanship. I couldn't. As I was inspecting the blade upon receipt the edge near the heel was pretty much destroyed and the spine had a band in it. Meaning it was in unhoneable. Especially if you are new to straight razors please just save yourself the time and money. Maybe even a higher end gold dollar would be more suit you but most professional razor sharpeners won't except gold dollar razors due to the bends in spines ect. The best option is to save your cash and go for a quality blade I promise you won't regret it.
