Cougar GXS650 80-Plus Gold Premium Performance Compact Power Supply (PSU) (650 Watt)

With computer systems actually needing smaller PSU's these days with how efficient the main CPU's and GPU's are becoming I knew I just wanted high efficiency with clean power, and these are even better if you don't go with too big of a PSU and stay with the right size. My whole system only pulls about 300w max so this is a great choice for the cost with it's Gold efficiency and good reviews by actual pro testers. It also is nice and small and is perfect for my mATX build.Now, this is NOT semi-modular at all, only this seller claims this, everywhere else it is very clear. EVERY cable is part of the main bunch and while it's easy to hide the cabling away I really wanted the least amount of extra cabling since I'm not using any drives that need them, just on board NVMe SSD's... So I do feel a bit duped as that was a major factor in buying this but now I don't want to send it back either, so beware!Also, has a cheap sleeve bearing instead of ball bearing fan that will likely fail in a few years, so that's why it only has 3 year warranty, keep that in mind also, so between the lie about modularity and only a sleeve bearing fan takes a star off, but still a great product for the money.

EDIT BIG THING: Title advertises semi modular psu but isn’t modular at all so beware! This is a tier 3 power supply and it’s pretty good overall. However, they advertise a super quiet 140mm fan and that’s far from the truth. I’ve honestly had bronze power supplies for 20$ that were quieter than this thing. I’m kinda a quiet freak though so not everybody may agree with me but in my system it’s definantly the loudest thing in it. So I honestly feel like the fan curve is a huge lie and it’s almost sad that with the size of the fan and the advertised low rpm that it’s that loud. If you’re looking for a good built budget gold power supply however this is probably the best I’ve seen for the price. I do indeed like how small it is and it does have nice build quality. The only con I have for the quality is that they put silver screws in the box instead of black and once again all the bronze budget psu I’ve had all came with black so idk what cougar is doing.

After using this in a build for a few months, the Cougar GX-S 550W has been treating us very well. We haven't encountered any weird issues with power, and it had plugs to power >2x4-pin PCIE, >5 SATA devices, >2molex->SATA converters, + all the necessary plugs like 4-pin CPU and 24-pin motherboard. Cannot go wrong with this PSU.From the pictures, I did know when I was ordering that this was absolutely not a semi-modular power supply. However, it was also extremely well priced even for a non-modular PSU. I'll dock a star for an incorrect title, but I would like to emphasize that the PSU has been solid so far.

It isn't quiet, it isn't modular. It feels cheap, but unlike every other power supply in this price range, it gets awfully close to meeting it's *advertised output*. I ran this PSU for several days in my rendering rig, maxing 2x1080ti cards (stock settings) for almost a week straight without an issue. Power usage was around 650W and I only had a single power fault when I hit around 700W. Note that my power usage numbers is the actual usage, not what kill-a-watt reports (which, on that note, is around 850-900W...)

I had my misgivings when I ordered this, but so far it's been a great power supply! It's so quiet you can hardly know it was on!

Carries the load, I have 8 hard drives, amd fx 8 core processor and sli- dual Nvidia 1070's, Liquid cooler, and multiple external esata and sata ports.

Just built a pc and this is powering it. Cables are straight forward and plenty of accessories.

Excellent PSU for the price. Very reliable. Has been put through alot of stress and is still performing with no issues. Would recommend to any one looking for a great psu at this price range.
